Then i at least hope they put everything on pc day one so i don't need to buy their shitty attempt to copy switch to play their crossgen ass games.

Happy now?

For this to work they need to keep it simple

- Ensure it plays all PS5 games

- Ensure it only plays PS5 games

- Include "PS5" in the name, I suggest "PS5 Portable"

Launch in 2027 and it's bound to get at least 5 year's worth of new games (it's 2025 and we're still getting new COD games on PS4.

Sorry, Deep, but all the information we've gotten over past months suggests that it's going to be a low level PS6 SKU.

What is that question, why would I care if you buy a PlayStation, lol.

There's one issue with this; if it only runs PS5 games through the portable wrapper, it will not be able to use AI upscaling solutions like PSSR, compared to actually directly developing software for it, and to that point it just becomes another PS6. It will be a PS6 Portable.

People complained about dual tiered approach with the Series S and that thing is ~75W. What happens when you try a dual tier approach with a ~20W handheld and ~200W traditional console???

I don't see it unless the traditional console itself is massively dialed down to ~100W to reduce the power gap....which nobody would be a fan of....
Just don't release the PS6. We don't need a $800 console.

My issue with this if it's not going to have its own exclusives and mostly just plays games I can already play on my PS5 then there is no point for me getting the system.

I bought systems like Gameboy, DS, PSP, 3DS and PSVita because they had games that I couldn't get anywhere else not for their portability…..it's same reason why I bought Switch and now Switch 2.

I assume you also mean PS4 games as well. (And games from other PS consoles...not direct play PS6 games)
I think it also needs to have PS6 direct connect remote play and cloud support for PS6 games.

No exclusives!

Games take too long to make now, Sony and partners can't afford to have exclusives across platforms.

By all means design handheld games like puzzlers, but they must be on PS5 too for simplicity's sake.

Please tell me why it would flop.

See it like this; if you're planning to buy a PS6, you will have to choose between normal PS6 and PS6 Portable, just like people had to choose between Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. Even though Sony would obviously love the idea of you buying both, they just need you to buy one of the two and stick with it for the rest of the generation. Your purchase will account for one additional unit sale on the PS6 family of systems.
The mistake people are making is to assume that it will be a PS5 Portable. It's not.
See the positive side, 60fps 4ever!

We lost the charm of handhelds when games stopped being made specifically for the small screen and small resolution. This certainly doesn't excite me like the PSP and Vita, which I both really enjoyed.

I mean DBZ took like 5 years to reach that 10 million figure (and is probably bigger in Asia than the MCU, which matters a lot because Sony is releasing this on PC day 1).

Meanwhile RE4make sold like 6.4 million copies in its first year alone (Capcom continually updates their total sales figures with every financial report iirc). It already reached 10m in two years and is liable to continue selling. And that was a controversial remake when it was 1st announced too! It didn't have all of the RE fanbase pulling for it at its inception.

Neither DragonBall FighterZ or Dragon Ball Sparking Zero seem to have any significant spikes on Steam concurrent use well after launch.

The idea that these numbers are driven by PC just doesn't bare out in the charts.

I also see little evidence this was driven by Asia.

DBFZ hit 8 million in 2021 and 6 million in 2020.

Spider-Man 2 hit 10 million units sold in less than 4 months without being on PC at the time.

Arc System Works have arrived. They're extremely well known name in the FGC. This game will have no problem selling out of the gates.

I never said that it would flop, i said that i hope it flop, very different.

Not sure how that has anything to do with your last question or my response but ok.

If PS6 and PS6 portable are just same systems other than portability then for me PS6 portable just pointless.

Even for Switch 2 I don't care much for its portability and I care more about its exlusive games.

And that is fine, if it has games that you want to play, it looks like you will opt for the home console, it's all good for Sony in the end because it's the same family of consoles at the end of the day. I will opt for the handheld myself.

Just it! Sony doesn't need a PS6 right now. Maybe from 5 years, but that is a big maybe. Even when PS6 comes out most games will be cross-gen and with most people playing live services games (who still run in a PS4), I honestly don't see any reason to Sony even think about a new console.

A PS5 with 10 years on the market would be a big mistake.

I love when Nintendo gets harsh competition. They are forced to be on their toes and not take their audience for granted. They become a better Nintendo at those times.

Why would I buy that over say a next gen steam deck?

Because it'll play your PlayStation digital library.

Why would I buy a Steamdeck when I've never bought a single game on Steam?
Why would sony make something with the aim of selling no games?

People already in the eco system likely have alot of PS5 games and those outside it would just buy a pc handheld that plays all those games, xbox games and the rest.

Seems like a shit idea to me.

I'm actually in favour of it....but that was not what the post I was responding to said. It was talking about a dual handheld/traditional console tiers. Which I don't think is feasbile.

I'd be in favour of Playstation doing a powerful/non-cheaped out version of the Switch concept. I don't think it's gonna happen though.

Its sales by the course of its tenth year of the market would be so poor that it will result in a less than stellar momentum going into the PS6 launch. It's a nice way to tank general interest on the brand.

10 years of production and support before its successor came out?
The point is not only about sales, but monthly active users. As I said, the most played games every year (and also the most rentable) are all live service games. You can literally play all of these games on a PS4 or a low end PC. You don't need to sell another console for those people, you just need to keep them engage in your ecosystem.

MAU is inherent to console sales, they need to keep their consumer base engaged with a steady pace of new products, otherwise you run the risk of people just dropping PlayStation as a whole.

But if it renders at 1080p tops without TV output? Could also run the games at 30 fps vs 60 or 120, depending on the game. I'm sure there's a way for Wizard Cerny and his team to do it
