One thing that I will say, amongst this ending, is that it shows that Zero (and presumably all of the other Patriots by proxy) really didn't just go crazy mad or anything, since he's still willing to help BB simply because he still cares about it. Shows that the process of corruption was a gradual process and they still had their humanity that we came to love about them in the original game. Wish we had the chance to see all of the old crew at least one more time, though, and not just Zero.

I think the twist is pretty good xD For an entire series being built from a single game back in 1987, I was always amazed by the insane story plots. Also, this way our beloved hero doesn't get killed by a can of hairspray.

I dunno. Maybe it's just me.
No, BB still gets incinerated by a hairspray flamethrower. That's MG2.

To me this just makes some lines more impactful at the end of MGS4 where Big Boss talks about how the Snakes tore the world apart.

There's a lot of things I'd call Kojima as a storyteller.

Hack is not one of them. I don't think people really understand what that word means. No one who puts this much crazy ass thought into any storyline can be a real hack.

"some dude idk"

So the spoilers still sound like Big Boss is planning everything and thus responsible for Venom's actions...

But man, can you imagine if Kojima stayed on at Konami? In MGS6, you learn that in Metal Gear 2, The Blessed and Merciful St. Big Boss's actions were actually part of an elaborate scheme to cure cancer and world hunger.

There is no thought. A twelve year old could think of these exact plot points, except they'd still probably produce something better.

He went off the deep end after MGS3.

Big Boss is wearing a glass eye, this is why his right eye is intact.
What? A theory direct from this thread.

It was Zero's idea to keep Big Boss and the Medic hidden, this is why they’re on a British Air Force in Cyprus. It was also his idea to create a body double for Big Boss, as a lot people want him dead.
This is because Zero, through a tape near the end of the game, reveals that he still cares for Big Boss.
Kaz and Ocelot are in on the ruse and are intentionally misleading Punished “Venom” Snake/The Medic/Ahab/The Phantom.
Lol really? Zero sent a fucking army and Quiet to kill Big Boss, we literally just saw it right therein the stream. This reeks of bullshit.

The real Big Boss, Kaz, Ocelot and Zero have also created another Big Boss because, as much at the world wants him dead
Which one is it? The medic with facial reconstruction or a clone? Or is there two doppelgänger stunning about? This also reeks of bullshit.
My source has played Mission 46 and confirmed that by time you get around Mission 40, the “repeat” story missions at harder difficulties are unlocked, a few at a time. When you finish enough of these unlocked missions, Mission 46 becomes available.
This was just a guess by a member of press based on everyone questioning whether anybody knew how to unlock it. His guess was made based on Peace Walkers take on unlocking the real ending.

Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom finds out the truth by listening to the tape labelled “From the Man Who Sold the World” that was shown in The Phantom Pain’s E3 2015 trailer.
The Medic was just an ordinary solider from Foxhound who got facial surgery to look like Big Boss. He is not Grey Fox, Decoy Octopus, Solidus Snake or any other previously established character.
What? So the man was forced to commit atrocities which made him go insane but carried on doing it and created Outer Heaven? Fucking bullshit. Your mans pic below says it was Big Boss who created OH.

I know for a fact this pic is fake based on the fact that it uses the old OH symbol in the background from the MSX games. Kojima got rid of the old one for a reason. It was racist, it had a fucking Nazi sign on it.

Big Boss was secretly the big hero after all. That's why he threaten to blow up the entire world with nukes and giant mechs(that are actually less advanced than the mechs from 25 years ago). Because he wanted to help his son Snake. Well not really his Son since he's just some guy and not really Big Boss(or is he?), but the idea holds water.

I mean he is still the villain of MGS2 rofl. We are saved from that getting retconned hahaha

i agree. and i just realize the first picture look like something from Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae.

Love it or hate it, it's at least thematically correct with the series when it comes to the topic of persuasion. Raiden had VR training and was on par with the legendary SS, and this is merely a precursor to artificial training seen in 2 and 4.

And I don't know why you guys think BB isn't a monster just because he didn't put the blood on his hands himself literally. Dude still concocted a plan to make one of his own soldiers live a lie for god knows how many years, build up a base from the ground up, and then get told he's just a false impersonator, and then has to kill his damn men, the only bond he ever knew, just because BB has people at his throat. BB is a damn monster, and only made more with this move.

In a sense, it's like being Raiden again, albeit with far more interaction. Instead of being a fly on the wall with some inclusion towards the end, you are down in the dirt, living a lie with Ahab. Before, you watched your idol be all cool and do a neat handshake with Octocon, and in this game, he turns you into an idol of destruction.

I get that people aren't going to gel with the idea, but I love it.

If true, I'm not even mad. Perhaps playing the game, in the proper conext will alleviate a bit of the weirdness or make it more understandable. Because that shit's crazy.

