What if the Big Boss at the end of MGS4 isn't the actual Big Boss but this reconstruction/body double coming to terms with the other twisted piece of BB's legacy? I like the idea that BB has never expressed real human emotion or done anything heroic and that his legendary hero status is based on the sacrifices of better people. The real Big Boss is just a warmongering piece of shit who was killed by a can of hairspray.

The difference here ofc is that in MGS2 you bought the game thinking you'd play SS but soon found out you'd be playing as Raiden. In V (ofc considering that the rumors are real) you play the game thinking you are playing as BB, until the very end, when everything is revealed.

MGS2 is more complex and way smarter than this. In MGS2 everything and everyone play a role to accomplish that beautiful result.
In comparison, this Venom / BB is a noob attempt and just feels like a finger in the *** and it doesn't fit with the idea of Big Boss I have.

Ok, I'm really trying to avoid spoilers for this game but I wound up clicking on this link thinking it was the Gamescom demo thread and now I'd like some clarification otherwise it's going to kill me. I've got to the comments of the topic by peaking through my fingers, so I'm not sure what the spoiler policy is for the topic so I've tagged just in case and I'll apologise if every comment before mine if about this topic.

I only got a glimpse of a comment but it seemed to suggest that we're not playing as Big Boss in MGSV. By that I mean 'Big Boss' as presented in the game isn't the actual Big Boss/Naked Snake of MGS3/Peace Walker/Metal Gear 1/Metal Gear 2/MGS4 but it someone else who maybe thinks he's BB, or is perhaps impersonating him or some other nonsense. Can someone clarify if this is correct, or if it's just speculation based on the leaks?

A strict yes or no will suffice, please. I'd just like to say I'm only interested in knowing if 'Big Boss' as presented by the MGSV advertising isn't actually the real Big Boss. I don't want to know if the game has a secret protagonist ala MGS2, or any other details (like who he really is if not BB). I just want to know if Kojima has pulled some Scooby Doo 'Old Man Jenkins' bullshit with his last game and wasted it.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me. I'm not even certain that I want to know, so if you've answered and I don't respond it might just be I've chickened out and haven't read it. Thanks in advance.

This is going to have an effect on my first playthrough as I'm going to be as evil as possible. It's great to see that this backed up my theory that this was the breaking point between the real Big Boss and the evil villain in MGS canon.

Nobody has any idea but if the final boss is Mantis it could be everyone's theory of Mantis taking control of the Diamond Dogs soldiers because he snapped etc and it leads to you having to fight through some of Mother Base to confront Mantis/Metal Gear ST84 ala Peace Walker.
