Seems like a bit of wishful thinking, given that BB doesn't have the shrapnel in his face.....unless it's part of the whole 'double fake-out' thing described in the theory above where they put the shrapnel into BB after taking it out of Ishmael.

Seems more likely that we're not BB, tbh, especially with all of the hints/missteps that Ocelot makes to you in the first few missions.

Right until the end you don't realize that someone loyal to Big Boss (possibly still the medic) gets plastic surgery to LOOK LIKE BIG BOSS! So in reality, Ishmael already completed the surgery to look like Big Boss, but Big Boss couldn't go through the surgery to look like Ishmael due to the Doctor being killed!

This explains why Ishmael acts, talks, and thinks like Snake but cannot fight like him (he actually jumps on Quiet? instead of performing CQC?) and explains why Punished "Venom" Snake can still be "the greatest soldier in history" and perform every single ridiculous feat after coming straight out of a coma with no proper training.

I also think that BB's coma had nothing to do with his memory loss if that's true. I believe that they did something to the man while he was under (tainted/destroyed his memories, somehow caused the shrapnel to grow out of his head during the coma)

Also, HOW IS THAT A MAN THAT RECEIVES PLASTIC SURGERY STILL HAS ALL OF THOSE FACIAL SCARS?? It makes no sense. If they medic's face to BB's to that accurace then wouldn't they also be also able to remove the scars as well?

Ishmael on the other hand looks like a perfect, undamaged, true motherfuckin Big Boss. By the end of the game , OF COURSE he's going to still help out Big Boss and build Outer Heaven. It makes way more sense than a maniacal impostor still believing he's big boss run rampant around the world and the real Big Boss letting that happen.

Tl;dr: You are still BB as Venom Snake. The switch failed because of the ambush at the hospital. Ishmael was supposed to take your place and already has your face, but the plan ultimately failed because the Doctor could not perform the surgery on you in time. Zero was looking to save your life from Skull Face, to use a body double so that you may always live under a new face."

I have a different take:

Ishmael is BB because using CQC would be a dead giveaway that something is not right. How long has Ishmael been awake? Do you need to be awake and functioning to have facial reconstruction surgery done? For all we know Ishamel had the surgery done and was awake long before VS. He planted himself back in the hospital and pretended to wake up at the same time as VS. Additionally, if Ishmael dies it creates a time paradox so that alone should debunk your theory. This isn't a shot towards you at all because this all good news. If you find out what's true don't spoil me, please? Yes, I said this in a spoiler post but don't spoil me after the launch.
 
So if the parasite only affects the vocal chords... how does that stop language? People would still be able to write and read. It'll suck for the illiterate.

I think that would be true (or at least be a valid interpretation) if we didn't see Ocelot lighting up fake (in this scenario) Big Boss' cigar. Why would Ocelot align with the fake BB or how would he be fooled into working with the fake BB if this theory is indeed true?

Definitely something to chew on, though.

Could you imagine a double twist like that? You think you're BB through the whole game, then told you're not (with incidental proof to prove it, maybe), but then BAM! you really ARE the real Big Boss.
 
If the Zero leak is real, wouldnt that mean that he is no longer in control of Cipher during the Hospital mission? The AIs would be the ones who sent the soldiers in to kill BB and VS.
 
Ocelot in this game doesn't feel like the Ocelot we've known in the other games, at all.

Do we know what those orange lines are after all?

I guess the idea is the world wouldn't be able to coordinate against nuclear strikes if everyone suddenly went mute. It's a smart way to outdo any second strike capability.

Well I think if you give him a mustache he kind of does. But really, Ocelot always acted wild, both when young and old. In this game, he's doing the usual support-role persona. Ocelot was always self-centered, untrustworthy, etc.

BTW whatever justifies that Miller goes back to Foxhound after all this?

Then they'll just write whatever they need to say on paper, or typewriter, or computer, or they can learn sign language. Instead of it affecting the vocal chords, it should've attacked the language center of the brain.

What I really wanna know is if Venom creates Outer Heaven out of rebellion or if he's still under BBs thumb.

Doing it as an act of rebellion would really paint him as a mirror to Skullface. Both used by Zero and BB, they end up consumed with revenge and create organizations XOF/Outer Heaven with the same names as their masters as a fuck you. Both get delt with by BB sending in the new pawn, SkullFace-> Venom -> Solid Snake

Good ol Solid Snake always breaking dem cycles
 
They just caught an old soldier from 9 years ago and fultoned him back to MB. He was running around with that creepy super speed the skulls in the fog have.

Is that the source of the breakout on MB?

Minor spoiler:
Ocelot at the firing range when Big Boss came back, the dudes gun jams as he tries to trick shoot like Ocelot did in MGS3 and gives the grunt the same rundown that Big Boss did in MGS3 towards Ocelot. Totally awesome. I laughed so hard.
 
That one guy was right. Tapes are much better written and actually sound like conversations now.
 
100 pages, reviews are done, guide is leaked, people have the game... ... and we still don't know the story, definitively? Is that right, or did I miss something?
 
I was playing and this just happened. When I went to save Huey, a cutscene came and the AI pod was there. The Boss' AI said, Jack, is that you? No... you're not Jack. Or something of that sort. Then Huey saw Venom and said, Snake? Is that you?? And Venom didn't say a word and bagged him over his head.

This lends credence to that earlier Reddit post, I mean Kojima wouldn't have let the cat out of the bag that early?

How far are you in the game? I'm assuming the 4th or 5th mission?
