Credits after each mission? Like, full credits? Are they at least skippable?
Full on black screen, white text, cast, designers, etc. The whole fucking shebang.

A Hideo Kojima Game.

K O N A M I

Every. Fucking. Time.

Don't know if they can be skipped, the streamer couldn't or didn't try. Even if they can be skipped, they still shouldn't be there, interrupting and delaying my playtime.

If they only take 2 seconds to skip, that's still going to add up a ton, with all the replays I'll be doing.

So it just occurred to me that we are never getting another Snake (or other) infiltrating an enemy facility game again. We haven't had a Shadow Moses/tanker/plant since the PS2. Those environments were characters themselves.

Why do they do this? Stylistic choice?
Do Japanese players bow after every mission and thank the creators?

I'm sure more Metal Gear will happen...with or without Kojima. It may take years though.

Every time I get hyped something new about Quiet comes out and it makes me re-think buying it. Oh well.

Dude. I generally don't like this kind of thing either. However I'm kind of at this point where if you get shamed for liking porn, that's pretty ridiculous... it really is a natural human thing. We are animals at the very baseline of things. I rant and rave about feminism all the time, and certain times I think its appropriate while others it's just futile.

MGS has always had extreme cases of masculinity and sexuality, hell, even homo-eroticism. I argued that Monster Hunter needed better female armor designs, since it's a silent avatar that the player can pick... In that case it's a projection of the player and if a woman were to pick the game up and attempt to play she may feel misrepresented. Most of the more modest armor in that game isn't until G rank for female avatars... so it sucks. My fiance didn't really like it, and I didn't like it.

However in games where it's already an established trope, and the tropes used are always relied on, WHY - would you ever expect it to change? The Boss is an amazing character... Yes, she dies to a man, but that's an extremist feminist-over-analysis of the plot.

Is Quiet sexist? Yeah. Do I care? No. Why? Because if you get mad over every single creative depiction, maybe you're a tad to sensitive for the content in the game. It's heavily implied you have to kill child soldiers in this game as well... so maybe you shouldn't try it. It's like people arguing that Bayonetta was a sexist character when she was exactly the opposite lol. She had sexual agency over her body and taunted enemies with it as she killed them in explicit ways... the men in the game are always saved BY her. She even holds them in her arms a lot, lol. The "let me cling" trope done on a woman. She's literally the female equivalent of Dante - who flaunts his masculinity all over the place. She was also created by a woman at Platinum who designs the characters for the series, and it's a series that has been railed on by feminists... hilariously enough, my fiance - who generally hates it when I play a sexist game (so I try to play them when she's not around) liked Bayonetta because of it's insane role reversal.

Quiet isn't really the same as Bayonetta - but I'm just saying... sexualization of a female character shouldn't warrant an entire game being "shit" when that's only a SINGULAR aspect of the game itself. I get the whole extremist feminist take - "destroy systemic oppression!" but honestly... when the topic is already being talked about HEAVILY, and you have games that are trying represent female characters much more equally these days, do we really need to rail on EVERY single game that contains sexist representations of women?

Do you even know how many women like Metal Gear!? Not many. Raiden was even made because Hideo asked women if they like Snake as a main character design... and they said no - he looked to grizzled and manly, they wanted a more feminine, and handsome man to play as. So it's not like he hasn't tried to make his games more appealing to women.

Well i am somewhat glad i can't watch the streams of entirely uninteresting players.
I developed the skill to not want to watch average and or frustrating gameplay.

To be fair, that'll be hilarious.

I know right? I mean in Corporate circles they are so strict, I could see it leak into everyday life.

AFAIK Kojima wanted every mission to feel like a TV series episode, complete with open and end credits.

AH! Now THAT makes sense. It's better for handheld games though which you would play on the move, so each trip you would see one "episode." One other game had this format, the ALONE IN THE DARK Reboot which treated the game like a DVD of a television series. I suppose Quantum Break will be the other one.

Episodic Format works best when the game itself is Episodic ala Life Is Strange

Going by GZ, the credits skip by pretty fast though

Fiction is merely an exaggerated reflection of our society. MGS V is saying this is how women should look and dress if they want to be famous and loved by all.
You want to be a respected female badass? Well TITS OR GTFO honey! I'm going to put her in the Sniper Wolf outfit as soon as I can.

