SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Nice to wake up to a comfortable break over 5 million this wet typhoon Japan morning.

Put it in the bank baby its as good as gold! Come on 7 million. Let's go fence sitters!

So, friends: did I see that Shenmue may have secured another private funding partner? So that, even though we wont hit 10m, we might have extra funding to allow the full scope of the game behind the scenes?

I think you may be referring to this answer Cedric provided-

Do you think that last-minute investment from exterior sources will get the funding up to the €11m budget that Yu Suzuki wanted?

It's possible, yes

Again possible but no guarantees. It's up to us fans to push as much as we can in next two days and hopefully give them every ability to secure additional funding if Suzuki requires.

More impressive than the dollars added today so far ($152K) is the number of new backers (1,442) which is the most since the first four days of the campaign. We should definitely pass 60K total backers in the end which is incredible.

All this Shenmue excitment made me realize that I had seen a Dreamcast copy of Shenmue 2 in a game shop about 5 years ago. Today I decided to check if it was still sitting in that same display case. And it was. So I bought it.

Super excited about this because I only ever played the Xbox version.

Surprised someone didn't pick it up and flip it with all the crazy prices you can see both copies selling for online.

I am slightly biased since I played it on the Dreamcast first but I truly believe the Japanese VA makes this version miles superior to the Xbox version.

Enjoy it.

We don't really know how the physical version will work so probably best not to assume. I doubt you'll be able to redeem it through Steam but who knows. You can definitely create two accounts using the same credit card though.

same credit card should be fine on two accounts.

the PC version might be on a disk and may not redeem on steam (probably will though, they just can't confirm without going through greenlight).

i think the higher tier extras like the telecom one can only be activated on the platform you picked on that pledge. (i.e you back $80 and pick ps4, the telecom extra will be ps4 only for that pledge)

Hmm, I'll just go for both physical versions then. I'll keep my highest pledge for PC.
Thanks for the credit card confirmation.

I'm still trying to decide on a backing number for myself. I figure the phone calls at $80 will be put on YouTube.

I'm thinking physical version on PC, but I'd love to have it redeem through Steam anyway.

That capsule toy sounds fucking awesome, though. But I really can't afford to pledge that much.

Decisions, decisions.

Fisical version comes in exclusive box for backers. DO IT! U can always get the steam version in a promo later.

I hope the phones calls will be similar to Shenmue, which you had dozens of different recorded lines and unique conversations that were scene specific. It won't be nearly the same hearing them on Youtube but you also need to be responsible with amount you can pledge too.

I guess the question is what would Ryo do?

Question about supporting Shenmue kickstarter. I have never supported one before so I'm a little confused. Is the ps4 physical release going to happen anyway or is it exclusive to donors.. or is it just an exclusive sleeve but its happening anyway? or is it just digital if you don't donate? =O

I stand to be corrected, but at this stage no one knows if it will get a physical release outside the KS campaign. At least it's certain the backer case is exclusive for those that pledge at $60 value or higher.

Pledging now mitigates risk you might not get physical copy down the line...

Where's that guy who acted as if there was no final push happening?

Damn, this is good to see. Still want to know what the bomb is, though.

While I think it's highly unlikely we won't see a physical release down the line, it's worth considering pledging because we don't know for sure and your money now will have a much greater effect on the development and growing YsNet as an independent studio than buying the copy in a couple years when it is released.

$5m?

Finally!

I saw this at the Dojo, I can verify the veracity of the message but thought it would be interesting to add to conversation
Nintendo NX port confirmed!

Reading between the lines, Sony's "contribution" seems to be the standard timed exclusive $$ (some, but not much), and the 5 minutes they have Yu onstage at E3. If that's the case, I'd be a little chaffed too.

This is a great point.

I would be compelled to get that option if I knew how many phone conversations there would actually be. I'm worried it'll be like, a couple each.

Given the emphasis on the rapport system and the fact the original games had so much recorded lines of dialogue I would hazard a guess that it would be more than a few.

Damn it! I want the $80 tier and the $100 tier. Why can't the $100 tier include the $80 tier stuff as well, like a lot of the other options include the stuff at lower options. What am I to do? :(

It doesn't say "+everything from the $80 tier" or mention the "S3 Telecom card." I mean it does include everything except the thing that makes the $80 tier unique, as far as I can tell. I want those phone conversations. :(

That's because the $80 tier was created later. They can't change the text of a tier if someone has pledged into it.

Reminder emails are due to be sent out in ~20 minutes. Let's see if that electrocutes the pledge speed. Also AJ updated us around this time last night so let's see if they do so again. That Twitter post above indicates they're probably about to become active. They need to do something and something soon.

We're about to approach the 48 hours remaining mark and the timing is becoming critical now.

For all the mid range tiers everything from the lower tiers is included. It's just that they can't edit the pledge descriptions after someone backed that tier.

Thanks for this information, but how do we know this for sure? Sorry this is my first Kickstarter.

Found it

Ok, thanks for the explanations guys, it's made my evening. Now I just have to decide how high to go with this. I adore Shenmue. Sorry for the daft spam. These threads move fast sometimes.

The $100 tier was there from the start, so they can't edit the text of the reward tier. Whereas the $80 reward was added a week ago, so the text is more accurate. Check this update where they confirm the $80 tier is included in all higher tiers:

You get everything from the lower tiers in the higher ones. They couldn't update the tiers to reflect that you would be getting that when they added new ones.

As people have said, the text on the tier buttons can't be changed once they have backers. They introduced new tiers throughout the campaign and can't update the button texts. Look at the tier descriptions on the middle of the kickstarter page instead!

Yes we're 40K shy of next stretch goal. However I am really hoping we can attain some of those advanced combat stretch goals. That wold really cap this whole campaign for me.

Just upgraded my pledge from the physical PS4 version to the $100 "Trial Version." I admittedly feel a little fraught with the outdated description when I definitely want to ensure a disc copy from my home console, but I want the honor of tossing some additional change at this dream project despite having never played through any previous installments. I'm completely uninterested in the beta access so I might consider getting rid of it down the road. I want to savoir my first experience with Shenmue III via a Dualshock controller.

I've settled on the $175 tier. I really hope we hit 7.5 million to push the battle system all the way. It's a bit of a stretch but maybe we get there. They really need to open up post-kickstarter funding too so we can get past that 10 million number Yu Suzuki mentioned. I want the full Shenmue III vision. I'll take what I can get but I want the whole sandwich. :)
