Microsoft Gamescom 2015 Conference

Some German Xbox Dude was on stage at the beginning.

German Xbox guy opened the conference afaik

Ah. Tuned in when QB was on. All I seemed to hear was American English throughout the conference. MS really need to have some Euro(and Asian) equivalents of their American counterparts.

Honestly this is probably the greatest XBox Lineup in history.

IN the next16 months

Rare Replay
Gears of War UE
Gigantic
Forza 6
Rise of The Tomb Raider
Fable Legends
Halo 5
Quantum Break
ReCore
Killer Instinct Season 3
Scalebound
Gears of War 4
Sea of Thieves
Halo Wars 2
Crackdown
And More

Lots of games definitely, but only QB, Scalebound and Crackdown for now for me. I'm not interested in the Halos, Forzas and Fable. Not interested in a Rare mmo, haven't seen enough of Recore and Gears 4 to comment and the others I can get elsewhere.

The greatest line up was 2006-2008:
Gears of War
Halo 3
Bioshock
Viva Pinata
Mass Effect
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Tales of Vesperia

Sure persecution complex. Like the thread isn't inundated with crap like I mentioned and it happens every time.

Great conference. Qb is a must buy for me now.
As is tomb Raider.

You just gotta ignore it. If you're happy with what you saw then that's all that counts.

I'm surprised people didn't enjoy it. I loved it. Tons of games and great features. I'm tired of the negativity and "not feeling it" on everything Microsoft does. Everything is just this or just that. Everything discounted regardless of how good it is. I don't get it.

Well it's called opinions. Some people, believe it or not, don't like the same things you do. We are on a board that let's people say what they want about a game unless completely being a console warrior. If all you want is to be in a vacuum and only hear positive things about your console of choice, this isn't the place. Being critical about things isn't just because people want to rag on the thing you like, sometimes criticism is to try to make things better by pointing out where improvements can be made.

Look, I'll quote your original argument again...

Your original post doesn't mention that. It just says that there was nothing at the press conference to excite you because you have no interest in the MS core franchises, but you don't even acknowledge that there was anything else there. And drop a 5/10... That's just lazy reviewing right there. You didn't even dig into the meat of the press conference before throwing out your arbitrary score.

I mean there were definitely things to bemoan at the conference that might have made it worthy of a 5/10... Like the eSports Halo prerecorded footage fiasco, but you know, take some time and list your beef without "blah blah" and make a quality post instead of some drive by score dropping.

Just saying. My review of your MS Gamescom press conference review? 2/10.

Christ all mighty, guy... are you really 'reviewing' someone else's personal impressions of a conference?
BlazingDarkness has been around here a long time. He's not just trolling to intentionally offend the MS defense force. Some of you are taking this shit way too personally.

Recap time

QB i will buy but i hope the shooting is kept at least 50/50 with exploration, the least shooting the better for me.

Scalebound Not a fan, the main character is annoying, another Nathan Drake wanabe, pass.

Tomb Raider Not for me, should be called Mountain Shooting. I love the original TR where every room was a puzzle and you were pretty much the only person in miles, save for the ocassional bear or enemy. This is another game and i don't like it.

Crackdown I'm tired of open world, quests filled worlds by now. The destruction looked pretty lame too, not my thing.

Halo 5 I care more about the singleplayer, they have yet to show anything substantial but it's a no brainer anyway, bought.

Forza Yawn

Halo Wara My most anticipated Xbox game right now, i hope they deliver.

Haha, that would be a terrible name, but I do see your point.

Haha, that actually had me in tears from the laughter.

Just going to point out that Sea of Thieves isnt a MMO ;)

Some thoughts:

-Glad to see the Rare Replay push at the beginning. That deserves as many sales as it can get.

-Quantum Break seemed different than what I had been led to expect up to this point. That said, it looked fun, and these are the Max Payne peeps after all, so I trust them with Bullet Time Evolved. The show has a way better cast than expected, too.