I am being facetious but there is a grain of truth to what I said.

Or better yet put her in a burka.
For the record, women can wear whatever they want. They don't all have to look like amish.

I think it kind of sucks that women (puts hand up) basically have the boss as the only non sexy character to identify with. Don't get me started on Meryl and her instant swooning marriage to an incontinent moron.

Having said that, I just take it as it is. Kojima is going to Kojima, at least she gets a really crazy badass moment early on.

Or better yet put her in a burka.

Because it's poorly fitting bikinis or burkas, there is CLEARLY no other reasonable option in the middle. If you're not FOR one extreme, you MUST only want the opposite extreme, yadda yadda. Clearly the best option for someone who literally cannot get her skin wet without debilitating pain and suffering would walk around wearing pretty much nothing.

Why only that extreme? Sexuality can be empowering, Eva deliberately unzipping her jacket to put Naked Snake off guard is a very cool moment. The problem is that nothing about Quiet makes sense unless seen as a pure titillation. Also, if boobs = tumors thing is true then frankly that is the most insulting thing I have ever seen in a video game. Life threatening disease turned into a cheap joke at the expense of those who suffer from it in real life.

I really really want to like Quiet. I would prefer I know nothing about her.

The Boss is an unusual bastion of strong females in an industry full of digital bimbo's
I didn't mind Meryl that much, note that in MGS 4 Kojima was basically playing out Mr. & Mrs. Smith apparently. He really liked that movie.
There seemed to be a desperate attempt to make Johnny cool though, the moment the mask comes off he becomes a completely different character.

I would count Sniper Wolf and EVA among the other strong women in the series. Amanda too I suppose though we never saw her do anything.
Probably Strangelove, if anything she ends up as an unfortunate victim at the hands of a madman. You know what, throw Paz in there too since that DATE MISSION was merely Kojima's way of appealing to the Japanese anime nerds that wanted to buy Monster Hunter with a METAL GEAR skin. And there was a Kaz DATE MISSION too which ends with Boss and Kaz getting equally intimate inside a box.

Because it's poorly fitting bikinis or burkas, there is CLEARLY no other reasonable option in the middle. If you're not FOR one extreme, you MUST only want the opposite extreme, yadda yadda. No I'm thinking how cool and bizarre a scuba suit style outfit would have been for her. But nope!

I'm so happy Kojima's never managed to revisit The Boss in a way that messes with her image.
Peace Walker was weird as hell, but I don't feel it actually reflects on The Boss as a character.

She's just such an incredible no-shit get-shit-done woman and only a small handful of video games have affected me the way the revelation of her motivations and backstory in MGS3 did.
I still tear the fuck up during Big Boss' Debriefing.

What a goddamn hero.

It's funny how some people have taken unproved rumors, they have believed them to be real, and they are already insulted by them.
Looks like some people are just too eager to be insulted, they will hold on to anything.

It's understandable that you'd want more equalized representations of female characters in MGS, and I agree. I was a little irritable at Quiet being dressed in a bikini myself, but like you I've decided to just take it as it is - acknowledge the unfairness... try to keep it in mind as I play while enjoying the rest of the game. A lot of folks don't realize that you can take the bad WITH the good sometimes.

FYI you can recruit and play as female soldiers dressed in full camo. They're really non-characters, but they are dressed, and set up around MB... so it's not like Quiet is the only female character on MB dressed in a bikini to be ogled by men, she's there with other fully dressed women. It's lame that she's the only female character with any sort of story and gets hammed into that outfit, but she is on MB with other women, she just happens to be the only one with story time, and plot importance.

They still take at least 10sec when skipping.

And considering I've put over 120hrs into GZ, that's alot of time wasted.

Credits before and after each mission (skippable or not) is a moronic design decision. If we can't disable them, they better patch it out... oh, wait, KojiPro is dead...

For those wondering, there is a lot and I mean a lot of both radio and cassette tapes dealing with everything, so people worrying if it's like MGS4, need not worry.

What about the iDroid tho?

i can't go through 60 hours of

If 10 seconds is a lot of time wasted to you... perhaps... you need some patience?

