Tom Brady beats NFL in 'Deflategate' court case, league's 4-game suspension nullified

The verdict pretty much admits that Tom Brady had full knowledge of the balls being deflated. It isn't about evidence, it's common sense that you're not allowed to deflate the football. But because he wasn't informed that he did nothing wrong. That's how it is being described. That's a joke.

I'm reading it now, and it does nothing of the sort. The judge isn't making a judgment one way or the other on whether he did it, but it's pretty clear from his questioning, writing, and footnotes that he's not convinced of that fact based on what the NFL presented as its 'proof'.

I don't know if it's a good idea to make fun of this with a suicide hotline picture.

Point taken, removing. Forgot myself joking with Jabee about NFL shanigans but there are people who have serious problems out there and I shouldn't use that photo to make light about a recreational sport. Thanks for calling me out on it.

The Judge's ruling wasn't about whether or not Tom Brady cheated.

The ruling was about the NFL commissioner's overreach of power and a lack of consistent penalty system for offenders.

Tom Brady is not acquitted of cheating. There is most certainly enough evidence to show he did cheat to win football games.

The problem is overreach by the Commissioner and the lack of a neutral arbitrator for the appeal. The CBA should NEVER have been allowed to give the Commish complete oversight for investigation and penalties, even though the dumbass players signed it.

No there isn't and you know you can't even point to any evidence to prove your bullshit. It's amazing.

Someone needs to do one of those screen capture posts that shows two different threads next to each other in a humorous juxtaposition; the two threads being this one and the "work is making all of us turn in our cell phones" thread.

No one said that is what the ruling meant.

Also, where is "There is most certainly enough evidence to show he did cheat to win football games"

Where?

Can someone explain to me why a Federal judge has the power to overturn a ruling in the NFL? The NFL is a private organization with their own rules and regulations.

Because you still have to be fair. Just because you sign a CBA doesn't mean you lose your right to a fair process.

Let's not overstate things here. There's a reasonable amount of evidence that there were efforts to slightly underinflate footballs and that Brady knew about it. But there's little or no support for the notion that it was a significant factor in any wins, while there's plenty of evidence that the PSI was irrelevant to their wins.

Goodell is measured by the owners based on money. As long as he makes them millions, he could be the greatest idiot on the face of the planet and they wouldn't fire him.

That's a shame. I would think that if the FIFA president can be gone, so can Goodell, or at least, anything is possible. :/

Disputes between labor and owners are typically settled in court rooms. Technically, this was a dispute between the Players Union, which represents Brady, and the league. The league was found that they did not righteously apply the agreement in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and players in this case.

The league was also found to have withheld witnesses and evidence from the Players' Association which would have helped the Players' Association's case.

The CBA is a contract. Contracts can be interpreted and ruled on by courts.

The more accurate answer is because the Federal Arbitration Act provides for judicial review of arbitration awards. Labor-management disputes are typically resolved in arbitration, not court.

Any smart dude could do what Goodell does.

NFL isn't the NFL because of Roger.

However, I've seen other executives be let go for much less. He has more money than he'll ever need so either way he is fine.

And in any case it's a significant stretch to go from the rules, which say it's a fine at maximum, to a four game suspension.

Weird views, guy. The only reason the judge didn't rule on whether Brady cheated or not was because he couldn't. It's pretty clear from the judge's questioning that he believes there is no evidence at all that implicates Brady.

Awesome, thanks for the explanation.

Goodell is the owners' lap boy. They don't really care what the public thinks of him as long as viewership and profits continue to rise, which they will... Until someone dies on the field.

Yep. And this is also why people saying he is guilty are looking at an edited report and defense that had to prove innocence rather than the other way around. They had nothing and they edited/with held information to try and force guilt.

Right. And whenever I bring up the fact that the ball PSI had little or no impact on the way the Pats' games played out, the response from people who want to believe the cheaters narrative is "Cheating is cheating!" OK, but this wasn't even the only example of ball doctoring that happened last season. The Vikings and Panthers were caught red-handed tampering with balls, technically "cheating". They both got off with the league standard fines as spelled out in the rules, but where's the public outcry over that? Cheating is cheating, after all!

Just to show how much bullshit this whole thing is. The ref was pretty sure he used the logo gauge (long needle) . Investigators dismissed that and said he used the non logo gauge. Readings by the logo gauge show no air was taken out. Look at the needles. They are pretty different. Why wouldn't the investigators believe the ref?
