....
.... what

Please no.. don't.. Tell me this is fake.
Seriously, I don't even.. This comes out from nowhere and I couldn't be more pissed. The most beautiful and interesting characters in the whole saga, the Emotions themself that a Naked Snake defeated one by one in order to become the great and feared Big Boss, are now a stupid experiment? It was such a good metaphor and now it's meaningless. Leave that masterpiece of MGS3 alone, PLEASE.

MGS3 is still MGS3, it doesn't matter what comes before or after. Sequels, Prequels and Remakes can never destroy the original thing we loved. Remember that.

From the previous "supernatural" mysteries of the series, only Vamp's fast-healing ability was explained through "science". His other abilities like super speed or walking on water were not explained.

Fortune's power are still unexplained.

FOXHOUND member's special abilities are still unexplained.

Mantis is still a psychic, hell, his supernatural ghost appeared in the game. No other supernatural case was explained through nanomachines in MGS4 (Remember, even the MGS4 database acknowledges that Ocelot was truly possesed by Liquid in MGS2). For some reason, some people have this agenda against MGS4 and blame it for "explaining all supernatural in the series with nanomachines", which is not even remotely true.

Basically, it was only Vamp's immortality. That's it.
IIRC, Vamp's water/wallrunning was explained in MGS4 when you call Otacon while fighting the Frogs -- Vanderwaal force or some shit.

^^^
While not specifically stated, I felt the Vanderwaal stuff was just put in there to explain everything else about Vamp.

Who knows though.
I think it means that during your first playthrough, once you complete a side-op it will then be considered completed and can't be replayed.

Then, once you complete the final story mission, all side-ops will then be unlocked and selectable, to be replayed whenever you wish.

I don't know. Van der Waals force is a very specific thing. It could explain Vamp and the Frog's sticking to walls, but it definitely doesn't explain something like this:

mgs2_36_9f7.jpg

Or Vamp's superhuman speed. Or his ability to "read" muscle movement. Or that red aura that made him invincible for a period of time. Or his "hypnosis" ability that let him immovilize people by binding their shadows...

Since those abilities are left unexplained, we can only assume they were supernatural.

I hope it's an updated model, so sick of that PS1 model now. Especially the face, I wanna see in full HD glory what Solid Snakes face looks like in MGS1

I love all the "supernatural" stuff being explained.

I'll never, ever understand the hate for the nanomachines, and now parasite, stuff. Is it just because so many fans want to leave stuff up to their own imaginations and not have an explanation for everything? Or do they genuinely just hate the explanations?

For me, I like having a story told to me... that's why it's a story. Plus, it has more to do with the fact that I don't really like the supernatural stuff as much as I like science fiction, rather than the fact I may just be "lacking imagination."

Lastly, I don't think the science-fiction explanation has really diminished anything with reference to these characters. You're telling me that these characters were more interesting when you thought they were just randomly supernatural when compared to having an actual explanation as to why they have these abilities? Regardless of the explanation they still have these abilities, so I don't understand the outcry about this stuff.

The Cobra Unit are now science? Like everyone in the Solid Snake saga post-MGS4?

KOJIMA ACTUALLY DID IT THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN.

Parasites are the new nanomachines.

I await the Metal Gear Rising prequel/sequel starring Grey Fox battling a Senator who yells "Parasites, son!"

Did he give the Sorrow the ability to communicate with the dead too?
My question is how does Snake wade through the dead "against" Sorrow? Is this not a supernatural occurance? Was he infected with the parasite?

From reddit:
This analysis of ‪#‎MGSVTPP‬ from Spazio Games (Italian) reveals the game has 3 endings to complete the full story.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=egt0or4pfZw

He says that only watching the basic ending could make the player feel disappointed. The second ending still feels like 'something is missing'. The third ending ties everything together and is very satisfying.

That sounds great to me. Reminds me on how he handled it on PW.

The helicopter pilot in mission 1 refers to you as Ahab.

But that could just be another Moby Dick reference, The Helicopter is named Pequod, and Ahab was the Captain of that ship in Moby Dick.

I must be a terrible metal gear fan because I don't even know who Ahab is. A random dude from GZ?

Moby Dick reference, like Ishmael and Pequod. so no, you're not a terrible fan. IIRC they are only mentioned in Phantom Pain and no other MGS game.

