In the first ending of The Phantom Pain, Venom Snake puts a tape marked "Operation Intrude N313" into an MSX2 data recording deck. The tape then emits a high-pitched squeling sound and boots up an MSX2 connected to the deck:

In Ground Zeroes, you collect a tape called "Classified Intel Data" which, when data-mined, makes exactly the same high-pichted squealing noise:

This is apparently the same noise an MSX2 used to make when loading saved data from a cassette tape.

I'm not saying this confirms anything at all, but HOLY CRAP!

Metal Gear 1 remake as the 3rd ending anyone? ;-)

In the first ending of The Phantom Pain we've all seen, Venom Snake puts a tape marked "Operation Intrude" into an MSX data recording deck. The tape then emits a high-squeling sound and boots up an MSX connected to the deck:

Metal Gear 1 remake as the 3rd ending anyone?

An entire country with a base having 100 underground floors?

Not even possible even if they spend 10 years making it.

Pretty sure we didn't see the entire country or the 100 undeground floors in the MSX2 version of Metal Gear 1, who why would we in a remake?

And we play in Afghanistan in The Phantom Pain, doesn't mean we see the whole country ;-)

1 map Afghanistan size, reusing most of its assets. Only relevant rooms and floors unlockable.
Maybe even all boss fights besides BB cut out.

Outer Heaven is the most mythical place in the series and there is no need to scamp it by doing a mutilated or amputated remake here. If someday it will happen, let it be perfect.

From the guide

- At 150,000 Heroism points, you become a “Hero” giving you a trophy and lets you infiltrate FOBs even if they have a nuclear weapon deterrent.

- The opposite is Demon Snake status which causes your horn to grow. The last threshold in Demon points results in the longer horn and causes you to be soaked in blood at all times.

- Choosing to research a nuke instantly gives you -50,000 Heroism points and +50,000 Demon points.

Not sure what else nukes do, but at least now it sounds like choosing to create one might result in you shutting off FOB invasions to some people.

Where are you getting this from? ;-)

I don't even think there is a 3rd ending at this point. :\ Would love to be proven wrong though.

I genuinely don't mind Venom not being Big Boss (I quite like it, actually), and hilariously, it does give a reason why BB seemed to have 99 lives. That being said, the one thing that disappoints me is that I feel like the fallout of the revelation is a lot more compelling than the twist itself, but the game obviously stops before we can see any of that. Kaz, if I've got my spoilers straight, didn't know about The Twist prior, but then goes on to work with Venom for awhile afterward. Both of them dealing with that could have potential: Venom, with the fallout of realising he isn't the original BB, and Kaz' multi-layered 'BB isn't the swell dude I thought he was/Venom isn't BB at all' issues. Even Venom confronting Ocelot afterwards! Something, anything! It also feels a bit unsatisfying because instead of seeing Kaz and Ocelot in the final scene, we just get to hear them interacting. I know the intention is for it to be dramatic, but it feels a bit detached.

I completely know that the following could easily be extremely narmy, but having BB and Venom interact in a form after the revelation as an ending might have given some closure. I'm being optimistic that it wouldn't be an entire trainwreck. (Well, maybe.) I suppose with Venom being a surrogate for the player, showing any reactions (sans smirk) he had to the revelation might not be in line with ours. I guess I'd prefer Venom to be less of an avatar and a concept, and be more his own character, which is main disappointment I've had with what I've seen of the game. Yes, we're all Big Boss, it's very touching.

I do hope there is a Day 1 patch that triggers something. I really do like the idea behind it, but the execution of the idea feels a bit hollow for me personally. I guess I feel like we had the shocking twist, but we didn't get the closure? We know Venom's fate, but I want more of Venom dealing with his fate. (More along the lines of Snake's clone revelations in MGS1.) Even if we did get to play through a warped version of Snake vs. Venom, it would at least be something.

I think if there was a third ending someone would've found it by now.

Also do they ever explain how Venom thinks he's Big Boss? Transplanted memories? Parasites?

Dementia. It has even been said in MGS1 story summary about MG1.

