Haha this is really bad plotwise. That's a huge retcon that Solid Snake killed the decoy instead. The parasite stuff is the equivalent of the nanomachines from 4.
 
I did, because it was shown in MGS2 that Emma invented the AI.

But thanks to these prequels it turns out Emma and Otacon are chumps who didn't ivent much of anything compared to Huey and Strangelove. Not a fan of that.

Also I didn't like the continuing putting of the Boss on a pedestal, but I cant totally blame PW for that. That is mgs4's sin.

Say what you will about all the MGs, but Arsenal Gear was by far the biggest and most impressive outside of Outer Haven from MGS4. Unless I'm mistaken, Emma did that.

Arsenal was just developed by the Patriots. They never expand on details beyond that it was a Navy project. (the Marines developed RAY)
 
After the massive backlash and drop in sales following MGS2 he probably is talking about the twist. The "dark" "mature" stuff really aint crazy from what I've seen, people are more concerned with Quiet's outfit than any of that stuff.

Thanks for clearing that up. I understand the themes in GZ were brutal. Some (or most) people thought they were edgy for the sake of it. I would have liked to seen them attempting darker themes, or taboo subjects in TPP. I thought if they took the risk, and handled it well that could be interesting.

Ah well, guess that was asking for too much xD Cheers for clearing that up for me.

Yeah but in the end you're still playing with BB.. though story wise he's a clone. Its in terms of gameplay the best MGS and I am really impressed by everything I've seen.

Its just that the plot isn't really my cup of tea. MGS2 initially wasn't either, but with the digital age ushering for real just a moment later I've came to appreciate it more. But I doubt I'm going to appreciate the twist of MGS V anytime. I understand MGS has been about nobodies achieving legend status, but Raiden was built up with training and with a past relationship (Rose and Solidus). The guy had a backstory and I didn't mind playing as him.

BB also had a backstory in MGS3.

Medic really has none. If we had played as Medic in GZ and PW, THEN the Medic gets stripped of his own identity to others benefit would've shocked me more. Probably.

If i'm honest, though you can find stuff where Hideo might've taken this idea from et al, I think Hideo is a hack when it comes to writing. Its no coincidence that MGS1 -3 had the best script. 4 jumped the shark, PW was outright bad. Its exactly the point where his best man departed. A comparison can be drawn with Sally Menke and Tarantino. I felt his work with Menke was edited far better.
 
How does ST84 fight? From the cutscene it looks pretty lumbering and it's real power comes from Mantis giving it that fire sword/whip.

REX and RAY may not look as impressive but they seems way more agile in MGS4, especially Rising for RAY.

  • If you turn Reflex Mode off, Quiet acts as your 'Reflex Mode' if she's at a vantage point.
  • The reason she is dressed so scantily is because she is photosynthetic much like The End from MGS3.
  • Quiet also doesn't breathe with her lungs, or eat with her mouth and in order to drink water she showers as she injests the water through her skin. So her clothes LITERALLY suffocate her.

GW, yes. But GW was simply housed inside Arsenal. Arsenal was built as a mobile fortress to protect it. Maybe it's tied to the ship's operating system (it's unclear), but that's not the point of GW. You could separate GW from controlling Arsenal and nothing would change plot-wise.

Another AI contacts Raiden at the end of MGS2. It's not known or stated whether that AI was housed inside another Arsenal. MGS4 reveals the top AI is actually housed on a satellite.

Point is: Emma's AIs were a separate project from Arsenal.
 
Nonsense explanations are the same as "nowhere." Remember The Simpsons episode with Poochy? Returning to his home planet? That's what this plot is.

How was he unprepared? He handles the faux-IAEA just fine, by telling them to get lost. That's what he'd do after Peace Walker's development for him. Nothing else happens apart from that. When Mother Base gets attacked he doesn't just bounce, he jumps right in and fights.

This game butchered Big Boss by literally splitting him in two. He receives no development at all, only regression. It's not even he who orders Venom Snake's creation evidently, it was Zero. Big Boss was in a coma.



So are you saying it's perfectly believable that Venom Snake could have originally been black but ends up an exact twin of Big Boss...?

I never said anything about him being black. All I said is body doubles are a major trope in spy fiction, I accept it as something that is interesting, and I have no problem with Kojima going this route. Really, what else could he have done to make it interesting? To me this also doesn't fuck with the MGS4 BB because it tells me that he was always, always a pawn of the systems in place regardless of his legendary status, and that status was exploited in so many ways by different folks that it became cloudy who the real Big Boss is/was.

But really, who knows the types of things these types of organizations, fiction or not, can do to a human being. If I should be so upset because someone decides to create a black avatar and in the end he looks like Big Boss is a bit trite because the point of all that is it doesn't MATTER.

If I misinterpreted your point I apologize, but I'm only saying that this seems like an acceptable path to take if we're to believe that BB, in the end (after MGS4) turned out to be misunderstood or just another product of the war machine(s).

I never really took the Metal Gear games as gospel as far as canon goes, MGS was so far removed from them that it seemed silly to me to care if they got retconned.

I never really took the Metal Gear games as gospel as far as canon goes, MGS was so far removed from them that it seemed silly to me to care if they got retconned.

I would say MGS1 was actually pretty faithful to MG2 especially. It used remixed music, constantly referenced Zanzibar and Outer Heaven in the story, and had almost the same controls and mechanics, right down to catwalks making more noise!

But you're right, the series got to a point where those 2D games were left in the dust and basically were more of a myth than part of the core plot.
 
Watching the E3 trailers again just makes my blood boil at how the story turned out. This is going to be disappointing for anyone like me that autistically analysed every single detail in the trailers, expecting the greatest MGS plot by far and getting THIS as the end result.

In the end, all the objective, maybe even casual people that aren't super into MGS will have the best experience because they're not really emotionally invested into the story and will have a great time with the gameplay.

And this is exactly the kind of story I was hoping for since the Phantom Pain trailer at the VGAs, so I don't really know what you're talking about. Hell, if you were really analyzing everything you would have figured out the twist years ago like most of us in this thread.
 
I'm actually starting to warm up to the twist, haha. But I still feel like it would probably be better if it was treated by the game as an actual secret, and not just a twist waiting to be told.

It's totally solid logic, just like the whole "She isn't a 12 year old, guys, she's really a 1000 year old demon, which makes it totally ok for her to walk around with her tits out and stuff" bullshit.

Eli just stole sahalenathropus and went off. My missions are now just the harder ones of the older missions. Do I have to do these missions??? Or will side ops be enough to do to trigger something new?

Medic doesn't have to be some ultimate perfect soldier, he just has to be good enough, in reality real Big Boss might very well be able to easily hand Venom his ass.