Because Kojima is the one who set up that expectation. He's the one saying he wants to tell a mature story, he's the one who said that we'd all be ashamed of our words and deeds and yet here we are. Plus it's 2015, you'd think one of the only female supporting characters in the game wouldn't just be there to titillate. I guess Strangelove is there too but I dunno how extensive her role is aside from being crushed to death.

Did you just cherry pick a single sentence of my post?

Yeah, Hideo is a nutjob. A creative nutjob, but a nutjob none-the-less. Also Japan isn't really dealing with sexism the way we are. They have their own cultural situations that are pretty different from ours. For fucks sake they're still racist as hell - and they don't even understand what that means. Most Americans don't even know who the Utari or Ryukyuans are... because Japan tells the world they're 96% racially and culturally homogenous. The UN has many issues with them because that's entirely untrue based on researchers going there and seeing very different cultures, languages, and traditions as old as Japan but Japan still has a superiority complex about themselves.

However that doesn't mean I can't like his insane video-game he made. People like David Lynch and I'll never understand why... but I don't judge 'em for it.

Also - yeah Hideo says a lot shit. He always has. He lies, and lies... and that's what he does. You should basically never trust a crazy person. I'm going into this understanding that basically everything Hideo has said up until now is essentially crazy talk.

Bad ass cutscene just happened. Venom found child soldiers in a cell. They offered him diamonds for their life. Kaz says over the radio, "they've only got two options, heaven, or hell" Venom responds with, "there's another" Kaz says, "outer heaven?" And snake starts shooting at the cell.

Damn that's cold.

Is there any... reason given as to why he's just shooting defenseless kids all of a sudden?

Have you tried pressing the left side of the touchpad? You can skip the cutscenes in Ground Zeroes that way.

Alright so he starts shooting and you hear screaming, but once the camera pans to the cell... you see him shooting the ground and a bucket for diamonds to be revealed. Then you extract the kids and bring them back to mother base.

He shot the ground and a bucket appeared?

Pretty much how I saw that scene going.

For all the people freaking the fuck out about credits -- no, it's not full credits of everybody who worked on the game presented after each and every mission -- it's a list of the people involved in THAT mission, and it lasts like 10 seconds. You spend longer finding out what rewards you unlocked for completing the mission than you do seeing credits :p

As for the Quiet "controversy", I don't care. She's a really cool character and an excellent boss fight -- people who are suddenly outraged over a woman wearing revealing clothing in a video game -- you know you can change it, right? Yes, I know fishnet and a bikini aren't armor. But this is also a game that features fultoning sheep, confusing trained military members with a box, sneaking or killing people to 80s music, people who can fly, people who can absorb bullets but fear a sprinkler, etc, etc. It doesn't have to make sense.

I fully agree that Kojima just likes boobs and put some boobs in the game. If this is so traumatic, a moral outrage, and triggers you, just do what moms everywhere having been telling their teenage daughters caught wearing something they don't approve of -- put a coat on them.

You have options :p

I really could spend a long time replying to this post, but I'm on a commute home. Why does my opinion on a character in a game effect you? If it bothers you, ignore it. Like you're telling me to do with Quiet.

I do not like Quiet. I don't like her design, I don't like the "reasons" for her design. I don't like Kojima explaining that there is a deep meaning to her design (there is not). I don't like the weird fecking exploitation of a female character they have going in the game.

I will call out sexist depictions of women in the media, thank you very much. I never said anything other than Quiet is making me reserved about buying the gam in that post.

You missed my point: 10sec is nothing... once. But when you add up all the 10sec of doing nothing over hundreds of hours... you're looking at hours of wasted time.

That is a big problem.

Have you tried pressing the left side of the touchpad? You can skip the cutscenes in Ground Zeroes that way.

I don't have the game yet, just going by what I've seen on some streams. I'm sure we can skip them like in GZ, but it's still wasted time. There needs to be an option to disable them.

Meh, never saw the big deal/problem with Quiet.

I understand the issue, but at this point, I'll never understand why it becomes such an issue for people in MGS games. Fans should know that it's something that pops up in the series from time to time, and those who only watch the series from afar should know to just avoid it.