Yes but isn't that strange compared to Snake or Boss like Miller. It felt really strange. The way the flashback in mission 2 was arranged was really strange too. How did Ahab know that Skullface says "Give my regards to your boss when you get home." He also remembers Chico saying "Help me Snake." and Paz saying "Chico." despite us not seeing that in GZ, and the shot from the gdc trailer shows up as well. Some shenanigans are at play.

Mhh i tought of the Flashback in Mission 2 as a recap for the player, and not as "memories" or something of Snake.

To be precise they didn't say that there are 3 different endings, but that they are part of the same storyline and are seen one after the other.
The first one marks the end of the first part of the game, the second (the one that some reviewers got as the "real" one) marks the end of the Skulls storyline and the third is the "secret" one that must be unlocked.

So only the third one is the ending, the other 2 are just a sort of "chapter ending"!

Yeah, me too actually. I love to see supernatural things being explained in my games.
And yeah, probably that's the reason. Some people have that mindset: "Have restraint! Don't explain everything! Make mysteries!"-bullshit

so we dont necessarly even know how to unlock anything except ending 1. The guide doesnt even have Ending 2 or 3 unlocks. interesting

Venom Snake = Chico?

Oh is somebody arguing that all the supernatural stuff in mgs had an explanation? Sorry but unless you consider the sorrows ability to communicate with the dead and exist as a ghost or that crow dude from the first game talking to snake after he's dead somehow scientifically explainable then yeah... There is simply just unexplainable supernatural shit in these games. Hope that helps.

MGS4 didn't explain these, sure... it just pretended they didn't exist.

Nanomachines as a catch-all explanation for nearly every single plot thread after they were only an extremely minor part of the overall plot is bad writing. Nothing more, nothing less. People don't enjoy it because it's perfunctory nonsense.

I find it absolutely hilarious that Kojima is continuing his shitty pseudo-science shtick with the parasites. He's become a hack when it comes to story. At least the game itself will more than make up for it.

I like things being explained as long as they're explained well. I don't like things that were "never meant to have an explanation" suddenly being given the most ridiculous explanation imaginable. It cheapens everything.

Quiet spoiler from Burns review

So far the explanation for Quiet's lack of clothes is laughable (it involves, of course, photosynthesis – she can't 'breathe' with clothes on) and cheapens the story, as do the frequent butt shots of her and other women, including a member of a Borg-like undead sniper team. Then there's the mystical tribal leader with magical powers...it's crap, and barring some stunning late-game about-face should have been excised or changed long before it got into the final game.

#teamnotashamed
Unsurprisingly a shitty explanation

Well, the reviewer called them "endings", but the first one is basically a long cutscene (that he calls "an actual ending" since it ends the first part of the game), IMHO the real ending is just one, the secret one, while the others are just plotlines endings... but who knows!

Man reading all the spoilers revealed so far I'm quite thankful there's less story than the previous MGS games because what is said about it (implying that it's true) sounds even worse than MGS4.

Thankfully the gameplay sounds like it's going be kick-ass barring a few issues here and there.. kind of iffy on not being able to replay side ops and judging from Ground Zeroes the way alert functions seems like a downgrade from what it was like in MGS1-3.. really not a fan of reflex mode.

Iirc the "help me snake" was on one of the briefing tapes.
You're right.

He did it again in this video too:

;-)
Yea he did.

You can turn reflex mode off.

probably the suit with the big D on the back that we have seen in recent gameplay videos

Has it been confirmed that you can change his hair style?

I thought I saw a vid with his classic bandana on and one where he had no bandana, but mgs3 hair. I can't stand the pony tail thing.

Special things like the bandana probably give you a different hair style.

You can turn reflex mode off.
Doesn't actually fix the problem :P

The problem I find is that as soon as you alert a guard in MGSV/GZ it pretty much goes to full alert.. previous MGS games allowed you to do things like shoot the radio etc to avoid that when that occurs. The only way to fix that is to turn on reflex mode.

The word on the street is that the Sorrow's ability will be explained as a nano parasite. Some sort of mutation, along with the other Cobra members.

I want to use ground zeroes hair or the bandana.

The pony tail isnt as awful as old snake's mustache, but it's close.
Yea no idea if we'll actually be able to change it manually or if it's specific to special costumes like the sneaking suit.

Yea I hate that as well.

That still wouldn't make Sorrows abilities suddenly not supernatural in nature, it just explains how they got unlocked/where they come from.

I was under the impression you could replay all missions including side ops.
