Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Well if they did respond and clearly said no we would at least know that much. If they don't respond so be it.
They denied the existence of the amiibo, so they saying no wouldn't mean much.
Since Yacht Club is making this Amiibo wouldn't a Smash Amiibo instantly cut into their own Amiibo sales and vice-versa. I don't really see it benefiting either party to have both.
I guess it depends of when each amiibo will be released. Also, isn't the Yacht Club amiibo supposed to have limited copies?
If a certain someone is sneaking into battle, you wouldn't want to announce it too far ahead...

I'll repost this here because why not

Because I am a crazy person, I'm going to list some reasons why I think Snake might be coming Monday.

1. Maintenance is happening mere hours before MGS5 releases. If Snake makes it to Smash 4 at all, there is no time more opportune than now. Also, its something that I imagine Konami would have mandated. The hype is real and releasing Snake now would be a win-win for Nintendo and Konami.

2. Pretty much everyone agrees that the update at the end of July was a little sparse, especially coming off of the massive June update. Here we are exactly a month later with another potential DLC update on the horizon and its happening much sooner than expected. Why have two updates so close together if you could've had one larger one if only you had waited? Well, if Konami was hypothetically adamant about Snake releasing right on MGSV-eve even if he was completed a month prior, its possible that Nintendo would just go ahead and release everything not-MGS related once it was done, hence the most recent (somewhat light) update.

3. "Kept you waiting, huh?"

4. Man, I miss Snake

Well, after today's events (or lack thereof), it would certainly seem that if Shovel Knight actually is coming, it's likelier to be sometime in the next couple of months and not necessarily this weekend. If that's the case, that kills my source, so there that goes!

That said... I have no idea what to make of the fact that Smash is going down for maintenance on Monday. They only announce maintenance beforehand when it's a big patch with new content, so regardless of what's happening with Shovel Knight, it certainly seems like something is happening on Monday. That's exciting too!

Either way, the Shovel Knight amiibo is so fucking cool. Day one for me.

Wait. Your source said he was coming to Smash this weekend?

Has he given any reason to believe him or offered true information before?

Yes, they said this weekend (well, during PAX so technically Monday would count too). No, I have zero reason to believe them. I have specified the second point several times in this thread so that nothing I'm saying gets out of hand. Again, this is a completely random person who has never contacted me before and who could literally be anyone. It's best to assume they're trolling until proven otherwise.

My source being legit or not doesn't really affect Shovel Knight's chances either way, though. If my source is a troll, that's just my source. It has nothing to do with the allegedly reputable and verified sources that began these rumors in the first place.

Just a thought

Perhaps the Shovel Knight amiibo IS his Smash one but they're using "prototype" box art and model to hide that fact. Though the idea of SK getting a YCG amiibo and a smash one isn't too crazy either. All of this is assuming SK is eventually revealed for smash as part of the ballot.

This is not a Nintendo Amiibo, but a third party one like the Skylander ones. There is 0% of this materialising into a Smash Bros line Amiibo.

Aren't dk and bowser skylanders that can double as amiibo though? I think thats different enoungh compared to a straight amiibo.

If something big is coming on Monday, there should be an announcement about an announcement. And that would mean today, because it's Friday. They don't announce an announcement on the weekend, right?

When did they announce the Robin/Lucina reveal video? Was that on that Friday before?

Ryu and Roy were announced and released on a Sunday. They announce stuff on the weekend, especially because of PAX.

IIRC, they had already announced Lucas for that date. And they had already announced a Smash direct about all the new content. (It's just that Roy and Ryu leaked beforehand.)

And that was E3.

I'm talking about an announcement for the announcement, like the announcement for the Robin/Lucina trailer.

It's 9:10 PM in Japan right now so it's possible that it could be patch or balance patch only since we haven't hear anything from there yet. I know there is a chance that we could get announcement on Monday.

It seems unlikely it's just a random patch. It's during the "prime time" update window where (almost) every region is awake, and is exactly the same time the last DLC hit. Random patches without new content have traditionally hit during off hours (middle of the day in Japan, middle of the night for the US).

What's interesting to me, though, is this is the first Smash patch that has the two consoles at different times. The previous patches all had the announcement as the same time. The Wii U version is usually updated first, anyway, and then the 3DS later, so I guess they decided to just announce it like that, rather than having people hang around waiting for the 3DS to update while the Wii U was already done.

