Really? Do you have a device with Force Touch? Because I have two different devices with it, and I think you're completely wrong. It will simulate a button press, which is a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Many of you need to actually try Force Touch before dismissing it as an unworthy feature. In reality, the 6/6+ keepers are missing out on a huge hardware upgrade.
I thought on the phone all it does is differentiate between a soft and hard press.

Even if it "clicks" like the MacBook pad I don't see how it's going to be any better than the current phone since the entire phone's face will be one "button." It's not going to feel like there's physical buttons you can rest a thumb on, so I don't see how it's going to make much of a difference.

6S+ has not been revealed yet.

Well assuming 2 gig of ram, force touch, and a faster chip is true....it looks like it's in line with previous "s" upgrades. Probably much better in general performance but not a big enough design overhaul to force an immediate switch.

too early after purchase to be implemented into product

If the A9 is 14/16nm and the modem chip is the 9x35, there are all your power savings to offset the smaller battery. Though, a better screen would help as well.

Read up on mLED some more and it indeed seems a way off. I wonder if OLED might be a possibility though? With Force Touch adding to the thickness of the display, going with a thinner panel seems logical in this case, along with the power savings it brings. The flexibility of the display is something to consider as well, as it probably had part in the choice of OLED in the Apple Watch?

EDIT: I hope Venturebeats sources are correct!

The pictures and video that users shoot with the 6S’s improved camera will look better when viewed on the phone itself. VentureBeat sources said last spring that Apple was working with a far brighter OLED screen for its next phone. We expect this to ship with the new 6S.

That would be fantastic. And since they added a bunch of wallpapers to iOS9 with really dark backgrounds, it can only be a sign.

Yeah that's a lot of stuff:

- iOS 9
- iphone 6s/6s+
- watchOS 2
- new watch bands
- Apple TV
- iPad Pro/ mini 4

Everything was iOS

Gurman says no new Macs next week, so seems they'll still be a smaller event in Oct.

I still don't understand why we need the iPad Pro. But I hope it's something more than just a larger iPad with the same OS and no actual Pro changes. I understand we can't and shouldn't have OS X on a tablet but iOS is gonna need more than just side-by-side multitasking to be a real Pro OS on it.

If it comes out.

I'm kinda partial to the idea of slowly merging iOS and OS X together to the point where the two can automatically switch between them and we can have magical MacBooks that transform. But not until it is ready to. Maybe have iOS and OS X both on it and have it switch between OSes when transformed and allow for certain apps that have versions for each to automatically transfer the data between them. I know I'd gladly make my next MacBook a transformer. But I wouldn't just want OS X with touch support. (Apple would probably disable touch when in OS X mode, but as long as a hack can be created by a third party to enable it again, it'll be fine.) First and foremost though, OS X MUST remain OS X and iOS MUST remain iOS. It's why Windows 8 failed. Thankfully Apple never fell into that trap.

Then again, I plan on getting an iPhone 6S+ which would replace my tablet needs. So I don't even need a giant or even normal sized tablet.

But I'm looking forward to seeing if this long drawn out rumor finally comes true.

If the iPad Pro isn't running MacOS, it's not a Pro.

I'm in need of the new mini though as long as it has 2 gigs of ram. My mini 2 still functions well, but I'm tired of reloading tabs.

If the iPad Pro has reworked home screen/notification center/siri interface stuff, here's hoping the same works its way down to the other iPads. Notification Center is kind of absurdly ill-utilized on the iPad screen.

I just want a bigger iPad in 12". I only use mine at home and want more screen estate. Especially when watching Twitch etc.

if they don't offer a bigger version soon I'm considering getting a Surface pro.

Gotta justify that giant venue switch! While I really doubt all that'll be there I'd be happy to be wrong!

iPad pro, surface pro 4 or Lenovo mix 700. Will decide in November when they should all be available.

I wonder why a mini 4 but no air 3? If they spec bump the mini it'll be on par with the air 2

What is the new iPad pro suppose to have ? Or is it just suppose to be bigger ?

iPad is just a bigger iPhone.

Larger, throw in the recent side by side multitasking and cursor controls, and continuity - maybe bring out a keyboard cover with trackpad, active stylus?

Even without full OSX, it would almost be guaranteed to get support from the big app developers like Adobe etc for more fully featured apps like Lightroom or illustrator. Designed to be more capable to run more full fat applications, and also work well connected to macs via continuity.

I can't help but think the new iPad "Pro" will be a disappointment.

The iPad is a wonderful device that has actual use nowadays considering its app selection. But, it's far from a "Pro" device - and I don't think making it slightly bigger or giving it a stylus is going to change that.

The Surface line has a lot of faults - but it also has a lot of things Apple could take and improve on.

I don't see a need for a change to the Air 2. It handles multitasking beautifully. The Mini 2/3 however is really showing its age.

I think I may have confirmed that iPhone 6s will have an OLED display. Hear me out.

