Because you're jumping to conclusions. Having one less connector on the logic board does not mean the display assembly is being combined into one connector does not mean there is not enough bandwidth for that connector to control and power the display assembly does not mean they're switching to OLED.

Of those you assumptions, the second is probably more likely to be correct. But wouldn't the obvious answer then be that other components have been put onto a single flex cable, rather than it being the comparatively bandwidth heavy display assembly.

If you need any evidence, just look at the leaked parts of the display assembly sans Touch ID/Home button, front camera, and front sensors. Both the 6s and 6s Plus parts have two connectors.

I don't think that's correct. While the leaked images of the 6s display assembly does have 2 cables, one of them is for the Touch ID. It's routed underneath the shielding to the bottom of the screen for Home button connection. Like this iPhone 6 example:

The Touch ID can be seen poking out on the bottom on the leaked 6s:

I have a 5s and AT&T with unlimited data. I want to upgrade but what's the situation on AT&T offering phones as they have in the past? Is it even possible or am I stuck?
ATT does not have subsidized phones anymore. No reason why you should not be able to buy your phone at full price or make monthly payments and stay on unlimited. They would be crazy to remove people from plans just for activating a new phone.

Just remember you are paying for a plan based on subsidies you are not getting anymore. :/

iPad Pro with stylus has me intrigued. I'm a big believer that all tablets need real stylus support because it's a huge untapped potential for software, especially in productivity but also games. Of course there is ample room to screw it up, a capacitive/bluetooth stylus is fairly worthless but if they can get something meaningful it could change the game for a lot of Android tablets which are unfortunately nothing but "me too" machines.

13" is too big for me though. Not even a huge fan of 10" 3:4 but hopefully it changes the overall baseline.

You can upgrade either by joining the Next plan (monthly payments towards the phone, no interest) or buying the phone outright. No more 2 year contracts, unless you buy it from AT&T's website. You can keep your data plan the same, but you'll have higher line access fees because you're not on a mobile share value plan (line access fees are the $40/month smartphone fees)

Even better.
It may be the dream people have had forever, but it's exactly what Apple has been actively avoiding and the whole reason iOS or the concept of a mobile smart OS even exists. But we'll see. I just don't see Apple letting that one thing go. Touch screen controlling of OS X. If anything it'll be iOS with some deeper features. But then I'd rather have all that stuff in all of iOS and not just on a big-ass iPad.

It's gonna be 2 hours long, isn't it? :(
They're always around 2 hours. If anything this might be longer if there's so much content. And maybe a musical guest. Whoever Apple likes this month. Taylor Swift maybe? (Hahaha. Probably not. Though...)

Well, 1.5 hours seemed to be just right. I think it was the watch event that went on too long. And I think it was last year's iPhone event it seemed like they were flying and that was 1.5 hrs. (I'm just going off memory here.)

E: You know, maybe I'm thinking of the Music event that went on too long, for WWDC.

I really hope that 32gb will be the new entry level on the phones but thats probably just a dream.. Been using a Lumia 920 for around 30 months but its living on the edge withh cracked screen etc. Sucks that the lack off apps forces me to change to ios or android.

Pretty much confirmed it's 16GB

Really want a new iPad as my iPad 3 is soooo slow. Want an iPad Air though and refuse to get a new one until hey refresh it, hope they don't skip it entirely this year.

If they don't update it, the air 2 is a great device. I updated from an air 1 mainly for the laminated display which is great, but the increased ram is fantastic for safari

apple music & icloud whatevers mean they don't have to push 32gb.

12" 3:2 on the surface pro is great. Basically a pad of paper in your hand.

Apple planning to bring 4K screen to 21.5-inch iMac in October
http://9to5mac.com/2015/09/03/4k-imac-october-november/

I can't justify buying an iMac at all, but the 5k screen looks sooooooo sexy

Apple still using 3:2 was a driving force in me getting an iPad over cheaper tablets. 16:9 just ain't good for comics/reading

Luckily the Surface is also 3:2, so I can take a long look at those when I'm deciding what cheaper Windows tablet I want for Xbox/PC streaming

Yeah, but any conscientious Apple buyer knows that it's best to buy right when a device is new.

