Microsoft Gamescom 2015 Conference

Crackdown looked extremely underwhelming to me. Quantum Break is a day one purchase. I'm going to buy Scalebound for certain but that main character design is awful.

Halo is their premier exclusive though. It would be like Sony putting Uncharted on PC, or God of War.

Would be kinda cool, but I really don't think it will happen. Halo Wars 2 on PC is awesome though, and a natural fit being an RTS.

It's not the same though because Sony has no stake in PC. Windows 10 is Microsoft's flagship product. If Microsoft is going to say they're committed to PC gaming, then they need to prove it and not only release their B-tier games on the platform.

Really? Liked a lot Crackdown seems like it has all the quirks and personality of the first 2

You release exlusively on xbox, give xbox exclusive content or hit the road.

So you can't launch on X1 otherwise?

Tue developer couldn't have launched it alongside the PS4 version or just ignored the X1 altogether.

I'm no fan of the clause, but I'm not seeing how it factors into them getting timed exclusives.

That costs money.

Scalebound and Crackdown 3 both look really good. Kinda regret not getting the Xbox One during the last big sale. Think they'll do a sale that big before Halo 4 comes out? The current one with a year of live ain't bad, but not quite as good.

I'm fully expecting them to have the new 1TB MCC bundle for $350 with any two of the following included: extra controller, free games of your choice, 12 months Live

I'd like to get that bundle with a new release game and one of the new controllers.

Nah. All they have to do is make sure the platform is good for gaming.

I think alot of support is given when you go through ID@xbox, helping them secure a launch on at least one platform.

I know you get free dev kits and stuff. Probably some funding, etc.

I'm missing something, how does the parity clause allow MS to get timed exclusives?

I may be talking bollocks. Please ignore my ramblings.

I would imagine XBox One will be getting plenyt of deals this holiday, no doubt about it.

I may have gone overboard a little bit...

Good Lawd...what have U created? ....it's perfect!

Are there any of these games that we can consider potentially being at the top of their genre here?

That's all I really care about when I look at exclusives now because I don't have as much time to game as much and I try to play the best/most fun possible. If a game is a multiplat, especially for something like Witcher 3, I'll play it on my PC rather than PS4.

I'd say Halo and Forza are at or near the top of their respective genre.

I guess I was expecting it to be...different? It seems like the very same game I already played but with destruction. I always wanted Crackdown to become something like Tom Clancy's The Division but with super hero agents.

The clause is meant to prevent indies from releasing games later on the XBO. If you don't have the resources to release simultaneously on the PS4, PC, and XBO, you'd have to choose which to go first. There's nothing preventing you from releasing on the PS4/PC later on.

So is We Happy Few a Xbox console exclusive? I think it looked amazing. Very Bioshocky!

Overall a lot of good stuff in this conference, not all exclusive of course but still:

Quantum Break (Uncharted 4 notwithstanding, honestly didn't this look like some of the best third person shooting in years?)

Scalebound (Please this forum loves all platinum and I do too, the game is a year away, why are we so darn negative?)

Dark Souls 3 (Looks amazing, seems to be a mix of the original with some improvements from Bloodborne. Not exclusive, but since when does that make a conference less enjoyable?)

Tomb raider (The Tombs are back, Lara can swim, the gameplay is very much in line with TLoU and Uncharted)

+ Crackdown, Just Cause 3, Halo 5 (muted), Halo Wars 2, and We Happy Few - seems like a great show to me.

Do you think the 100% environment destruction will change the way you approach missions though?

I'm also intrigued by the ecosystem and wondering how deep the cause and effect will be across the network of gangs. I would love a Shadow of Mordor-like system where there are hierarchies in flux based on what the player does.

Sure, I get that, but that doesn't account for the First on Xbox tag. That implies timed exclusivity, which is usually a three/six month deal and that's not free.

+ Quantum Break: Impressive graphics. The premise is intriguing and gameplay mechanics look fairly interesting. Excellent pedigree in terms of casting (really hoping this comes to PC)
+ Scalebound:Graphics look great, dragon companion and multiplayer are big pluses. However, protagonist isn't very likeable and combat doesn't impress. Reserving judgement on the game
+ Backwards compatibility: Nicely implemented with GWG and a release date
+ Halo Wars 2: Nice surprise. Might be my first foray into Halo universe
- Indie segment: Did not captivate me (their E3 segment is way better imo)
- Few surprises: Was genuinely anticipating more surprises (didn't MS mention as many reveals at Gamescom as their E3?)

Indifferent about Halo 5, Forza 6, Crackdown 3 and DVR feature.
I'll wait on Rise of Tomb Raider. Segment on it is OK to me. Will prefer they show more adventuring/raiding.

Ultimately, the show did not convince me to get an Xbox One (already have a PS4 & Wii U). Pretty sure it made Xbox fans happy though, so I suppose that's a +.

Really glad I didn't stay home for work for this. Seems like nothing new was shown. No megatons / 10

Really poor timing being so close to e3. See why everyone else skips this.

Nope, just "first" on Xbox One by way of the Game Preview Program which is basically Xbox equivalent of STEAM early access. It's likely launchign day and date on PC/PS4, just not on PS4 early since they (as of right now) don't have a similar early access program.

Game is awesome by the way, played it at PAX East :)

You get essentially free timed exclusivity, if you have a clause that prevents small studios from releasing their games later on your platform. They have to release first on yours, if they want to have their game on all systems, but don't have the means to release simultaneously on them.

There was only one shooter in the conference, Halo 5.

Quite a few third person shooters too. I'm beginning to roll my eyes every time I see another game with plenty of conveniently placed waist high objects for the player to take cover behind.

To be fair, it's not exactly exclusive to Microsoft developed games, but I'm really becoming sick of it. Just wish someone would finally come up with something new that the entire gaming industry will no doubt copy for the next 10 years.

Thank god for indies, I suppose.

That's good to hear, as I was sceptical about it when I read it's from the makers of Contrast.

Very solid conference. GB looks so great, from gameplay to graphics to story. Most interesting and fun looking game of this generation this far.

Scalebound looked more interesting than I anticipated, I just hope we see more interaction between dragon and protag, I mean gameplaywise.

Much better presentation of Tomb raider, great to see how differently you can approach situations, seems like they made stealth much more viable this time. I hope tombs are challenging and have lots of variety.

Indie stuff looked great too, that quirky we happy few looked very interesting. So did Ark and that point'n'click game.

And MS seems to be really trying to market games with BC version of older title, wise move.

So solid conference with grew variety of different genres with very promising exclusives.

Yes, I imagine it would. Destruction just isn't the new gameplay element I was expecting. A SOM-esque system with the gangs like you mentioned would be pretty cool though.

I'd give this show an A. It had everything, easily.

Maybe the mods can add a poll for us to give this a grade, that would be cool.

I give this conference a rating of
Windows
10/10

Terrible puns aside, they started hard and lost track, should have spread out the first 3 games throughout the show.

Ending on Halo Wars 2 announcement was good, what's more surprising is that an Anon on /v/ said Creative Affinity was working on Halo Wars 2 a couple of days ago.

In terms of it being a Xbox and Windows exclusive, this is the type of games MS should make available on both platforms while leaving some of the big stuff exclusive only on Xbone, that way you keep both sides of gamers happy. It'll be tough for them moving forward and trying to find the right balance of exclusivity, but I have faith in them.

I just caught the replay. Solid conference.

I would give it 8/10, but that Halo e-sports thing was completely uncalled for and made me feel embarrassed for them.

7/10.