I read this iPhone 6 front panel disassembly on ifixit and it shows the connection order of all the flex cables on the motherboard. So I gathered the iPhone needs 2 cables to operate the display; one digitizer cable and one display data cable.

Assuming the connection order is the same for 6s, that would mean the connector circled in red is for the front camera, earphone speaker and sensors:

(Screenshot taken from this video)

The vertical cable to the right is the Touch ID and Home button cable.
The horizontal cable with metal coating is the digitizer cable, and underneath that is the display data cable which is covered from view.

So I found this leaked picture of the bare 6s motherboard on MacRumors so we can have a look under the cables:

Note that it has one less connector on the board, it is clearly missing the display data connection point in comparison to previous iPhones. The last connector on the top, the one closest to the edge is for the rear camera.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but OLED displays only needs one connector as the pixels themselves light up and are in no need of backlight, right?

The iPad Pro is the result of Apple becoming the company for the people, rather than the company that did what they wanted to do.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but OLED displays only needs one connector as the pixels themselves light up and are in no need of backlight, right?

Huh? I really don't understand your logic at all. Why would a separate backlight require its own data cable from the board?

Well I if the digitizer handles inputs on the screen then I assume the data cable provided the image as well as the backlight for the LCD. It seems the iPhone 6s will only use one cable for all screen functions.

If you're making the assumption that one less connector means the display is OLED, you're incorrect. iPhone displays have always used one cable to drive both the display and the backlight, and another cable for the touch input digitizer.

I don't think that will have changed with the 6S. More likely, some buttons and sensors that used to be on two different cables have been combined into a single flex cable. I'm pretty sure there is a leaked part showing the volume, mute, power buttons and I believe the ambient light sensor on a single cable.

Why is that incorrect? As I said above they used to have 2 cables, yeah.

But it has changed. Let's say they still use a LCD, that would imply they have combined the digitizer and data/backlight into 1 cable. Doable, I'm sure. But with the addition of Force Touch that would mean they have also have that going in the same cable as well, which begins to sound more unlikely.

OLED displays, not needing backlight and seen to use only 1 cable for both digitizer/data in other phones seems more likely to have been combined with a Force Touch digitizer for the single connector available on the 6s logic board. Also, LCD's are rigid while OLED is flexible and able to bend under pressure.

Do you have the link for that? But you're right. The power, control and back flash cable seem to have been combined when comparing with the leaked board. Here's the location of the connectors on iPhone 6:

Would love to see the oled, but I don't see it happening on an S cycle. My guess is us comes with the 7, dual cameras and new industrial design as the main differentiators.

What I'm wondering is if OLED, with its flexibility, is needed to work well with Force Touch?

I think I may have confirmed that iPhone 6s will have an OLED display. Hear me out.

Apple's not going to introduce three major upgrade on an "S" model. They already have Force Touch and the revamped camera. I doubt Apple will want to blow their load early. Next screen upgrade will come with the 2016 iPhone (whatever it's called).

I want a new iPad Air, so I will be disappointed if it doesn't get an upgrade next week. having said that I'm quite curious to see what they have in store for the iPad Pro, especially when it comes to the stylus.

Definitely in for the new Apple TV.

What's funny about that? It would actually be an excellent device is it matches the specs on the Air 2 exactly. Air 2 is still a beast
The Air 2 uses an A8X. It's not going to match that. I find it funny because the mini has to wait a year to get a year old chip, unlike the other iPads.

Really want a new iPad as my iPad 3 is soooo slow. Want an iPad Air though and refuse to get a new one until hey refresh it, hope they don't skip it entirely this year.

Because you're jumping to conclusions. Having one less connector on the logic board does not mean the display assembly is being combined into one connector does not mean there is not enough bandwidth for that connector to control and power the display assembly does not mean they're switching to OLED.

Of those you assumptions, the second is probably more likely to be correct. But wouldn't the obvious answer then be that other components have been put onto a single flex cable, rather than it being the comparatively bandwidth heavy display assembly.

If you need any evidence, just look at the leaked parts of the display assembly sans Touch ID/Home button, front camera, and front sensors. Both the 6s and 6s Plus parts have two connectors.

No new normal sized Ipad?

that's the scuttlebutt.

seems odd to me, but I can imagine Apple potentially having limited resources and focusing on the mini (which had a terrible update last year) and something new: the pro.

ipad air 2 is still a beast, so that makes the possible lack of upgrade easier to deal with, i think.

Makes sense. The Air 2 is still great. I imagine they don't want to take attention away from the pro.

Interesting, I guess that would leave them able to do a big jump next year?

Not a bad move as you said - the Mini line really needs an upgrade after the joke of the mini 3 so I guess it would make sense.

I have a 5s and AT&T with unlimited data. I want to upgrade but what's the situation on AT&T offering phones as they have in the past? Is it even possible or am I stuck?
