that katy perry drag is the highlight of her career
she wont win in a fight against swift but YASSS GIRL GO IN

I'm done. It must suck to be so obsessed and disillusioned with race and use it as a crutch in every possible way.

What crutch? To me it sounds like your trying to ignore exactly what is happening all of a sudden and as if Nicki rant is something new?

I think most are trying to disregard her argument because of who she is rather than the content that was address. Maybe you must not know the gravity of hip hop and the ghettos that black artist who are not pop enough have to go through and who has to fight for recognition when for the rest it really comes easily.

I don't know how to not be aware of my surrounding and it's not something I can just forgot or act like doesn't happen. Please...

I'm really just reading this thread because I miss "celebrity deathmatch".

who's the other chick - and what the fuck?

The other woman is Iggy Azalea. And the guy is some nobody idiot. He was invited/snuck into the party Taylor was at (Katy Perry's birthday party by the way) and painted a swastika on his chest then went around the darkened room and tried to get people to take pictures with him.

Anaconda was pure trash, simple as! I don't know why anyone who had a part in producing that absolute fucking trash should be talking about any issues at all! I mean seriously just go watch the video and listen to the song. I mean, what the fuck is she talking about white media for when she represented herself like that on video?

Two vapid talentless puppets throwing a hissyfit nuanced issued via Twitter just seems to create the perfect storm of "who gives a shit?" for me.

Neither of the two are evenly remotely qualified to carry on a conversation about the fucking weather, let alone on body image, sexism in media, or any of the other half dozen or so of issues that this brings up.

They are two string puppets having a slap fight on stage while a million idiots erupt into applause because their outfits are shiny and the stage has bright lights.

This might be the most "i'm 12 and i like pink floyd" post I've ever seen.

Thank you. She should be ashamed of herself. Especially as someone who has nothing to say about black issues (unless she's disrespecting the image of a black icon), to suddenly play the race card in such a petty manner is asinine. Not to mention the attempt to somehow ignore Beyonce, Kendrick, and Bruno Mars receiving video of the year award nominations. Or the attempt to make an even more insular argument by saying this is about black female rappers. Fuckouttahere.

.

Minaj clearly talking about T.Swift here. No need to "didn't say a word about you"

I'm gonna come at this a little differently. I just watched every video nomianted. Every video (all of them) that featured women in them were slim/skinny women. So in reflecting on Nikki's original tweet, I see a very general comment being made about all the nominated videos and those judging them; not any special focus on Taylor. Taylor indeed took special exception to the comment and it can be fairly argued that she was/felt thrown under the bus with everyone else by Nikki's tweet. Ultimately I suppose she could and decided to address the matter because she was also talking to her with this general comment, but it *was* a general comment, not directed at anyone specifically.

Taylor isn't wrong to defend herself. Just because she wasn't the only person being attacked doesn't mean she wasn't attacked. But no, she wasn't "clearly talking about T.Swift" in this situation. She was talking about the industry and the artistic choices being made by those who got nominated and perhaps more so by those doing the nominating.

That said, Nikki is sniffin coke if she thought Anaconda should have been nominated for anything. Fuck outta here.

Two publicists sat down, decided their contracted artists weren't getting enough exposure, so they constructed a Twitwar which escalated all over the internet and both artists were getting their attention-fix.

like taylor swift needs more exposure and attention...

Is he wrong, though?

He's absolutely 100% wrong. By virtue of having the access to millions of followers and fans who actually pay attention to what they say and do, their conversations are immeasurably more visible and impactful than whatever indie artist you never heard of has to say. Sheer artistic achievement has nothing to do with this, it's all about cultural cachet.

Yes, and two multi-millionaires have driven engagement with their respective corporate brands and successfully advertised an awards program both of them will most likely receive accolades at in the near future.

People really need to stop letting corporations and celebrities co-opt social justice rhetoric.

I can't remember Phoenix Dark saying anything positive about Minaj ever without including some negative caveat so I view all of his posts about Nikki in a cynical light.

Was the commentary from The Atlantic linked yet? http://www.theatlantic.com/entertai...minaj-vmas-twitter-bad-blood-anaconda/399164/

And I wonder if Perry read it before making the tweet, since it talks about the "pitting women against women" hypocrisy bit.

When Swift chimed in, it changed the conversation from woman versus institution to woman versus woman. Ironically, this is exactly the complaint Swift leveled against Minaj: “It's unlike you to pit women against each other.” This fits with Swift’s recent campaign against the Mean Girls stereotype of women as catty infighters; her 1989 shows have featured clips videos of her famous buddies telling the largely tweenage girl audience about how great same-sex friendship can be. The cause is righteous, but Swift’s tweet to Minaj shows the limits of it. When female solidarity shuts down someone’s honest expression of frustration at society, inequality, and racial and body-type bias, that’s hardly progressive.

I like how she deleted the tweet that started it and Is only now trying to make it a bigger issue. Taylor responded to the tweet specifically calling her out and diminishing her art just because she's a skinny white female (the only one in the nominees consisting of Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Kendrick Lamar).

Kingsley's (nicki fan) response:

Great response, he's right on nearly everything.

Except the Azealia Banks thing. The industry don't want to touch her because she starts shit with every artist and slagged off her own major label whilst she was signed to it.

I'll throw my hat to the ring too. I've worked for Sony Music in the past and this is all decided by major labels. The artist has nothing to do with it. Whoever the biggest artists in the world are at the time will be nominated.