Someone who wasn't to be what he is can fall in such psychological madness of having too much power (look his smirk at the end when Big Boss told him you are Big Boss) that he won't be able to and thus getting the spremacy complex which turns into dmentia in the final state.

What is the use of the stealth camo if the shadow of the user can still be seen ?

Was just walking around when a small pup starts barking, its D-Dog my bud! Was pretty awesome finding him just randomly like that.

If you don't save him, you won't be able to use him as buddy, same goes for Quiet. So hurry, save him.

So when VS flips the tape (The Man who Sold the World to Operation Intrude N313) and puts it into the MSX recording deck and it boots up the MSX2 people are thinking that there could be something unlocked that will give us more information about it?

Isn't it basically just symbolizing that the first part of the operation is over and BB is giving VS information on his new mission? I'm pretty sure there's nothing else after this tbh.

Then why put a tape that contains the same thing in Ground Zeroes as well? And I'm sure I read somewhere a while ago that the Ground Zeroes tape is half an MSX2 save file.

Will dig around and see if I can find this info again ;-)

Really? But since MGS2 you could go through every section in every MGS game without killing. Maybe just let Ishmael kill those two soldiers in the corridor and in the big hall where Volgin appears, just sneak through.
If that's possible then the answer is yes.

You are talking about the MSX and MSX2 consoles right? I didn't see the consoles at the end of the game, only a tape recorder to read teh tape. What do you mean by MSX and MSX2 then?

People are going to he mad that theyre not playing Big Boss. But its so damn good. Because it might be what Kojima wanted- players to emulate the idea of Big Boss and to play out the trickery. Its like a more fucked up version of MGS2s theme.

Nah, I'm pretty sure you see this in the game there as well

Do you feel Saw vibe from it? Big Boss has been there in the hospital watching you just like in the movie and maybe for the entire game and then he communicates with you through the tapes and tries to create another him just like in the movies.

Someone knows a list of all the tapes? From the guide maybe?

Is "Calling to the Night" and "Quiet's Theme" in as tapes? And if yes, which versions? Those ugly Donna Burke covers or the normal versions?

It's a good premise, but it's execution leaves quite a lot to be desired imho. Not to mention how obvious they make it, the only twist that seems subtle is the flashback with two big bosses inside the helicopter.

Saw definitely wasnt something that came up in my mind.

I wonder how explicit the character creation is? Like does it say its for mgo? The execution couldve definitely have been done better. People have been guessing boss double shenanigans since it was revealed TPP was MGSV. Even then the medic strengthened those theories in GZ last year.

It gets props for not being a complete bullshit out of no where twist since people logically, correctly theorized avout it.

I'm not blown away from what I've seen. Saw mission 46 and I dunno man, replaying all of the prologue just seems really odd to me. I think the twist as an idea can be cool but I'm not so sure about how it was executed.

I feel like it would have worked better if the reveal was shown 2/3 in the game, then have the fallout from that be the climax. Instead of having it be the ending itself.

I could imagine why Kojima went this route though. As much as we all like to see Gray Fox and Sniper Wolf adventures, it would just be rehashing plot points everyone knows already.

I'm really glad I did end up spoiling myself, because I think I would have been really disappointed. Not because of Venom not being Big Boss, but because it's like getting to the big shocking twist in a film, and then cinema suddenly goes to black. By the time they get the film rolling again, it's skipped to the ending and you've missed all the good stuff. I know how Venom's story eventually ends (Snake killing Venom), but man, what happens immediately next? Weirdly unsatisfying. Everyone's mileage may completely vary, obviously, and (ETA) br0ken_shad0w does make a good point about rehashing plot points.

I would say everyone needs to play through the game once it's properly out before judging it, I see the potential, but too much is missing.

I still don't get it. The guide leaks say that Paz is a ghost while the playthrough (still running) confirms that she is real and Venom Snake brings her photos to make her remember and she is still in Mother Base at the moment of speaking even after the game is finished. Well the guide leaks say that Ishmael may not be the real Big Bossand just a hallucination but form what I saw, both Paz and Ihsmael are real and there is no doubt in that.

So, does Paz actually do anything, or is she still sitting in the sickbay in the ending?
