Though honestly, I hope over the 6 or 7 year lifespan of the game they add every previous SF character along with some newcomers.
...I rather they just make new characters.

No its not if I have you what your argument is. If you are saying people will buy popular characters, fine, but your definition of popular seems to be different than other people. R.Mika and Karin are popular characters people would be excited to return and would sell as DLC if Capcom would choose that route for them.
This isn't a Tanya or Tremor situation vs. Jason and Predator. Jason and Predator have mass mainstream appeal vs the relatively obscure MK games they are fun.
People know who Karin, or R. Mika are.
Got a notice that the servers are going down for maintenance tomorrow from 7am to 4pm pst.
That's...kind of all day?
mmmm
i dunno about that.
To be fair, that didn't stop Birdie.I think that folks think way to highly of their favorite characters.
I like alex, I ain't pretending anyone knows who that actually is.
Don't underestimate the Wiki WarriorsI think that folks think way to highly of their favorite characters.

the hardcore fans do yes, but SF4 is the reason fighting games are even alive today and more people played SF4 then any of the alpha games. you also said it yourself alot of the casual fans tend to taper off so out of the gate you want those core big name SF4 charterers as early DLC not alpha ones
so it makes sense to frontload SF5 with alpha guys or down the line when only the hardcore are left
Yah I would say third strike characters would be more recently in casual and new players' minds. SFA series definitely less so, only old people like me kappa.Don't underestimate the Wiki Warriors![]()
And actually, in the case of Alex, 3rd Strike Online Edition probably helped him and others from SF3 get some new recognition
Will be interesting to hear the projected character dlc count. There's what 8 characters per KI season?Guys..... you're gonna get EVERYONE.gif

They already talked about it as Street Fighter as a service. They're going to keep bringing out characters until they stop selling.

At least Birdie was in 4 games before thisPeople don't want to admit that Mika is Birdie tier on the SF totem pole
The SFV hype is real
There's a poster of Fei Long in Bustling Side Street, but that's it. All signs point to Karin being the rekka character of the SFV base roster. All i need is Fei Long. Are there any news or rumors about him?
To be fair, that didn't stop Birdie.
maybe they were forgetting for a reason? nostalgia is a hell of a thing, and even when they bring back old characters they will play totally different only be the same in name and look
it appears at least 1 more alpha character will come back for sure but to leave out any SF4 imo would be a mistake SF4 is the reason fighting games came back to life and has a HUGE fan base
I really want a new black girl. Elena's not the one I wanted. They can do better.
We're most likely getting at least one SF3 character in the form of an Illuminati rep (see the Charlie Nash comic), so I wouldn't worry.SF4 roster is my least fav in the series, none of the new characters introduced excited me at all even the ones created for later iterations of SF4. Mad respect to Capcom if they actually do avoid all those characters for the initial roster in SFV.
Mika was a relief but the inclusion of Vega makes me scared that maybe the green section is for SF2/4 cast. SF3 roster relagated to dlc would be such a loss. They are my fav and the most vibrant characters since playing SF on my Sega system 20 odd years ago. I would have prefered we get 4 3S reps but a minimum of 2 is sorely needed. If that happens it will be my fav roster since 3S.
I must be driving on the wrong road, because I don't see these signs? There's a poster of Fei Long in Bustling Side Street, but that's it. All signs point to Karin being the rekka character of the SFV base roster.
I must be driving on the wrong road, because I don't see these signs?
Point to them please?
Ta-da! That plus Karin is Rainbow Mika's sponsor.I must be driving on the wrong road, because I don't see these signs?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh![]()
There's also a poster of Maki, Haggar, and Guy in the London stage.
I already posted the Karin thing. She was leaked alongside Rainbow Mika, Alex, & Urien.Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I fail to see the karin connection? Is it because he's there that he won't appear in base?

EDIT on Neos post, yea I remember that. Same website that says Urien is coming back
I believe
The only thing Chun lost from the initial reveal was air Tensei Ranka, but she got air legs in it's place
Familiarity is a good thing, too. Not every character needs to be wildly different from their previous incarnations, there's nothing wrong with Ryu being a "safe place" for people that played previous games. Cammy is the only one I'd call a disappointment because she has basically nothing new besides a couple new normals and she has the most uninspired VS and VT in the game.
Ryu is an excellent zoner from mid range. Activate v-trigger to zone from 3/4 and full screen and mixup the holding times and ex versions. If your anti air sucks tho zoning wont be effective. Everyone should be afraid to jump on you.theres so little zoning in this game. also, i agree...chun li's movelist is rather sparse in this game.
Ono was quite clear during SF4s development that they were focusing on the SSF2 cast and the most popular characters from each series, and that they were avoiding "weirdos" which is short-hand for most of the SF3 cast. Let's be frank, Blanka, Dhalsim and even Vega and Honda are weirder than some of the SF3 cast members.
Anyway. Their stance on SF5 is the opposite. It's "we want to surprise you" and "we don't follow popularity polls" meaning they don't give a fuck and are focusing on gameplay as wekk as bringing back as many post-2 characters that weren't in 4 as possible.
For anyone complaining about SF5 going for less popular characters or whining "where are my SF2 characters and Dan and Sakura", if you ever complained about the SF3 cast in the past, calling them "ugly", "weird", "un-SF" or claimed the SF2 cast was the "core" of the franchise, then you have nobody but yourself to blame. SF4 was the game that catered to you, because Capcom were deathly afraid of not capturing as wide an audience as possible by excluding fan favorites.
They've been steadily removing things from Chun since 3, along with changing her animations to be less interesting. Starting with her losing Tenshokyaku, which got turned into an auto-combo in 4. Now it's been stolen by Cammy and Chun has lost it completely again. She lost her 1-handed Kikoken from 3 in favor of the old 2-handed one to make her more like her SF2-incarnation which was just silly. Now she's lost Hazanshu in favor of Senenshu, which makes no sense from a continuity-perspective.
Aside from her lacking Tenshokyaku her SF3 incarnation was the best one.
Necro really deserves to come back. I also want Dudley in as the prerequisite boxer.I played some 3S last night and it reminded me how much I want Necro in a new game. We dont have Blanka or Dhalsim, it could happen.... Plz![]()

Chun's V-trigger also changed from the Dual Kikoko because it was just filling the screen with fireballs.
I don't like that they changed that. Dual Kikokens would be fine if limited to two on screen.
Toriyama doesn't like gohan? I thought he was the strongest in the universe but doesn't like to fight?Boo-fuckin'-yah.
Capcom better not have some secret hate for Chun-Li like Toriyama seems to have for Gohan. She's still my favorite female cast member in the series (for various reasons. Yes one of those reasons is because of her thick thighs) and it just seems counter-productive to continually remove things from her.
Why does Ryu get to learn new tricks but not Chun-Li?
Necro really deserves to come back. I also want Dudley in as the prerequisite boxer.
He doesn't, & has been slacking on his training as a result (Vegeta even called him out on it before the Buu Saga).Toriyama doesn't like gohan? I thought he was the strongest in the universe but doesn't like to fight?