-Scalebound was also a bit different than expected, but I'm as sold as I ever was on it. The frame rate was off for the presentation sure, but this is Platinum we're talking about. They got Bayonetta 2 running at 60fps on the WiiU of all systems. I trust the combat will also have more depth than shown this far, and I'm interested in the rpg elements.

-Crackdown still looks a ways out, but it definitely looks like Crackdown. The multiplayer doesn't excite me as much as it should, because I have my doubts it will work as implemented. I'd be happier if they managed to get the destructible environments into single player, though(Crackdown+Red Faction Guerilla would be the best thing ever). Still, showing us the green orb right into gameplay tells me they know what works in the series, so it has me excited.

-Tomb Raider. Well, I really liked the last game, but goddamn does Crystal Dynamics want to be Naughty Dog. Considering that Fallout 4 is on the same day, I'm still considering waiting for the PS4 version.

-I can understand why Microsoft would focus on the multiplayer aspect of Halo 5, but that was a really annoying way to go about it.

-As excited as I am for Bloodstained, that whole segment just kinda felt like they were trying to tap into that Shemue 3 good will. It felt out of place to me.

-Phantom Dust really is dead, isn't it?

-Nice going with Killer Instinct season 3 and Rash. Hoping there's more Battletoads news to come than that, though.

-Halo Wars 2 was not the megaton I was hoping for, but I'm glad that others are excited for it. I suppose it makes more sense for Microsoft to do this from a corporate perspective as opposed to, say, Banjo Threeie(as much as it saddens me to say).

Overall, I cannot recall a better Gamescom conference from Microsoft. I'm a little saddened that they didn't really give me anything new to be excited about, but at least it cemented my previous excitement for some of their exclusives.

Basically, yeah. I'm not much of a shooter fan, and the Xbox thrives on shooters.

My favorite Xbox 360 exclusives last gen were Blue Dragon, Kameo, Alan Wake (though i wasn't as fond of the gunplay), Viva Pinata, and Lost Odyssey.

I had a good time with Halo and Gears of War, of course, but I like those in small, and often forgettable, doses.

Yeah but here's the thing... it happens in every Sony/Nintendo conference thread too. People are allowed to be negative/critical about things. Don't try and make it a unique to one company thing, and don't take it personally.

As for QB I agree, must buy status for me confirmed.

KI Season 3 and Rash(Battletoad) is in KI S3. They havent revealed anything else on Sea of Thieves or their other game though if that is what youre asking

Yeah mostly wondering what their other big game is. Sea of Thieves looks fantastic but I'm still curious what else they are working on.

It was an OK conference, but I want more than OK. I want something that makes me sit up and take notice, get excited about, and all they gave was more of what we've seen before.

If nothing before (E3) got you excited, then it is no surprise that what you saw today did not do the trick.

But please tell me where you saw Halo Wars 2 before today?

I am excited for Forza 6 in September and Halo 5 in October. That is just this year.

Oh, is it? I thought it was also while playing. That's why I thought it looked terrible -- like a handicap was needed for the "pros".

They didn't do a very good job explaining but everything we saw during their casting section was the new Spectator mode for Halo 5. It was loosely implemented in the beta and worked ok but this looks much more fleshed out which is neat for watching some higher level people play.

Thought this was an ok conference but didn't really do anything to push me toward purchasing the console at some point. Microsoft is doubling down on the type of games it wants on its console and those are shooters and anything that looks like it is similar to something else popular out there already. Tomb Raider did not look like Tomb Raider AT ALL and looked like a pretty generic cover shooter with minor stealth added that isn't really necessary since you are a bullet sponge anyway. Then finally they showed some actual tomb raiding and adventuring at the very end, but we'll see how diverse those sections of the game are. But yeh, seems like this new game is just a continuation of the latter half of the last tomb raider when it all fell apart.

