Man, I dont want to discredit Fukushima but I really dont get this weird narrative thats being painted to heavily imply that he was the gel that held the writing of this series together.

MGS has always been riddled with bad pacing, shoddy writing, and several outright horrible moments. Its part of the charm. Lets not pretend like it started after Fukushima left.

It got worse after he left. It was always there, but after he left now we just get what seems like a schizoids fever dream.

Yeah, I kind of thought that it'd be him. That guy's there when you start up GZ, and then after finishing GZ, he's not there on the menu screen (and BB is bloodied up ala after MB is destroyed/before Paz Bomb)

That's absolutely true, and I don't want to paint MGS1-3 like they were all sugar and roses* (and god knows, they really, really weren't). I just feel like there was a bit more of a considerable nose dive after MGS3 in regards to the supporting cast, the introducing of plot points, and the pacing of the story. The cutscenes in MGS4 drove me pretty crazy, even as someone who loves cutscenes! They often managed to completely stall the story, instead of moving it forward. (Hilariously, Solid Snake himself escaped fairly unscathed in MGS4, thankfully. He just got old, poor kid.) At any rate, I'm curious how MGS5 will feel when I finally get to sit down to play it. I've loved what I've seen cutscene-wise thus far.

To get back to the thread topic - apologies! - I'm going to make the ugliest Medic Snake ever.

*I'm still not sure how anyone thought Ocelot with Liquid's arm was a good idea.

I haven't seen the scene yet, (probably gonna when I play the game) but I fucking KNEW that they were gonna alter the flashback scenes to include our customized character, fucking knew it. I didn't say anything but I knew it. Goddamn it.

Kojima has said he wished he didn't kill Liquid in MGS1. So he had to think of some way to bring him back, and he came up with "via arm." This apparently makes much more sense than "Actually Liquid didn't die."

Just read through the last few pages and what the fuck... Really gives some credence to idea that Kojima is a hack.

This is some worse than Dallas the TV show ending shit.

Has anyone else thought about the possibility that Kiefer was chosen because you are not playing as Big Boss? Like of course Venom wouldn't have the same voice; he's not BB. So that's why Hayter wasn't brought back. I'm sure there is a legit reason, but I couldn't help to think about it.

Just the writing... He's a genius when it comes to marketing, innovating, and making you feel.

Ishmael is also voiced by Sutherland. Kojima just liked him better.

MGS4: Features a play dead mechanic. Never uses it in the plot.

MGSV: Does not have a play dead mechanic. Features it in the tutorial.

Sounds legit.

Venom was there all this time

The strange part is in the flashback of the helicopter scene in the game he's wearing a mask, I don't think anyone would've suspected anything if the medic wore a mask yet was still voiced by Kiefer.

You were playing Big Boss in Ground Zeroes and that was Kiefer, so no.

Lordy. I think even Liquid cloning Liquid would have been less awkward. (...but that is also terrible. Anything but the arm, though!)

Also, if someone could customise an in-game Medic that looks like the Kiefer-model Medic from GZ, the circle of Kiefer is complete.

Blaustein localized the script and accordin to him was the assistant voice director. He was fired because kojima's translator, Scott Dolphins, did not like his work.
The transactions between Snake and Hal are tight, amazing, and well done in the Tanker mission. MGS3 is campy but it's a lot of fun and the voice acting compliments what they were going for... But MGS had everything, nothing was wasted. Those codec conversations set a high bar.

Yeah. I heard him on a podcast years ago. Blaustein did not get along with Dolph, and I had the feeling that Dolph was Kojima's favorite, hence why he named a character after him.

THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANTED OUT OF KEIFER
We're at two extremes of the spectrum, BB now rarely talks so a good amount of conversations seem awkward, there are a ton of ways to make him talk during plenty of scenes in the game without having him awkwardly reiterate what we just saw. For example, during the scene where he and Skullface are in the jeep, and Skullace finishes his speech and the theme starts playing, it would've been a much more epic character moment, if they had Big Boss offer his own speech as a retort while that song is playing in the background instead of literally five minutes of them awkwardly staring at each other with just the music playing.

Arm, no arm, they brought Cam Clarke back to voice Liquid in some amazing scenes so it was absolutely the correct creative decision.

Throughout the game Miller and Ocelot are telling you how to be Big Boss. Goes without saying you are'nt Big Boss then. Only question left is did Medic/Venom know all along and played along or was he manipulated or hypnotized etc into thinking he was Big Boss? I think he knew all along.

Also, while the arm thing itself is really dumb, I do like how it led to Ocelot's backstory in 3 (and the relatively subtle way that was handled).

He's brought back characters before. Liquids death wasn't that definitive. He just sort of fell over.
