Got to get round to getting ShenMue 2 for the xbox 360, hopefully it will work on that system!! Seeing as Sega are in no hurry to make a HD release on both games....could be an indefinite wait for them!!!

The emulation has a few cosmetic issues, but is entirely playable.

I had no idea my sister remembered this gsme

$29?

Can't he at least do five hundred and ninety nine US dollars?
He can work more hours or pick up a second job if need be.

This is precisely what I was afraid kickstarter would become. Ben Kuchera needs to cover the dangers of Yoshida contributing to kickstarter asap. We need answers about Sony's involvement.
But he tweeted about his contribution right after he made the pledge I don't understand why you lot are raging about this. Sure it would have been better if Yoshida could have better communicated the extent of his pledge from the start but I don't see why we are entitled to full disclosure.

To my knowledge a beta version of shenmue with beta dobuita has never leaked. i'd love to see some of those materials.

I'm relatively certain Shenmue Dojo members found a beta version. You can see an earlier version of Yamanose here

Over the years several members have discovered a ton of beta content including maps, characters, music and recorded dialogue still on the disks.

yeah, i know. unfortunately that version is significantly further along than the one in the trailer. that stuff is locked in a sega vault somewhere.

Right that's probably very true. As much as I love the games, having the development start on Saturn then moved to Dreamcast and the huge production associated with it really meant the development seemed unoptimized. I mean the video I linked earlier shows these very minor cosmetic tweaks being made and from the footage many of the environments went through both large and small adjustments during the course of development.

I'm not certain if that's because of the direction of Suzuki, the delays or a production run amuck. Whatever the case it produced my favourite two games so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Sorry I was being sarcastic. :)

What's everyone favourite Shenmue trailer?

Although it's an unusual choice of music selection and it contains a lot of beta footage I always loved this trailer

I'm not going to be very original, but my pick is the E3 trailer for Shenmue II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Izd2f6k2I

When I got the game I was surprised at how this badass music was used (wasted?) for some banal minigame (arm wrestling maybe?). I guess that speaks about Shenmue ridiculous amount of good content...

Have they talked at all about possibly adding gifts to tiers or new tiers? Looking for a reason to increase my $300 backing or possibly getting even more cool stuff in my tier!

Not sure if it'll do any good but I messaged both Angry Joe and Boogie asking them to make videos to address all the FUD getting thrown around with Sony's involvement. Hopefully at least one of them does something.

Hate to shit the thread up but look what's a feature on Game Informer right now as an opinion piece: Opinion – Sony And Suzuki Need To Come Clean On Shenmue Budget And Funding

This is such horseshit. I don't see an issue with Yu Suzuki's post last night. Fucking sites are disgusting.

It's funny looking at that trailer and seeing how much of the game it shows, but without context you can't really tell how spoilery it is.
While they don't show the climatic boss fight against Dou Niu, they show the staircase QTE fight that happens immediately before it.

Will be
Niao Sun
the final boss of Shenmue 3?

Possible, although
I always got the impression that the 4 Chi You Min bosses weren't necessarily on the same page, so I wonder if she could be an ally of sorts. Whatever it is I've always liked her character design and I'm glad that she's highlighted as one of the 4 characters next to the series main characters.

Seeing this grainy video of her for years, and now we'll finally get to meet her, in hella polygon, high def detail.

Really intriguing character design. Can't wait to hang with her in Shenmue III.

Decided to go for it and bought an original Xbox. Got it from Goodwill online, so by next week I'll be able to start playing Shenmue 2 again...Finally!

Side benefit: original Xbox had the best version of many multi-platform games and some timeless exclusives of its own.

I still love mine.

Yea I have Otogi in my collection that I've always wanted to play, so I'll get some use out of it. It was worth it, cost me nothing really. Plus I got a later model so I should avoid the crappy DVD issues that my old one suffered. But we'll see if I have to deal with the capacitor issue.

Of all the consoles I've owned, I have actually had some of the LEAST issues with my OG Xbox. Have had the same one since 2004, still works like a charm. Big contrast from my horrific experiences with 3 red rings on 360.

And Otogi is amazing.

I'm always going to remember this time on GAF.
Seeing all this discussion of Shenmue, all of us fans uniting, all of the avatars and defence force banners, the Yu Suzuki appreciation thread, people who haven't even played the games pledging and of course Shenmue 3 becoming a reality.
It's been an amazing time.

Cheers everybody :)

I know, it's already been a real journey since this all began. I can imagine looking back at all this once the Kickstarter is complete, it will really feel like a real moment.

And then we've got a couple years of knowing that Shenmue is back in active development, and feeling part of it.

Once in a lifetime gaming experience we're having here, and it's awesome to step back sometimes and really notice it.

I was playing Shenmue 1 Saturday night before the announcement just messing around with no serious thought to actually getting a new game. What an amazing few weeks. This is the first time I've felt part of a gaming community in a long time.

It really is particularly for some of the more long-term fans that have been waiting since essentially the release of Shenmue 2 for the third title. We've been through it all; the death of the Dreamcast, DigitialRex forming, Adam Doree fake story of Shenmue 3 development on Kikikizo, announcement and subsequent canceling of Shenmue online not to mention bogus rumour after bogus rumour that has plagued fans through the years.

As a loyal fan it's been very testing but this announcement is very special.

An ally? I might be going crazy, but I could have sworn I read a description of her years ago stating that she was 'extremely cruel'.