Scalebound was the major game that just had my gamer senses tingling and had me online looking at used console prices for awhile. But man .... nothing at all like I expected. Can't even really identify what they are going for with the game. Does not have the feel or look or style of a Kamiya game. Animations look so stiff. Voice acting is plain bad. Main character looks like a thrown away early concept render of Dante. The environment has seemingly no art direction and looks like its just randomly thrown together rocks and hills and whatnot. The floating islands look like how you would go, " hey floating land is cool right? yeh lets throw some in the background at random ". Just doesn't look .......... inspired. It all looks very generic. I'll keep a close eye on it though as truly it is the one game that is exclusive that has me leaning toward a potential purchase. And now that is only due to Kamiya being involved.

Just a ton of cover shooters and generic looking stuff left and right. Halo multiplayer looked about as generic as you can possibly get. Cool for fans of the genre, but man I am beyond done with competitive shooters. So f'in boring now and mindless. They had better level design by 10 year olds in OG Unreal Tournament CTF custom servers/maps.

Best of the show I think was Crackdown with that destruction engine. Think the other major project I see that interests me in the future lineup is ReCore. But yeh, needle is not moved at all from this conference. Thought it was pretty bland really. Also a ton of " also on Windows 10 " titles and " console first " type things. So when it came down to pure exclusives and first party, Crackdown was the best showing. QD looked like a cover shooter with infamous skills thrown into the mix. Could be fun throughout though if they slowly unlock the powers and it is a 8-12 hour type affair ala Infamous where you are constantly getting new things throughout the experience and finding new ways to kill enemies until the end.

Are there any of these games that we can consider potentially being at the top of their genre here?

That's all I really care about when I look at exclusives now because I don't have as much time to game as much and I try to play the best/most fun possible. If a game is a multiplat, especially for something like Witcher 3, I'll play it on my PC rather than PS4.

Yeah mostly wondering what their other big game is. Sea of Thieves looks fantastic but I'm still curious what else they are working on.

Youll probably either see it at E3 2015 or after Sea of Thieves comes out. Its like Lionshead. We know they have been working on a new ip for a while, but theyre focues on showing off Fable Legends right now. Once it releases then theyll focus on showing their next game

My two cents.

This was a good conference for me and I'm actually excited to finally be able to play some things on my Xbox One now. I have the full picture of releases so im excited (with the exception of fallout 4). So basically, this was easily a good follow up from E3.

Grade: A

I'm surprised that people enjoyed the conference so much. I thought everything shown looked weak, and the Halo eSports thing was an unending nightmare. Very disappointed that Quantum Break is pretty much just a cover shooter and that Scalebound looks so damn slow. Puzzled that their big one more thing was a Halo Wars sequel and that they chose to highlight the shitty looking Homefront sequel.

At least they showed up, I guess.

Yep, and I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum and why I am an Xbox fan. I am mostly into shooters, action RPG's, sports and racing. Not so much with the JRPG's, fighting games and whimsy.

For me it's Bullets > Feels, lol.

It's good to have choices.

At this point, Microsoft has addressed every last single solitary complaint I've had since their pre-launch debacle.

I'll be getting an Xbox One as soon as a nice, affordable 1TB bundle comes out or, more optimistically, an Xbox One Slim (because the thing is gargantuan still).

But e-sports is a terrible concept. I'd rather play games, not watch others play them.

I wouldnt say its a terrible concept. E-Sports is popular. Go look at Dota 2 with its 17 million reward and its like 3m viewers on the first day of the TI tournament.

People like watching games. Even if you look at lets play games you can say the same thing when certain games got much of their popularity from them. Even the recent Ark: Survival Evolved can be associated with that.(Which btw im hoping is cross-platform for PC/XB)

However, they shouldnt stage something like that like they did with Halo 5 at gamescom.

I like how MS is appealing to different genres.

They have:

Halo FPS
GEARS and QB TPS
Scalebound Platinum RPG
Forza Motorsports track racer
Forza horizon open world racer
KI 1v1 fighter
HALO wars RTS
Crackdown open world action
Sea of Thieves MMO
ORI metrovania

MS needs to keep on pushing hard.

never would have figured so many people would get tripped up by an obvious spectator mode feature.

My apologies. My attention was being affected by the esports craze so I wasn't following closely. "Can he get the last kill?!" "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."