Jesus was a clone of Big Boss, our true lord and savior.

Hideo Kojima is undoubtedly the greatest hack in all of gaming. Ever.

He doesn't deserve any credit for this game. I'm giving all the credit to the people that put their hearts and souls into perfecting every animation, every soundtrack, the coding, the visuals.

Well this is just nonsense. I can see where you're wanting this to go, so I'll just agree to disagree.

This story is nonsense.

"Let's hype up major themes about revenge and the path to evil and atroc--- nevermind it's just some other guy pretending to be that guy. Main guy isn't evil after all everything is black and white."

This is not a good plot.

I fucking called Kojima being a hack after MGS4 and nobody believed me.

HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW

That you're really bitter? :P

That said...this does seem kinda ridiculous, even for Metal Gear. Having only player the original MG games once I don't have any real nostalgia for them etc but I don't get the point of having to retcon them like this.

I quite like the idea that Zero wasn't off the deep end evil and still cared for Big Boss but it does make me laugh a bit that it ultimately means that the Patriots were only antagonists by proxy for the rest of the series and it was really AI. It does answer the question of why Big Boss went back to FOXHOUND in any event, although in an unexpected manner.

I can now understand why Kojima said that he'd have to remake MG1 and 2 to keep in line with MGSV's story. The idea that the Big Boss of MG1 (and 2?) was actually the puppet Big Boss who felt like Big Boss betrayed his own ideals (?)...I mean...I get it but...yeah. It's twists that didn't need to happen and I still don't get what ultimate question it answers. That Big Boss was never quite as evil as we were led to believe? Eh. MGS2 and 3 are my favourites in the series for story and that way they shall remain.

At least the gameplay looks great.

PUNISHED “VENOM” SNAKE/BIG BOSS

  • My source has confirmed that we play as the Medic from Ground Zeroes who is unwittingly serving as a double for Big Boss. He is referred to as Punished “Venom” Snake and Ahab thoughout the game and then “The Phantom” by the end.
  • In Metal Gear (the 1987 MSX game), Big Boss orders Solid Snake to Outer Heaven, but this is actually so Solid Snake can kill Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom, who is still acting under the guise of Big Boss. This is revealed during the traditional scrolling timeline that features at the end of the Metal Gear Solid games, which my source has also proved an image of:
PKk8X1X.jpg

  • Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom finds out the truth by listening to the tape labelled “From the Man Who Sold the World” that was shown in The Phantom Pain’s E3 2015 trailer.
  • The Medic was just an ordinary solider from Foxhound who got facial surgery to look like Big Boss. He is not Grey Fox, Decoy Octopus, Solidus Snake or any other previously established character.
  • The guide also strongly suggests through clues that the Medic from Ground Zeroes is the version of Big Boss who awakens from the coma in the hospital.
  • The guide notes that Big Boss and the Medic have similar voices, so he is a strong candidate for being the version of Big Boss/Ahab that awakens from the coma in hospital.
  • The guide continues by saying that in Ground Zeroes, the Medic is one of Big Boss' "most trusted men".
  • The guide also says that the Big Boss we see on the operating table in the "Don't you die on me dammit!" scene from the trailers does not have shrapnel in his head. The guide suggests that the Medic is the person to most likely have the shrapnel in his head, while also being the same hospital room, as he protected Big Boss from the Paz's bomb blast in the chopper in Ground Zeroes.
  • Huey is not sure of Big Boss/Ahab's identity when he first meets him.
  • The guide says that the version of Big Boss/Ahab that awakens from the coma in hospital has a DNA test done with Eli. Their DNA does not match. The guide goes on to state that since Eli is a clone of the real Big Boss, their DNA should match. The guides says this again gives a glue to Ahab's identity.
  • The guide notes that when Eli asks Ocelot where his father is, Ocelot replies that "Your father isn't here". This is despite the fact that Ahab is watching their conversation behind a two-way mirror.
ISHMAEL

