Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Gameplay (E3 2015)

Maybe I just don't understand it enough. But wasn't this driving all linear?
It looked like it was totally scripted and you had to eventually choose those roads, maybe even immediately.
I don't think you could stealth drive to the destination. But everyone is coming to the conclusion you can drive anywhere. Is the game at the showfloor to play?
So someone could take a different road?
Graphics wise it looked like it is dialled back more especially since the reveal which of course looked incredible. It more and more looks like the graphics are more in line with all the other games (which was expected).

Well the game is undoubtedly going to have some linear sections, which I personally have no problem with.

It's not an open world game if that's what you mean. It's just not always as strictly linear as...most linear games are lol, as showcased by both gameplay reveals thus far.

Loved it all, but one thing that I particularly enjoyed a lot was Drake's animations while shooting. Really liked the imperfections of it and how he reacted when he was hit while aiming/shooting.

ND sure knows how to make their characters feel like we're playing an actual person.

This thing looked amazing.

I did notice some frame rate drop here and there?

Looked fantastic, can't wait for it either way.

I noticed a drop here and there as well as what seemed to be a degradation in Nathan's character model detail at one point during the inital gun fight segment.

An easy game to feel great about pre-ordering safely though.

When they view the city from above in the beginning of the demo, there are even tiny little cars driving in the streets way in the distance... damn this game man....

Its not meh.It looks great and probably feels great ,but nothing stood out as unexpected is what I am saying.

Grappling hook looks straight out of TR btw ,but lets NOT go down that(ultimately opinion based) rabbit hole.

I think Horizon was far more impressive and interesting than UC4.That boss battle with the dino-robot!

The thing about Uncharted is the they can't show off the SUPERNATURAL ELEMENT .

They also have to try to make it somewhat believable and grounded in reality.

What do you want Nathan Drake to do , call in supplies from Mother Base? Use Sci-fi Weapons?

On a more serious note. I haven't seen anything in TR that topped Uncharted 2's setpieces and we are only having a small taste of whats to come.

I was pretty underwhelmed by what was shown TBH. I'm sure the end product will look and play fantastic but the demo was a snooze fest.

Who the fuck is that? That doesn't look like Elena at all. Why is Naughty Dog so cavalier with their faces? You can't just go completely redesigning every character just because you've got new technology to work with. The Uncharted characters all had recognisable faces throughout the three PS3 games, now everyone's been completely changed. I honestly thought that was a screen from the Hayden Panettiere game at first.

EDIT -

Who this fuck is this? There's zero facial similarity with OG Sully there.

Its open in which 'Route' you choose but all roads lead to Rome(Destination).

They said in the interview they choose not to use waypoints because if you noticed from the Demo. You can see the tower from the Horizon during many parts of the demo so you'll naturally know where to go.

What would an open world Uncharted accomplish? Going around asking local for clues? Missions?

I don't see the point. You can have more diverse maps without it being open world. I'll argue that it'll hinder the pacing in the game with pointless exploration. You can place hidden items yes, but Assassin's Creed people complain about pointless collectables scattered everywhere with little purpose.

Treasures in Uncharted is mainly for achievements and cheats. Making an open world Uncharted for that is a waste of resources.

Looks great, though not pleased about bullet sponge baddies returning. Was hoping they'd balance that a bit from UC3

Edit,i also don't think it's open world, but a well choreographed stage that is designed to look open world, but you still take generally the same path to the end.

Just what exactly were you expecting ? I am legitimately curious, if this demo doesn't do anything for you. Nothing will.

People need to listen to the Neil Druckmann interview though, they said they made a mistake showing too much in Uncharted 3 and they don't plan to repeat it.

On a technical level it looks incredible. I just hope they have improved the shooting mechanics. I played through previous three and shooting was always bugging me. I can't really say how much of the blame lands on DS3 though. Can someone comment on playing TLoU on both DS3 and DS4 and if aiming is any better on DS4?

