Star Wars KOTOR 2 Gets Big Update + out on Mac & Linux

That's kind of random, but awesome. Will probably replay this after I finish my replay of New Vegas (with graphic mods on PC it's amazing). Obsidian needs to make more big RPGs like these.

I guess it's time for 4th playthrough then!

Amazing game.

A little warning for people who is installing that unofficial update with the addition of some cut off areas. One of these areas introduce a really strong end boss that proved for me impossible to beat, basically making it impossible for me to continue playing the game.

I'm serious. I couldn't continue in any way. You're left to fight this boss with only one character and he is very strong.

Thus almost put me off of starting with the new content, but if I hit a brick wall I can cheat engine my way out.

Holy shit. Disney is gaining massive brownie points for all the stuff they've been doing with old Star Wars games.
Not enough to make up for them selling the current game license to fucking EA though.

Hassle free 4K support and TSLRCM implementation (Assuming there's no egregious bugs/issues), fucking amazing. I've been using my original discs since 2004, but this finally is worthy of putting money down on.

Keep 'em coming I say Disney. Jedi Outcast next pleeease.

Anyone have a fix for the spinning camera? I don't even have a controller plugged in.

Edit: A HOTAS is a controller and must be disconnnected prior to playing. *sigh*

Cool, but I doubt I'll play the games ever again. I do *love* the Scorchy LP of KOTOR II and that's like an annual read for me.

I'd love to see full remake/reimaginings of the two games inside the new Star Wars canon. Obsidian's lore about the Mandalorian wars and the Jedi civil war stuff was really interesting and KOTOR 2 has some fcking amazing sith characters. It's conceptually the most interesting Star Wars has ever been, elevating the material way above the "fun pulp SF" stuff that you usually enjoy from the franchise.

Honestly the gameplay is just average tho. And the bugginess / incompleteness of KOTOR 2 hurts a lot. I'd even be satisfied if they wanted to redo the series as Action RPGs.

Yeah the gameplay in KOTOR2 is kinda broken. You'll start off pretty weak but once things get going you'll just faceroll everything.

Crap now after I start a new game and create a character and after the movies are finished the game just locks up.....blah.

Glad to see that the updates didn't diminish that authentic KOTOR 2 experience.

Yeah never had these issues before.

Also if I try to change the graphics options the game crashes.

Edit: This damn game. I have to play it in AllowWindowedMode=1
Just have to make sure.

Display Options]
FullScreen=1
Disable Movies=1
Disable Intro Movies=1
Sort Modules=1
Width=1982
Height=1080

is set to the same resolution. Ughhh this game

Well look what UPS just dropped off.

I'm feeling the KOTOR love today.

Best Star Wars comic of all time and my favorite expanded universe material after the Timothy Zahn novels. Zayne Carrick might be my favorite Star Wars character of all time. He's basically the Peter Parker of the Star Wars universe; has a good heart, always does the right thing, decently powerful, but a bit unlucky. Enjoy!

Now I'm mad that I spoiled one of the bigger twists for myself a few years back. I assumed I'd never play the game, what with the awful port and the general shitty state of the release.

It's pretty great of Disney or whoever decided to pay for this patch. Aside from a REALLY ANNOYING sound bug in the prologue*, it looks like they did a good job.

*I hear a continually looping mechanical sound when I move to certain rooms in the ship. Once the sound starts, it doesn't stop until I load a saved game.

Damn, I still have my save from Telos IV on Steam but I want to restart the game due to achievements. It's a shame Peragus is so slow compared to KOTOR's opening, but I suppose I can struggle through it.

There's a mod out there that lets you skip all of Peragus from your first interaction with Kreia till the time you first board the Ebon Hawk.

It fills in the blanks by giving you the lost XP and items, as well as allowing you to choose the general trend of your alignment (light/dark) and the influence levels with Kreia and Atton.

The game is using OpenGL so...

