Well I think it's almost a miracle that Kojima has been able to keep canon 2 games this old considering how complex the MG storyline has become in all this years... so even if there are a couple of retcons here and there I don't care so much!

It's funny that if these leaks are true, Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake will have based their insurrections on a lie. Both of them used Outer Heaven as inspiration lmao

Poor Solidus still can't get a break more than 10 years later.

It's also amazing that a 1987 game, A GAME WITH THE MOST SIMPLEST OF STORIES, is NOT safe from the complexities of modern day MGS. There is nothing else like this in gaming or possibly fiction. When Dune got its sequels and prequels it was a different author. You don't see authors or directors making changes to their almost 3 decades' old work haha
 
Big Boss's exact words in MGS4 were "You erased me two times before. Today... will mark the third." And the way he calls Ahab "his phantom" makes it sound like he sees him as an extension of himself. And not that relevant but he goes on in the same scene about "erasing shadows", people being able to "play a specific role" and other metaphors, so I guess it's not too far off. It's still a retcon but it's not like Kojima forgot what he originally wrote there. I still don't like it.

I'm fine with this Cobra unit shit because it in essense doesn't change a thing about them ir their powers. The Sorrow is still full on supernatural, if MGS4 had done it it would've been revealed The Sorrow was talking to left over nanomachines in dead soldiers bodies or whatever.

And most of the Metal Gear supernatural aspects still are, but you acted like if MGS4 suddenly erased all of that while it only explained just a few things. But with this? You are ok with this.

But it still fits. Big Boss is still the crazy man in MG2. So Outer Heaven is still his.

But it works to an extent because Zero spread the legend of Big Boss through truth and lies.

Haha you made me realise that Ocelots take on OH with Outer Haven is basically made a whole load of shit with MGSV. And Ocelot was in on this whole thing. Venom creating OH doesn't make sense to me as OH was Big Bosses take on The Boss's will. Doesn't Eva expand on this in MGSV? Eve was with the patriots so wouldn't she have known about Big Boss's body double some 20 years later? This shit doesn't make any sense.

MGS4 in regards to MGS2 absolutely attempted to ground everything in that game to cold hard reality and science.

The so called leak is weakened by the following: If in the tape Venom Snake learns about the truth why would he go ahead and finalize Big Boss's vision of Outer Heaven? 3. It makes zero sense for Big Boss to send SS to kill VS in Metal Gear. He could have done it himself.

2. OH is still being founded against the Patriots/Zero... just add being founded to fight against the real BB, as well. VS hated all of them and doesn't want to be a pawn, so he needs to make Outer Heaven.
3. It makes all the sense for BB for send in SS to kill VS (Go short-hand!). The real BB, Naked Snake, is a manipulative pussy.

I actually really love this turn. I think it not only makes BB into a villain, but ties up more loose ends than it creates. In this story... maybe BB isn't straight-on villian to some, but to most, he's now a cold, callous, calculating, manipulative, back-stabbing, bitch. Yet, the legend of Big Boss being a bad-ass is still accurate, because it's based on VS's legacy as a faux-BB.

Love it! Absolutely love it.

If anything we ARE playing as the real Big Boss... the guy making most of the bad-ass parts of the legend.


I get that it's a new idea to get used to, and I get that's it's a divisive retcon, but to me it not only makes sense, but actually makes the whole series more interesting. It even foreshadows stuff later in the timelime, like Nanomachines and S3.

I'm just glad I'm really playing as Big Boss... even if I'm not really playing as Big Boss... um, riiiight.

On another note, we got retail copies in at my job for TPP, you have no idea how tough it was to not just grab one and walk out while flipping the bird.

Well if you look at it like that, isn't Solid Snake a villain for working behind the scenes and letting Raiden do all the work in MGS2, knowing full well he could die?
 
Also worth noting, at least from what we can see, whoever Venom is, he seems to be pretty legit in his own sense. He's definitely no slouch when it comes to the soldier department.
