Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

anyone here planning on killing Quiet to see how different the story will be?

I don't think I'll have it in me. I can be a bastard in games sometimes, but sometimes there are characters I just can't harm because I like them too much. I have a feeling this will be Quiet.

The fact they apparently recorded all of Skullface's dialogue in under 2 hours makes me feel like we really know absolutely jackshit about this game and it's story.

They recorded the whole MGS2 english V.O in 2 weeks, unlike the japanese version that apparently took almost a year to do (but then again perhaps they recorded as they wrote the script for the japanese version)

Don't approve posting stuff like this without spoiler tags :(

It's not really concrete since as was said in the post, there is already a buddy we know about that isn't accounted for in those achievements. For all we know there could be a way to get staff members to follow along or perhaps pull in Django through a wormhole.

that or he eats it early on in the game, and as the story unfolds big boss psyche gets effected and we learn more about skull face due to big boss hallucinating about him, and "talking" with him

really hope grey fox is a surprise buddy

Well no we most likely wouldn't get "Grey Fox", but...

The africa section of TPP falls in the timeline with the story Naomi tells in MGS1 of Frank finding her in Rhodesia as an orphan during the 80s before they were found by Big Boss. I would fully expect him to exist in TPP in some form, but before he was a cyborg ninja, Frank was a fairly normal (but very skilled) soldier. (The Null stuff in MGPO can be ignored)

Paz is a secret buddy and you find posters with her in various outfits that you can equip her with throughout the world. The one shown so far is the magical girl outfit which also comes with magical girl abilities.

Screencap this.

lol thats what i meant see him as frank but also maybe see big boss give frank the title of grey fox since it is a big honour

Seeing kaz meeting liquid is going to be interesting.

I am intriged to seeing what big boss does to piss off liquid, granted he will later find out he is the "recessive" one, I could see Zero feeding Liquid that so he kills big boss for him, liquid already is trying to kill him with a metal gear

The one unconfirmed character I'm really hoping we see is
Baby Otacon. He'll be three or four in 1984, and it'd just be so crazy to see Huey cuddling the toddler that's going to grow up to bang his wife and drive him to suicide :P

What would be amazing is if the suicide was a ruse and in the end it was zero/the patriots that killed him for aiding big boss again

The curious question is where's Strangelove in all of these.

An A.I pod is involved in TPP's story, judging by that one scene in the trailer. As of end of Peace Walker, she was still in MSF. And based off MGS2/4, we know damn well that whatever Zero's crazy plan in TPP is, it's pretty much the precursor to the A.I craziness that was Patriots A.I. of which Strangelove would be the ideal person to be the counter-perspective from BB's perspective.

Unless of course... she's dead. >_>

When did they decide to retcon the "Null" stuff?

When did they decide to retcon the "Null" stuff?

The Null stuff was a retcon in the first place, and it remains to be seen whether Portable Ops is even a canonical game any more. The only time anything from that game has ever been mentioned again was a quick line at the beginning of Peace Walker: "Now we can put all that San Hieronymo crap behind us".

That would actually be a beneficial change. That whole plot line was totally cringe worthy.

What's wrong with his plotline? He has a loving wife, a son, and a daughter! Is there anything more a man can ask for?

Does the gameplay demo this thread was made for ruin anything that would otherwise be a pleasant surprise? Not necesarily spoilers, just inclusions in the game which will have a lesser impact if I'm made aware of them before playing it.

I have an idea of most of the mechanics already and would like to watch it, so would like to know. Cheers :)

This demo doesn't really spoil any shocking new mechanics. It is amazing hype video for FOB which I wasn't really interested before seeing this video.

It does introduce few new cool items we haven't seen before.

That's a pretty big burn on whoever oversaw PO.

That Kojima keeps returning to Metal Gear Solid is a pretty big burn on everyone that he's been trying to nurture as his successor.

Especially considering the fact that Portable Ops was truer to its identity as a Metal Gear Solid game than Peace Walker, and was developed at least partially in parallel with MGS4 (so would have had far less man-power and a smaller development budget than Peace Walker). In everything but one aspect (
bringing back Sokolov
) it did a good job of telling part of Big Boss' story.

Then the only other opportunity his team got to prove their worthiness in taking over the franchise was a game in an entirely new genre to the studio, trying out an innovative gameplay mechanic which only had the problem of working too well (the 'cut' anything making level design difficult). Kojima didn't give that game 2 years before he pulled the rug from beneath his team's feet.

Kojima never wanted to let anyone else make Metal Gear Solid.

PO is not part of the Metal Gear saga according to Kojima.

"The games in the series that I personally designed and produced. Metal Gear on the MSX, Metal Gear 2, MGS1,2,3,4 and Peace Walker and now Metal Gear Solid V are what constitute a single Metal Gear saga. With Metal Gear Solid V I'm finally closing the loop on that saga. In that sense this will be the final Metal Gear Solid. Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, to me this is the last Metal Gear. "

Also PO has never been part of any official timeline. Before the whole drama with Kojima and Konami, Koji Pro had an official timeline on the Konami website which didnt include PO There is now also a new timeline on the Konami website, without PO as well. And on the promotional boxes of TPP the official timeline again excludes PO.

And in a more recent article by Japanese press who attented the MGSV bootcamp, they discussed the series' canon (focusing on the Big Boss story) and they excluded PO. The info on the canon was given by Koji Pro during the event.

I could not agree more. Rising could be explained away as having perfeclty valid reasons to switch development teams - but its the one-two punch of Kojima pretty much ignoring everything about Portable Ops except one line of dialogue which is pretty dismissive.

MGS3 is missing from that timeline thing.