Not under Windows, is it? Besides AMD's OpenGL drivers aren't anywhere as shitty as they used to be. I mean my 5870 that I had years ago handled Assault on Dark Athena perfectly for example :P

Edit: How do I get DSR to work with the game? I have it enabled and I'm already running other games in 1440p, but I'm not able to here, they said you could select up to 5K resos so what gives?

Edit #2: And yep. Game still runs like trash when you enable Frame Buffer Effects. God dammit. Fakeedit: Oh, you can just swap out the ATIOGLXX.dll file for a newer one to resolve some issues.

Completely unexpected and greatly appreciated.

The happy thoughts from games pre-360 getting achievement support, oh man. I hope KOTOR 1 gets the same treatment. I never made it off the first planet, but that would definitely encourage me.

Wow, this is awesome. I'll definitely install this tonight!

Speaking of KOTOR, anyone know how KOTOR 1 runs on iOS?

It runs and looks great. ran fine on my 4s so if you have anything better than that you should be good to go. Controller and icloud support too, although the default touch controls were made with an unusual ammount of skill and care. Might not be the greatest on a small screen but I played it with zero issues. It's one of the better ios ports out there.

Also, WOW at the KOTOR 2 updates. This is very very impressive.

This is pretty amazing, now I just need Kotor 1 with this kind of update and maybe I will finally play and finish the game.

Any way to get the game to give you achievements for your mid game save? I have eight achievements from playing one of my old saves today and they are almost all end-game stuff.

That's pretty awesome, but why not add controller support for the first game at the same time? I'd love to get rid of my Xbox version.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. I've glad they updated it, as I can now easily play it as I'd always wanted to.

However, I'm playing with the Restored Content mod. It seems that some content isn't voiced. This is fine, however it seems like the game is automatically skipping dialogue as the (non-existent) dialogue is "finished" and sets me immediately to the next dialogue choice. I assume this is where the restored content is. Either that, or it's randomly skipping huge chunks of dialogue.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

This is a very old bug; so old that I can't actually remember a solid solution to it besides quitting the game entirely, then reloading it from your most recent save, perhaps? Try alt-tabbing out and back in as well.

Question:
Is there a way to increase the size of the Menu/Journal ? I can't read it cleanly from ten feet away. It would be great if an option was available to make the Menu fill up the full screen.

Slightly disappointed that the Prologue still references Keyboard & Mouse commands, which obviously isn't useful when playing with a controller.

Still, though, very happy with the update.

honestly one of the best LPs I've ever read.

OMG. This update for one of my favorite games ever is perfect! Every small issue I'd had about the game has been solved. Controller support is a BIG plus, since I've been playing the game with an xpadder profile that while gets the job done, it doesn't control well in combat. Can not wait for GOG update!!!!

Started again tonight, maybe I'll finish without a bug this time.

And I really wish I had a way to get some physical pazaak cards. Id love to take them to my Star Wars roleplaying game sessions and do some gambling.

DS4 is perfect for playing this. Easy to do most stuff with the controller buttons but then you have the touchpad just in case you feel like you need to use a mouse for anything. Seriously, so much better than playing the first one with keyboard and mouse controls.

Just a heads up but if you have an SLI setup go disable it via Inspector because holy negative scaling Batman. When I should have been getting in the region of a couple of hundred fps I was getting 10.

One thing I noticed is that the left stick isn't just a straight map of WASD for movement as a small push will walk while a full push will run. Not a biggie but usually something missed out when patching in controller support for older PC titles. It's the little things.

Yeah I got that too, happened once in the first proper area too. But a reload isn't too much of a hassle, so it's not that big of a deal.

Yes, under Windows as well. Why wouldn't it?

Assasult on Dark Athena was D3D if I'm not mistaken, original Butcher Bay was OpenGL though.

AMD's OpenGL driver is still as shitty as it used to be when you compare it to NV's. There's also that little thing that KOTOR2 was ported from the original Xbox which had NV GPU in it. The game was always somewhat problematic to run on ATI/AMD hardware because of these reasons.