An iPad Pro with stylus sounds very interesting.
Currently I still have an iPad 2, I never saw a reason to upgrade. But now it might finally be worth it.

I'm all in for a new iPhone. I want to upgrade my 5S but I can wait for this newer release.

I hope there's something about new Macbook Pro models. My current one, is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Actually now that you mention it, that makes sense. I dislike the current ratio because it sucks for media consumption but for writing that could be very different.

uhhh confusing

uhhh confusing

For all intents and purposes, AT&T does not do 2 year contracts (subsidized) phones anymore. There's workarounds if you buy online or are a business customer, but let's just say that 2 year contracts are dead. As of right now, the options are A) Next plan, take the full price of the phone and divide it out over X number of months, no interest. This gets added onto your bill. B) just buy the phone outright, full price, no contracts

Both these options will let you keep your unlimited data

TO GET MORE IN-DEPTH:

All smartphones on AT&T have a "line access fee". This is typically how the carriers made back their money when you were buying an iPhone for $299 that's really supposed to be $750. For years and years with a 2 year contract that line fee has been $40/month. Now, with the Next plan, since they're adding the cost of the phone onto your bill, they've decided to drop the line access fee to either $15 or $25 depending on how much data you have. But this only counts if you hop off of unlimited data and onto one of their new plans, since they're doing everything in their power to get you off unlimited. So essentially, to keep unlimited data you have to ALSO stick with the $40/month line access fee, in addition to paying full price for the phone.

What's everybody talking about? AT&T Still offers subsidized upgrades you just can't buy them directly from the store anymore. If you do a subsidized upgrade it has to be either online or if you do it in-store they'll make an online order for the device and you'll get it shipped to you.

That being said if you're on one of the Mobile Share Plans you'd be better off using AT&T NEXT instead.

For the moment, sure. That's also why I said "for all intents and purposes" since I expect only a small number of people actually buy their phones directly from AT&Ts website.

Also I fully expect 2 year contracts to be totally gone within a year

You can either buy the phone outright ($600 to $1000, depending on model), or subsidize the phone at a monthly fee, depending on your pay period (12, 18, or 24 months), that amount gets added to your bill. If you don't want to pay more you could switch your plan, but you will lose your unlimited data.

Wow that is ass

Wow that is ass

AT&T really really really really wants to force people off that unlimited data

And yeah, like mentioned, you can avoid all that by buying on AT&T's online store and going with the 2 year contract. That way you're still paying $40/month line access but you only pay $300 for the phone, instead of $750+. But expect that option to be gone next time

This is true ! Just checked on my account and could upgrade to 6+ 16gb for $299 2yr and so on.

The iPad Pro is the result of Apple becoming the company for the people, rather than the company that did what they wanted to do.

Apple has a pretty good gig. Do what you want for x years, then offer something to people who want a x86 PC in tab form, big phones, Android features, etc.

I'm curious how they are going to show pricing as the major carriers are now contract free. I feel like it's going to be a little crazy seeing the 6s+ 128 gb for 949. Even 649 for for the base 6s is gonna be scary to a lot of people.

Anyone downsizing from a 6+ to a 6s? Or regret getting the 6+ over the 6?

Debating if I want to go for the big one or not? I'll be finally upgrading from a 5.

Most people are now subscribed to the monthly payment plans in place of them. I suspect most people's expressions are going to be "just that much a month? Hell yeah I'll take that new iphone!".

I can confirm this is exactly what happens

"$750, no fucking way! Oh wait, only $25 per month? Yeah alright"

Carriers switching to financing instead of subsidies hasn't really slowed down sales at all

Will that be available, you think, at launch of the iPhone or should I wait a few weeks?

I am going from 16GB 6+ -> 64GB 6s.

The only reason I would go with a 6s+ is if:

-Battery life is for some reason extraordinarily worse
-2GB RAM in 6s+ only
-Camera improvements to 6s+ heavily outweigh those in 6s.

I highly doubt any of those will happen. So I'm confident I'll be preordering a 6s.
