Any word on Nena's 99 Red Balloons / Luftballoons appearing in the game?
Needs to be played while fulton'ing everything

Ninety-nine decision street
Ninety-nine ministers meet
To worry, worry, super scurry
Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it, boys, this is war
The president is on the line
As ninety-nine red balloons go by

Ninety-nine knights of the air
Ride super high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a super hero
Everyone's a captain kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify and classify
Scramble in the summer sky
Ninety-nine red balloons go by.

I mean it's so perfect that it should be in the game to begin with, I must feel the dumbness of Metal Gear to this song.

Well Kojima would obviously include the vastly superior german version if he included the song.

He could include both for all we know. It could fit with all the "Venom Snake isn't Big Boss" speculation if you get the English version early on and then unlock the original German version when you finally meet the real Big Boss.

The thing that gets me about how unlikely Hayter doing any voicing in this game is, is that the plot really would line up incredibly well with a big "SURPRISE IT'S DAVID HAYTER" moment.

I hate to bring up the subject again because it's pretty tired, but it feels like such a missed opportunity if the plot is going to go down the way it's looking like with the big Fake Snake twist, because I really don't believe he's gonna show up in any way.

(and honestly even if they wanted to replace him they should've at least had him cameo as a random NPC or something just for fun)

who knows there might still be a small flash forward or a easter egg where we play a bit of metal gear 1.
it would actually surprise me if there are no missions that replicate it like the deja vu mission but for metal gear 1 and 2
i already saw a scan/picture where we play as raiden again in afghanistan/afrika

I feel like no non-canon Extra Ops thing (ala MH missions from Peace Walker) with Hayter Snake vs Big Boss would be a missed opportunity for some, even if he's basically a palette swap of BB with combat barks from past MGS games and the odd line here or there.

It'd be fan service y but wth.

Hayter fans are gonna be mad when the 20 minute ending cutscene is literally Kiefer talking to Kiefer

This is why I said yesterday that I'd like Big Boss to casually walk up and shoot Venom in the head. It's a bold visual statement without the need for the two of them to interact with words.

Exactly, but my biggest fear is that Venom is actually Gray Fox, and Big Boss can't kill him. They'd be walking and talking into the sunset together lmao

Do we know how side mission work ? Do we start them in a mission select list or we gotta stumble on them in the field ? Assuming they're worth to do story wise I wish they're simple to find because looking around for all 157 will be tiresome.

They'll most likely be listed but you can also come across them while roaming and start them that way.

I think you can select some in a list and stumble across some. I mean very few critical path missions take your back to MB automatically (as I understand it) so you could complete that mission "A Hero's Journey" then wander around, find things to do, or do more missions etc. I think more will unlock sort of like Peace Walker in that some were unlocked with every main story mission and some side missions unlocked more, but there will be random stuff for sure.

God it's so gonna happen and I'm gonna laugh real hard. I feel like it wouldn't even be the first time an actor has talked to themselves through two different characters in this series but nothing's grabbing me. It has to have happened, right?

I'm no particular Hayter fan, I don't really have any significant emotional investment in the series (every installment in the franchise I've played, I've done so years after the fact) and nothing about MGS5 is really standing out and grabbing me, I have no interest in playing it and I'm not a big fan of some of the choices Ground Zeroes and this have both made. I literally only care just enough to want to read a spoiler thread and find out how stupid it gets.

But it's also killing me because a bunch of my friends ARE getting the game so I can't really talk about this plot with anyone. Unsubstantiated or otherwise, the idea of a plot point involving the erasure the English language with a fucking parasite isn't something I can keep to myself.

Not saying this gonna happen, probably won't, but would it be possible, technically speaking, for Konami to release a patch that replaces the Medic's voice in everyone's copy of Ground Zeroes?

Again, not saying there's the remotest chance of it happening, just a brainfart ;)

Probably not, but i can imagine Konami removing song tape just like R* a couple years later after their license run out.

It's nanomachine, son.

I'm just asking if it was technically possible, not it if it's actually gonna happen or not.

Seeing as Bioware completely changed the ending of Mass Effect 3, I imagine it is :-)

edit: sorry, that was mean.

