Civil War vs This is going to be interesting since they're both obstensibly about an idealistic paragon clashing both ideologically and physically over a cynical billionaire in a metal suit.

Lots of unknown factors, civil war has the marvel brand and everything to go with that, plus it's a sequel to one of the higher regarded marvel films

BVS of course has the novelty of batman and superman for the first time and definitely more spectacle.

I wouldn't call him an idiot. In new 52 suicide squad he's like the leader of the group. Also, if I'm not mistaken, he's ironical.

i think it's a reverse situation though since the trailers are really painting bruce wayne as the sympathetic figure here (and he's also got alfred to knock some sense into him) whereas marvel's been pushing tony stark to asshole territory for a while now and captain america is very likeable.

I dunno. They're giving Bruce a good reason to go after Superman, but I don't know that they're making him look sympathetic, either. They've got Alfred yelling at him for going over the line, for example, and a shot of him snapping someone's neck (heyoooo). And on the flip - the "Tony's an asshole" thing isn't really being hit any harder than it's ever been, which is to say that it's lip service. Robert Downey Jr. hasnt' actually been in any way unlikable as Stark since that one drunk party in Iron Man 2 - and even then, he was still pretty funny.

Even in Ultron, which we're supposed to believe is entirely his fault, he comes out of that relatively clean. He and cap aren't even angry at each other at the end of that movie.

I do think, though, that at this point (and especially after Ultron) that Civil War is more of what audiences want out of an Avengers movie than both Avengers movies have been. Hell, I got the sense Winter Soldier was, too. They don't really dislike Tony, even though we keep being told that they're supposed to. But they REALLY love Cap.

There was a little talk of this on a trailer review I was watching. Batman cracking (slightly more than normal) would be an interesting direction for the films. It would probably be more reason for the Batfamily to be featured in some form to keep him grounded. I could even see his losing it be partially the reason he put up the costume and why when he brings it back out he looks at it with such disdain.
 
Trailer was hot fire.

Except for Luthor that is. He just came off like a little creep.
The animated Luthors (Young Justice, DCAU) oozed charisma.

Even Superman Returns, as dull and uninspiring as that movie was, and as silly and slapstick as that Luthor was, Spacey managed to make him entertaining, even a little likable.

I'll give him a chance but new Joker hit pretty hard and it was only like five seconds.

I just don't see Luthor '16 looking Joker '16 in the eyes much less get under his skin.

But then the first image we got of him was the classic bald look so I'll let the movie do it's thing.
 
I mean, we already know that he's going to flash back to his parents death, plus we have all speculated on the Red Son soldier stuff being a dream/vision. There was also that split second while Clark(?) was talking where we heard screaming while bats flew out of presumably the Batcave.

The trailer really makes it seem like Bruce isn't in a solid place mentally.

TBH there are only two elements in the trailer interesting me. The adulation/fear of Superman angle (which on form Snyder will bork but hopefully not) and Batman unhinged.

We've had a fair few approaches at Batman (and Superman) but these stand out to me a bit more as being different. The idea of Batman being older and due to personal involvement wavering back and forth over his moral line of conduct is interesting.

As with MoS though I just really wish the writing/directing team was different. I fully expect them to under-deliver on everything but spectacle and while perhaps misguided I always put character and thematics first even if we're talking a superhero film.

If an animated, supposedly for kids film like The Incredibles can manage to seamlessly juggle action, comedy, tension, thrills and marital crisis with the challenges of keeping a family together and explore a number of interesting themes at the same time then I don't see the need to excuse other films (mainly live action) falling so short time after time.
 
I can understand trepidation with Jesse as Lex but I think the best evidence that he probably won't be the kid from Zombieland is he doesn't act timid in this trailer at least. He's seen treating the senator as an equal, teasing Superman and smirking even though he knows Supes could turn him to twice-toasted ash and probably sees the other heroes as peons that could become subservient just the same. I think he knows he knows how to play people. Overall, to me, he just seems more confident than his usual character type which gives me hope.

Have you not seen The Social Network? He's the furthest thing from timid in most of that movie. This performance seems very much based on that one.
 
Jesse Lex looks like a pro wrestling heel that has a bunch of guys under his command but once the good guy hulks up and takes down the whole crew he kneels down begging for mercy before booking it into the crowd.

"Tepid" and "Okay" isn't the narrative I'm arguing isn't real where Man of Steel is concerned. There's a very loud, vocal set of critics who think the movie is terrible. It's not. Just like Thor 2 wasn't.

Using RT and MC's user ratings, Man of Steel compares favorably with Thor 2, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The First Avenger. Not one of these movies was box office poison for the Marvel franchise.

The board room scene where he tells them he's giving them the least amount of attention possible is the best Lex Luthor performance we've seen in live action. Yes, including Michael Rosenbaum.

Never been concerned with this casting.

He might not snipe people as much in this one though (at least not in front of them like Zukerberg). He'll need alot of "friends" to do his dirty work after all. I assume he'll definitely dig in to the heroes with the same cutting and rude ass remarks as he did in TSN though

How Batman's described, at the end of his rope, a burnout, paints him as a guy who resurfaces with the purpose of ending Superman. If we're to assume his actions leading up to the fight are in service of the fight, making him ruthless to the end works. I believe Batman goes into the fight ready to lose everything. Played right, Superman's victory should be to give Batman hope again.
 
I think what happens in that batman branding scene is batman's big return. He ties up that random thug and presses the batarang really hard against body to make the bat symbol. Then he leaves just as the cops show up and leaves the batarang in the wall. It does not look like a burn mark, not gooey enough.
 
I for once I'm glad that MoS got criticized for destruction porn, we probably wouldn't have gotten what's perhaps the most interesting plot thread in this movie.

Also this is probably a more Snyder film than MoS ever was, he tried hard to ape Nolan for MoS even changed DP for that movie. With this he seems to be embracing the spectable and style that characterized his movies. It has that Snyder look and signature that MoS lacked IMO.

Ha might as well vent here

But sweet jeebsus, gaming sites shouldn't talk about comics/comic book movies anymore than a music site should offer insight into a video game.

"Christopher Nolan introduced a darker, grittier, and more violent hero with Batman Begins in 2005."

I keep reading this sentence like 100 times, and wondering how anyone can come to this conclusion without ignoring like 20 years of Batman history. And even 2 movies, and somewhat the animated series.

Re-introduced... maybe. But even then Nolan's Bats is less dark and violent than Burton's.

this article is ridiculous, they have a right to be pissed this wasn't meant to be a trailer just a first look for fans at comic-con. Sure, they are very naive to think it wasn't going to get leaked but I really doubt this was how they wanted to officially reveal the movie, it just happens that thankfully it was a damn good first look.

whereas the avengers aou trailer that got leaked was going to be an official trailer and not a first look at a film that still shooting.

He always looked the part and having the best batsuit put to screen helps. Working with Goyer and knowing some of his past performances was questionable. Playing Batman is not exactly stretching an actors talents but Clooney didn't exactly excel with the role.

Much better with Terrio coming on board and Affleck initiating it.

IMO is unfair to compare Incredibles with any other comic book movies, Incredibles is an Original idea so they have all the liberties in the world for the script, while Comic book movies have restriction because of rules already established in that character and that are hold sacred to even change it or innovate it (especially with Batman and Superman)