Every game has changes to how the characters look, just compare Drake's face in U2 and 3. Its changing art priorities to go along with advanced technology. They all look enough like themselves to be totally recognizable imo. Their Uncharted 4 variants look by far the best in terms of their design.

Elena looks good , what are you smoking dude , shes way hotter than Hayden Panettiere.

What's the highest number of bullets a single guy takes in this vid?

Looks like 5 or 6, and like uc3, 3 punches will take down an enemy. Probably a fair guess that there will be stronger enemies in later levels who have suits of armor and are stronger, akin to uc3.

Nathan's fists stronger than bullets confirmed.

I recognise her because she's a blonde girl in Uncharted, not because she looks like Elena. She's the right hair on a completely new face. Sully looks like one of those sitcom characters who gets recast and everyone pretends they're the same person.

The characters all got minor tweaks from Uncharted 1 to 3, but they kept the same bone structure and features. These are all different people.

Like this isnt almost every video game ever.

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain is probably going to be my GOTY 2015.

But come on , I mean do you really think they will blow the big guns after Neil Druckmann said that Uncharted 3 blew way too much.

Introducing Stealth-(Fade in Fade out). Driving - YOU ARE IN CONTROL . Grapple Hook.

Since you are so unimpressed and meh by this demo though , Please share with us what kind of game in which you've seen an action sequence like this done better.(Uncharted 2 not allowed :) )

Uncharted 2 doesn't have actual driving and multiple open paths. So even that game couldn't do better than this.

I am genuinely shocked at the positive reception here. The graphics look nice but the gameplay was incredibly conservative and unremarkable.

The driving sequence...Not even sure what's the point ?

Keep moving forward through a hyper linear section where you can't even shoot.

People keep shitting on COD/Creed for being tired but this is exactly the case with UC4.

I suppose as a whole package its fun ,but this was standard western AAA gameplay right here.

Probably good its the last one.

Its a spectacle game, like God of War. I have always found Uncharted to be a bit lacklustre in the shooting and platforming departments, the movement always seems janky to me and it was basically the same in this gameplay trailer, Drake still has this weird movement system where its a fight between trying to keep the animation system intact and allowing you ease lf movement. Its bugged me since the first game, theres no real flow to the animation system, its just kind of janky and counter intuitive to the gameplay as you have to fight the animation system.

Having said that, the games have always received high praise and sell by the truck load so from a developers perspective, why change the formula.

There are a lot of intricate details going on in the animation so it seems kind of unavoidable, but its one of the things the series is known for. That's why I always put it under the spectacle banner, its basically Indiana Jones style action and thrills for the video game medium. A grand action adventure that you watch in awe as much as, maybe even more so than play. Hence the car sections etc. its all about tension, excitement and experience.

In does what it does extremely well with superb set pieces and holy shit moments but its always been bit of a broken game for me and its never really been revolutionary as far as gameplay is concerned. But you can't deny it has 'blockbuster' written all over it just seeing it. Its the Michael Bay of video games; looks amazing, sounds amazing and is one hell of a ride but at its core its fundamentally a bit broken.

Thanks for the answer.
Oh and I didn't mean open world like say far cry.
I just got the feeling this is much linear then everyone is expecting (by looking at the reactions).
It felt pretty similar to the presentation of tomb raider. Both have beautiful graphics but they can afford those graphics because everything they do is push you down a narrow path (not that that is by definition bad if the path is fun and doesn't feel to constricted).

After seeing so many amazing particle effects, i was a bit dissapointed when the Jeep hit the water. I expected a giant splash and not something so small ^^, but i'm confident that they will bring even that to perfection.

keep dreaming...with all that destructible environment, physics and open levels, lets just hope its solid 30 fps.

In the first unveil ND said its already running at locked 30, which means its likely running at 40+

It's just after all their talk about how TLoUR felt so much better and how all their games would be 60 from now on and especially with Uncharted collection coming out at 60.. seems weird U4 ending up running at 30

Please don't use the words Naughty Dog and Michael Bay in the same sentence.
