Happy for people who have wanted this. It's frustrating to want a sequel and then the game is unsuccessful so it never comes (dark messiah of might and magic, bulletstorm)

I would be super surprised if there's not eventually. I'm sure it has stuff to do with console slot allocations or some such nonsense.

Let me check... I put in $60, and this is what I saw after I backed it:
For the people worried about the Kickstarter's success/"everyone who wants the game will pledge and there'll be no market": you're certainly overrating the power of E3 announcements and heavily underrating marketing and such. Most people from Shenmue's target demographics - old Dreamcast faithful, people who heard about Shenmue throughout their entire lives, new-comers, etc. - will be reached through marketing.
The Kickstarter success is good because it means having a good financial backing + it diminishes the risks of an investment. Kind of like getting credit on a bank when you have $1,000 on your account compared to when you have x1000 of that.
It's also likely that this Kickstarter being a major success will mean more resources being put not only on polishing the game but also on marketing so it can be the success it deserves. That's why I'm glad to see this turning up as big as it is.

Yeah, so happy this is getting done, getting that 2 million in less than 24 hrs...I just hope if they get enough that they also remaster the first two for the PS4/PC to get people prepped for the third. I'm sure there's lots of folks who haven't played these games yet and are quite curious with all the hype and support pouring in on S3 atm.I can't believe it! I do hope Sega will allow production assets from DC/XB Shenmue III from 2001-2003 to be used or disclosed. (would make one hell of a cool backer reward!)

Now I've never played Shenmue but I've followed bits here and there plus interviews with Yu and I know how dear the games are in the fans hearts