All the negativity around MGS lately is really getting to me. Why do people come into threads about games they don't like just to shit on it?

Ups, sorry. But yes, i think it is possible if they want it. There are several method to do it.

It's technically possible, but to what extent/in what fashion?

Just to be clear I'm even taking this seriously myself, just devil's advocating/brain-farting.

However, if Kojima was so inclined, technically speaking, he could replace Keifer's altered Medic voice with David Hayter's in Ground Zeroes though a patch released on September 1st.

In preparation for V, i started watching Peace Walker movie on Youtube (Played the remaster on PS3, never finished it though). I really can see why Kojima changed Hayter. It is really his worst performance. And then watched a video where they compared his voice through the series. His performance is worse with each game.

From this: MGS Codec Call After The Torture Scene

To a terrible Peace Walker performance: Peace Walker The Movie

I really like Hayter but its just sad... And after watching that codec call, now i wanna replay the original MGS..

So....nothing majorly new but it just occurred to me how Solidus' life paralleled Big Boss.

If we pretend, for sake of argument, that the player character in TPP is not Big Boss and either Solidus/Jaeger/NoName then it'd be similar to how Solidus planned to use Dead Cell and Arsenal Gear to hold the Patriots attention while he used info from GW to hunt them down which would be an analogue to the idea of BB manipulating the player character to hold The Patriots attention while he works from the shadows and he'd also have his plans scuppered by a third party in the way Liquid Ocelot did for Solidus and Skull Face does with the Proto Nanomachines in TPP.

He was also created to be their icon, serving for a single term as the 43rd Prez and while working with them he manipulated an insurrection from the shadows like how Sears instigated Shadow Moses and Big Shell and BB being in command of FOXHOUND while building Outer Heaven only to ultimately fall at the hands of a wayward son in Solid Snake (BB) or Raiden/Jack (Solidus).

Just thought it interesting with the amount of possible parallels we've uncovered.

Edit: Also Soldier is derived from Solidus and Solidus is I think Latin or Roman for gold coins...making Solidus (and by extension BB) the Golden Soldier....

What with all the jokes about poetry and George Lucas and Star Wars writing, has there been any actual reverence from Kojima towards Star Wars? The only references I remember come from English-language adaptations like Snake going "Great shot, kid! That was one in a million!" in the MGS2 comic.

All these spoilers are making me so fucking excited to play the game :lol. I need to see how it all plays out in context

MGS4 really messed up his voice, MGS1 Snake sounds much more subdued, like the Japanese version (Which I feel like Keifer measures up to pretty well) But I really liked the extra gruffness in MGS2 and 3 just fine, I almost prefer it.

4 it became a problem, BUT since he was Old Snake, I felt that it worked.

However that voice from 4 carried into Peace Walker and then I felt like it was too much, it was definitely not his best performance.

The worst bit is probably his Outer Heaven speech, after the real ending.

Especially if you compare it to the Japanese version.

Now that's a speech that grabs your attention. And it really does sound like a big speech on stage.

Hayter is just reading the script with a forced voice and some echo filter thrown on top, it's incredibly lazy.

I think the blame should be towards the Voice Director. Hayter gets a lot of shit, but there is a director with him that can tell him, "do it this way", "sound less gurgling".
I understand what David Hayter was trying to achieve with the character. Solid Snake is a smoker and a war vet, and not to mention he's 70-something years of age in MGS4.
With Peacwalker, I saw it as the transition from "Snake" to the villain "Big Boss"... His "Cobra Commander" voice, if you wish.

Saying all that, my favorite is indeed PS1's MGS. Also, the voice acting in MGS1 is so strong, it's never surpassed and reached again in the series. I also LIKE his "OuterHeaven" speech. He's the only one in the whole series that doesn't come off as campy because of his voice and delivery.

It really is on the voice director.
Solid 1 voice was perfection,
2 was fine,
3 they told him to start screwing with it to make Naked a bit different and "more innocent"
4 Old Snake just flat out sucked in every aspect, trying to sound like a guy falling apart it did fit
Peace Walker they told him to go back to 3's voice but age it up alot with less innocence.

His best voice isn't even far off from his regular voice.