Sakurai has also mentioned he dislikes doing a lot of patches unless there's a good reason to do so, because not everyone has their consoles always hooked to the Internet, especially the 3DS. That's probably why between release and Mewtwo, we only got a handful of patches and they were separated by several months.

are there any other streams during PAX where a character reveal could occur? I don't know if Nintendo or YCG have anything else prepared for the weekend.

It also doesn't necessarily need to be a character. It could easily just be more Mii Costumes and maybe a Brawl or another 64 retro stage. I doubt it would just be Mii costumes, however.

I think we have it all wrong. Tamaki insists there won't be TWO SK amiibos.....he insists this amiibo is pulling a Little Mac, and hiding the fact its from Smash.

Its base is VERY similar, even down to the color and everything to Smash Bros. Perhaps the final release will have the smash logo instead. Even the design of the box is pretty similar....where it has the character art in the top right and then fades to white.

Still hoping he isn't in Smash, but I do trust those who say he is.

This just seems flat out wrong.

There'd be no reason to make two different prototype Shovel Knight Amiibo figures (gold base and purple base), unless they knew the gold base was confusing compared to the Smash series. The Amiibo also doesn't follow the proportions of other Smash Amiibo.

Theres also a lot of bits that still don't add up here. Like how they've been working on the amiibo for over a year and the fact YCG is still campaigning hard for SK.

Whats also weird is that YCG flat up lied the other day about an amiibo coming. Usually its wise to keep quiet. So this basically means we can't take too much what they say on twitter regarding his inclusion serious.

Which is also to note, when asked about SK in Smash, they have been dodging the question and even started off last night asking if we heard any good rumors lately. I wonder if they implied the Smash rumor and not the amiibo rumor (which was essentially not even a rumor at that point).

Lastly, the Mods from SB and PushDustin from sourcegaming claim they are only 75% sure about Tamaki's source. They can't talk about much, but I wonder what is up about the source that theres a quarter of uncertainty around it.

Probably because rumors, even sourced rumors, without picture or video evidence are not guaranteed to be accurate. Heck, even picture evidence isn't enough these days as fakes get better and better.

Edit: So THIS just popped up. The Amiibo originally had a Smash base

If YCG is fully making this that would make sense as all amiibo had a smash base for awhile until the other series were announced. Though who knows maybe that image more reflective of the final build then the prototype.

Maybe if this were an earlier prototype, but as concept art, why wouldn't you just give it a blank base if you didn't know the design yet?

maybe they wanted to submit it this way to get nintendo thinking about putting him in smash

I doubt it, since the people they'd be submitting to have nothing to do with that decision. More likely if it's a coincidence, they just didn't realize that only smash amiibo have that base because they just didn't make the connection to the smash logo in their heads. Given that the vast majority of amiibo are in the smash series, I could see that being an easy mistake to make

Is it fair to say that there's a good chance when Shovel Knight in Smash is actually ready they'll release another amiibo and the one just announced can also be used in Smash? That's how I see this ending right now.

That's not what the guy who leaked this said would happen, but it seems more plausible that, if SK is in Smash, that this would be the scenario, as the design of the Amiibo revealed seems close to final.

I think it's more likely that, in the case that Shovel Knight is in Smash, this is simply his amiibo. There isn't necessarily a rule that states all DLC needs to get a Smash themed amiibo, or an amiibo at all. I know the DLC so far are all getting amiibos, but there's still no real rule for that.

- Sakurai said every character that gets into Smash will get a Smash amiibo

- The Shovel Knight amiibo, which seems to have a pretty finalized design, is obviously not part of the Smash series

- To those saying the amiibo is being disguised and the character will be announced at PAX: why? Why do that when you could just announce both together at PAX and not go through the pointlessness of creating a fake amiibo?

That said, I think Shovel Knight may make it into Smash somehow. Maybe a Mii costume or trophy.

The obvious thing here is that Shovel Knight will get a new amiibo way down the line. Maybe it's not fully planned out yet, but as you said all Smash characters need an amiibo.

I don't get why people think SK having two amiibo released far apart is some weird concept that will never happen.

If SK is released on Monday, let's say. His Smash Amiibo isn't coming out until at least Spring 2016, based on how long the other DLC is taking to get Amiibo. That's a long time for Yacht to need to wait to add the Amiibo features they want to add to their game.

We don't even have a date for Ryu, Lucas and Roy, but it'll be early/mid Winter 2016, and they came out months ago.