  • My source has confirmed that the real Big Boss is Ishmael. He goes into hiding after the attack on Motherbase in Ground Zeroes, while Punished “Venom” Snake/The Medic/Ahab/The Phantom helps Big Boss spread his legend.
  • Big Boss is wearing a glass eye, this is why his right eye is intact.
  • It was Zero's idea to keep Big Boss and the Medic hidden, this is why they’re on a British Air Force in Cyprus. It was also his idea to create a body double for Big Boss, as a lot people want him dead.
  • This is because Zero, through a tape near the end of the game, reveals that he still cares for Big Boss.
  • Kaz and Ocelot are in on the ruse and are intentionally misleading Punished “Venom” Snake/The Medic/Ahab/The Phantom.
  • The real Big Boss, Kaz, Ocelot and Zero have also created another Big Boss because, as much at the world wants him dead, the world also still needs a legend such as Big Boss.
  • The guide on the other hand, doesn't definitely say who Ishmeal is. Konami and Kojima Production asked Piggyback, the creators of the guide, not to reveal it. Ishmael's identity is revealed in an optional mission after the main story has ended.
  • The guide does however, go over some fan theories and gives clues towards the true identity of Ishmael.
  • The guide discusses the theory that Ishmael is imaginary. It says that this can't be the case as Quiet sees Ishmael when she comes to assassinate the version of Big Boss/Ahab that awakens from the coma in the hospital.
  • The guides further states that as Big Boss/Ahab is sat in the left-hand seat of the right-hand driven ambulance that's used to escape the hospital, Ishamel must be real.
  • However, Ishmael suddenly disappears when the ambulance crashes. Ocelot rescues Big Boss/Ahab from the ambulance after the crash. Big Boss/Ahab asks Ocelet who Ishmael was, but Ocelot deliberately ignores the question.
  • The guide says that the fact that there are "The Star of Bethlehem" lilies in the Ishmael's and Big Boss/Ahab's room is a strong clue to the real identity of Ishmael. The guide also states that these lilies hold a significance to The Boss.
  • When Ahab sees the ghost of Paz the first time at Mother Base, he has an hallucination where there are clearly two versions of Big Boss on the chopper.
THE FIRST ENDING

  • The guide states that at the end of The Phantom Pain, the parasite that mutates peoples' vocal chords infects Mother Base. This forces Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom, while still acting as body double as Big Boss, to exterminate his soldiers to prevent a global catastrophe.
  • The guide continues by saying that although Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom takes on this responsibility without any apparent remorse, it's impossible from him to ignore the fact that he has contributed to these events. This causes him to unleash his "inner demon".
  • The guide states Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom becomes the antagonist gradually, slowly consumed by what happens to him until all that is left is his obsession.
  • After these events, Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom is more determined than ever to reinforce his troops, with the aim of forming a nation free from the governments' hegemony, a dream he will be on the verge of realising in the 1990's.
  • This leads to Punished “Venom” Snake/Ahab/The Phantom, while still under the guise of Big Boss. to create Outer Heaven.
THE LOCKED MISSION/MISSION 46

  • My source has played Mission 46 and confirmed that by time you get around Mission 40, the “repeat” story missions at harder difficulties are unlocked, a few at a time. When you finish enough of these unlocked missions, Mission 46 becomes available.
  • Mission 46 is a replay of the hospital Prologue, but it reveals what actually happened to Ishmael/Big Boss. This is the mission that the source's supplied picture is taken from.
  • Mission 46 reveals that the real Big Boss has no horn and no scars, the same as the leaked “Truth: The Man Who Sold the World Xbox achievement picture: http://www.xboxachievements.com/gam...m-pain-xbox-one/achievement/104228-Truth.html
  • Mission 46 is missing from from the guide, as Konami asked Piggy Back to not to reveal how to unlock the mission or detail it's content. However, Piggy Back state that they will gradually supply information and updates online as they become available. The website will be www.piggyback.com/it/mgsv or the player can use a Quick Response code.

so I am actually okay with this. Sounds awesome imo. My question is though, isn't there 3 endings as someone stated earlier?
one is when SkullFace dies
two is ????
three is this one?

I fucking called Kojima being a hack after MGS4 and nobody believed me.

HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW

People seemed to call him that after seemingly every Metal Gear Solid game.
MGS2 : What is this bullshit i can't play as snake??? Ghosts in the walls of the white house yada yada
MGS3:Oh YEAH shove some made up back story about the boss and her importance to the entire series down our throat why don't you
MGS4: NANOMACHINES ,FEATURE LENGTH CUTSCENES

Admit it, you guys have all been following this 'ruse' of batshit insanity from the beginning.
The truth of the matter is that everything is Anime. You can't hide from the truth.

I can not pretend to have standards to begin with, so this fits my vision of the series perfectly :P

I thought the last game in the series with a decent story was Portable Ops, making MGS3 the last one with a story I loved. Then MGS4 shit the bed and since then it's been nothing but a downward spiral of nonsense.

According to the MG Wiki BB doesn't die in MG1. So..

The wonders of retroactive continuity.

If the spoiler is legit, I'm curious as to the how/when of Venom Snake 'learning' he's a double upon coming out of his coma.

I suppose with the brain damage, it's possible to get him believing it, or using some sort of subliminal brainwashing/conditioning along with the facial reconstruction, but that all seems....really, really dumb.

Seems like a lot of stretching to tie this back into MG1 and 2.

God fucking damnit. I can't believe I was weak enough to read these damn spoilers that thabtoUK wrote. Strong enough not to read about Ishmael's true identity, but that's not saying much. FUCK.

FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.
