New Final Fantasy XV screenshots

it looks pre-rendered and ass as phuck.
somehow it looks like a better ps3 game than a real ps4 game...

this game wont hit before fall 2016.

Are you f---ken kidding me? -sigh-
Is that hard to ask for a very sandboxy Final Fantasy that's like Skyrim/Witcher 3 in terms of open world, quest system, and story progression.

Looks ok, I guess. This game urgently needs a story trailer so I can actually feel invested in the adventure and want to explore those places. The screenshots do nothing for me because none of that means nothing to me, I'd be more excited with a new armiger move shown in a screenshot than any of these.

Ugh Lestallum looks so good. Same with the other two screens. I wonder if they'll allow us to go inside any of the buildings there kind of like the gas station in Duscae?

Really? I have some really amazing shots.
But remember Luminous lighting was also set for the original Versus engine as well.
Yeah, but a lot of my complaints have been fixed by the new additions in the DX11 client. Shadows saw a massive improvement which improved the appearance of the game a ton, IMO.

XIV has an amazing lighting system in the background, but it's not that much use when your polycount is low, you don't aim for a realistic look and thus barely use normal maps, microsurface/specular/glossiness maps. XIV is very artsy, with a distinct style that you either like or hate.

That would really suck, cities should feel quite different from each other.
We already know the cities will be completely different from each other. We have Tokyo, Venice and Havana so far as the bigger cities and there will be smaller villages as well that might have their own differences as well.

Could this be a knee-jerk reaction to the (deserved) bad reactions they got from their lackluster and anticlimatic Gamescom showing? Could it be Square Enix is actually listening?
Square Enix listens to the public a lot, I dunno where you have been if this is news to you. They still won't reveal the release date just because people are whining, as they already have plans for when the big release date reveal is going to be, but they are probably releasing a bit more information since the Gamescom stuff was underwhelming.

Didn't Tabata say it was not full open world?
It's not necessarily open world in the same way as GTA or Elder Scrolls are open world. You don't just start the game and go where ever you want. You might not have the full world open to you from the start, the story can kind of dictate some limits, especially early on (i.e. a bridge might be broken at some location until you do something, the car breaks down and the game doesn't let you advance too much further before you've fixed it and stuff like that), but it should open up as you get further along and there will always be vast areas like Episode Duscae's to explore. So it'll be like past FFs with world maps where you were on this somewhat linear path, but with some room for exploration, until at a certain point of the game you will have the full world open to you and then you can go (almost) where ever.

If I remember correctly, ARR is using the Luminous engine for the lighting (same engine as FFXV lol).

The Dawn trailer did that for me, somewhat. *shrug*

Let JRPGs be JRPGs and WRPGs be WRPGs

Mixing things up is fine.

I do agree that it doesn't make sense for Final Fantasy though, given that it's always been a story- and character-driven series, and open-world gameplay like Skyrim doesn't lend itself to telling a strong story.

Now if SE wanted to make a crazy Japanese open-world game like Skyrim, I wouldn't object, and would be interested to see what that looks like, but I don't think it'd make any sense to use the FF brand with it.

EDIT: To be fair, maybe having a section where it's up to you in which order you tackle certain dungeons spread over the whole world to get to the next story beat ala. some Zeldas would be cool. If all of those dungeons were on the same difficulty level monsters would have to be scaled somehow, though, so that they won't be too easy if you already cleared some of them already. That would be a good compromise between open-world-go-where-you-want and follow-story-but-explore-outside-the-path.

The IP is already there, all Square needs is make a big budget game out of it

Second screenshot: hopefully the game will give you a hint or a clue that there's something interesting around you. It's not like I'm going to stop and visit what looks like outisde like a normal forest.

Third screenshot: the architecture share something in common with FFVIII visual style, I like it.

that has me super excited.. im so curious I just want to look everywhere.

I absolutely love the visual aesthetic of this game, it looks like the real world but with the out of this world elements, something I loved about FF8 but taken further.

I applaud them for showing the game as it looks natively, instead of misleading people with supersampled shots.

But honestly I really will have to wait for PC. I just can't handle that aliasing and the general muddy IQ.

A decent idea

Hell no. As much as i like Witcher 3 or Skyrim, we don't need RPGs to be standardized.
(I mean, first thing I've done playing Witcher3 was to deactivate the whole right part of the HUD to play without a fucking GPS like a boss)

Yeah...I mean they're only on a different engine, different kind of game, animations, graphic etc...HOW HARD CAN IT BE??????????

I just hope that "open world" doesn't result in a story that seems like it's over before it's begun.

Supposedly, there was supposed to be a Vita game coming this year. But given that it's August and we've seen nothing so far ...
