I can't go with a guide that needs to "safely assume" Eli is Liquid. A guide should be more definitive than that.

I also don't think they are going to outright spoil either though. Wasn't this guide made alongside Kojima and Kojima productions? We could be right to be cautious on any story aspects lol

I think people confuse themselves sometimes when they hear about Venom Snake being a subject of LET and come to a conclusion that this means he must be a clone and therefore not Big Boss.

It doesn't mean that. Big Boss was the subject of LET too - they took his DNA without his permission. You don't have to be a clone to be the subject of LET; you can be the one they were trying to clone too.

Maybe that's simply how the game presents it. Like in FFVIII it's safe to assume Squall is Laguna's son. It never comes right out and says it, but the hints are huge enough that it can safely be accepted as fact. Unlike certain other FFVIII theories which are far more tenuous.

LMAO at how crazy all of this is getting. People are confusing themselves. I do wish Konami could just push up the release because no doubt shit will start getting spoiled by next weekend.

Without story context, without the tapes we're going off of a guide that probably isn't telling us the whole story.

This was from Jeux Magazine Review and translated from a reddit user :

-story telling takes the backseat. It feels like kojima is backstabbing us with this opaque, unclear, metaphorical story, which finds no closure, once again, a secrete ending exists.

- He say maybe there is a true end to unlock that could explain stuff to hardcore fans. And that the storyline still progress after the end.

-He think maybe Koijma is trolling us with the plot and only some select few will unlock the answers. Or maybe he just couldn't make it the last.

- but that MG game are built around their stories. And here after a magnificent start cut-scenes get sparse and the storyline is shady until the end. Even with the whole puzzle he had trouble getting what this was all about.

Reposting for new page:

"At the end of The Phantom Pain, the epidemic of a mutated strand of the vocal cords parasite aboard Mother Base forces Big Boss to exterminate his soldiers to prevent a global catastrophe. Even if he takes on this responsibility without any apparent remorse, it's impossible to ignore the signals that reveal that this events have contributed to unleash his "inner demon".

Maybe the events of The Phantom Pain have brought Big Boss down the road that transforms him into the "oni" of this event. Maybe it is necessary for Solid Snake to defeat him, ending the Patriot's story. Even if that's the case, this is not a traditional, dramatic transformation: Big Boss becomes the antagonist gradually, slowly consumed by what happens to him until all that is left is his obsession.

He is more determined than ever to reinforce his troops, with the aim of forming a nation free from the governments' hegemony, a dream he will be on the verge of realising in the 90s."

I thought about that, but then again this is metal gear, where Information gets beaten into your head. The last MGS mind you.

Seems like they're speculating in the guide, and clearly haven't seen Fight Club.

My guess is that no one knows who Ishmael is. The guide isn't definitive.

They are to a degree. As the banner says, at the request of Kojima/Konami, none of that is directly revealed. We aren't even told the stipulations for getting the mission that unveils Ishmael's true identity. I just hope it's not as stupid as what Peace Walker pulled.

Once the game has been out for a while, the people out there with more than two brain cells to rub together (SuperBunnyhop?) will be able to tell the rest of us morons (Jeux Magazine critic?) what it all meant and why it's so awesome.

Maybe the guide doesn't know because (as it's stated in an above comment from a French game review) the story is unclear. Maybe there is no closure and nothing is really explained....

Let's all take a moment to remember how MGS2 ended.

According to reddit, apparently it's just an additional mission after the credits roll. And the guide has a QR code to scan to bring up the walkthrough for the final mission. The link isn't live yet, which makes me continue to believe that no one knows who Ishmael is.

Ah, yeah, there's that. I'm convinced it's just going to be Hideo Kojima, the MVP from PW and GZ.

I don't buy it. I especially have no faith towards that French magazine; out of all the media publications, they were the only ones to be negative.

Maybe the guide doesn't know because the answer is in the "secret ending" which at this point nobody outside KP/Konami has seen. The people who did the guide had to work off the same "ending-less" version of the game reviewers got.

While this is all possible I'll wait until I play the game. GZ has a good story but the tapes just fleshed out so much of it.

I would throw my controller through the tv, then my console out the window.

Maybe the real ending is locked like on-disc DLC. They will unlock it with a day 1 patch, which is leaving reviewers confused as hell.

Maybe, I think it's more likely to be locked away in sub-missions a la Peace Walker though.

Edited my post because I didn't read your post properly, sorry.

True that MGS2 was supposed to not really have everything explained. But Kojima HAS been building this up as the end. Saying everything will be explained.

That still is not a valid reason lol. I'll never blame anyone for hating on MGS because of the story and confusion it brings.

Every fan should be sympathetic actually.
I just don't trust them, I understand how shallow my reasoning is, but there's a bad feeling I get from them. Just to be clear, it's not them being negative, it's that they're the only ones to be negative within a sea of positives. We've already had Twitter users (video game loser) disagree with their story assessments.

"The more attentive readers will have noticed how mission 46 is missing from the list. It does exist, but the player has to fulfill very specific conditions to take it on.

Konami has expressly asked not to reveal how to unlock the mission, nor details on its content. However, we will gradually supply information and updates online as they become available. Go to www.piggyback.com/it/mgsv to know more or use the QR code."

Yeah I can understand that. You need a bigger sample pool to make a fair judgement as a consumer even though you ultimately won't know til you play yourself.

Well, there ya go. "Konami has expressly asked not to reveal [...] details on its content."

What if Venom Snake IS Chico.

mother. of. god.

can-t-believe-it-o.gif

So, is the Joy Division and Holly stuff bullshit then? If so, it's a pity, because they sounded great and very much like Kojima-isms.

Pretty sure Venom Snake is just a name for Big Boss. This clone business is too much. Are we certain that this is accurate?

Also totally called the bit where he has to wipe out his own army. Disappointed that's at the end, but expected as much. They showed it off in like the second trailer.

I love this thread. It's almost impossible to be truly spoiled because of the amount of fake spoilers and misdirects there are in this thread. I clearly don't have the restraint needed to avoid spoilers so this works for me

Right? This is the most ambiguous spoiler thread I've seen. Honestly, its making me ever more excited to play the game to see what is true and what is not from everything we've read and seen.
