I think the game launching with 16 characters is kind of a misnomer. I believe it'll launch with more than 16 but buying the game alone will only give you access to those 16 initially. I think it's very likely we will get more in the form of unplayable bosses, unplayable secret bosses, pre-order bonus characters, or day 1 DLC. I think Capcom may be uneasy in just having a ton of characters available to buy Day 1 after the SFxT backlash but I'd be surprised if, say, Akuma wasn't a preorder bonus or day 1 DLC.

I think it's the octopus hair. It's the length of his body and it's everywhere. He is also not too tall, maybe because of his posture but R. Mika seemed taller than he was.

Day 1 DLC seems unlikely given their statements, but I think all the rest is likely.
Well yeah, they destroyed the timeline completely in an attempt to be an all stars game with characters from literally every game in there in the exact same form they started in.
SF4 was largely just about celebrating the fact that SF was back after a 10 year hiatus. Now its back to iteration on the core concepts and moving things forward, hence the changes to the characters and such.
It's definitely not the UMvC vibe, because Wolvie is pretty buff in this game and is definitely taller than others when standing.
At the character select, Necalli is very intimidating, and when the stage appears we're like "bah, that's all ?".
I wonder if Capcom should have just went full dream match like King of Fighters does every so often and don't offer a story, and focus on pure mechanics.

We actually don't know that, nothing suggest it aside from the rumor because as you can see there's only sf2 characters in the green.

It was a celebration indeed, if you didn't mind the story and how they brought in characters who should've been dead (Gouken, Gen).
Totally agree with you, but the possibility of the SFIII chars being in green is getting bigger. I'm just not totally excluding them. But like you said, nothing is set in stone yet and it's all based on a rumor and possible leak. Still having my hopes up for some SFIII chars. though.
That's because we have yet to get any veterans from SF3, yet. Just SF2 & Alpha (obviously I'm not counting SF1). If the Siliconera leak is correct, which it most likely is at this point, it would confirm the theory that the green section is for characters from numbers SF games (mainly 2, 3, & 4). Karin on the other hand would likely take up the last slot in the Alpha section.

The Siliconera leak has held up so far by calling Rainbow Mika, so we have little reason to doubt it so far. Plus one of the SF4 characters besides Crimson Viper & Juri (more so the latter) were ever that popular. And both Crimson Viper & Juri could be easy sells as DLC.

I read this as the countries being listed in order of their respective characters. Bobby pointed out otherwise. By this logic, you may be right about Rashid being the North African character (something that would have lined up with my logic). You guys already corrected me on the Dubai thing a while back.
We're most likely getting at least one Illuminati rep, as implied by the recent Charlie Nash comic. And if the Siliconera leak pans out, it'll be Urien.

They could just be bringing Gill back as the Boss.
Juri is connected to S.I.N., not the Illuminati (unless such a connection was mentioned in the comics).

I'm going with Juri being DLC. The fact that Rainbow Mika was revealed & the allusion towards an Illuminati rep via the Charlie comic (both of which are things that Siliconera called), I doubt that we'll get anyone from SF4 in the base roster.
You could apply that logic to Rainbow Mika, an Alpha character who didn't make the cut for SF4.
Ono was going to ride for Mika no matter what, and he did try to get her into 4 we don't know why she was denied.
In theory, she would make sense. However, Vega's inclusion killed any hope that I had left for Juri in the base roster (since, when you account for Siliconera & Ken Bogard, there was only 1 wild card slot left). That being said, Ono could pull a fast one on us. But considering that Siliconera got Rainbow Mika right & are poised to get Urien right as well, I doubt that there's anymore room for Juri in the Initial 16.
Then what about Karin?
