Random theory of the day. MGSV is MGS Virtual. It's the Patriot AI trying to guess what past events were like based on the information it has, and presenting it as fact, even if much of it is probably wrong.

That's why we have the weird orange bars appearing sometimes (only when we see other machines, why? Is the AI getting aroused or something?), the burning tape video reel when BB is hurt or dying, the video glitches when Quiet, Paz, and Huey "suffer", etc.

When Huey is condemned by the mamal pod, we see the Hal-like eye flash red, hinting at how the AI is lying. Huey wonders how could the machine have recorded everything; it didn't, it's lying.

Everyone is hypnotised into thinking they are Big Boss. Even Kojima underwent hypnotherapy. This is why his relationship with Konami broke down. He was kidnapping developers and making them into his private army. "Security" they call it. Konami's office was the location of Kojima's Outer Heaven. No pachinko, no gameling machines, all for revenge.

V has come to.

I love MGS.

I think Quite may well be the worst character in the franchise. She comes across as someone Koj just has a crush on and tries his best to justify by making her this tragic character that just feels insincere. Her torture and "emotional" moments fell flat.

In a world where Rosemary and Paz exist, I disagree as her being the worst character.

I dig this theory, fun thing to think about.

Her ending was awful. I'm not understanding where all the praise is coming from. She leaves inexplicably after recording a bunch of nonsense on to a tape for Venom Snake to find because she read the script and knew he'd go for a stroll after a near-death experience.

Like you said - insincere.

I dont mean to be in denial but there is an achievement trophy within the game that states the following:

Deterrence

Develop a nuclear weapon.

So far no one has developed a nuclear weapon in the game nor does the game tell you how you can develop one.

Is there a catch? A 3rd ending kicks in after you develop this?

I think it's an FOB thing? I could be wrong. Heck, I don't even think we used our mid sized walker gear that Emmirch built, all I know it's for your soldiers to use when their out on their missions?

Edit: Who knows there may be an extra secret thing we're missing afterall PW had an entire chapter, however knowing a mission 51 was cut something tells me there's nothing unless THE REAL mission 51 is something else.

http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...ojima-interview-metal-gear-solid-phantom-pain

Both of these news items indicate that this is limited to the story and not FOB.

I have a feeling we are missing something here. Some review guy stated that there are 3 endings in the game and people are misjudging the Quiet ending as the 3rd or the 2nd one.

I think in a week we will have some resolution to this.

It makes sense in the way only an MGS. I maintain Quiet is the best character in the game and has the best story arc.

I agree. This sounds stupid but I stopped noticing the outfit and just saw her as an entire character eventually.

Even if it did, unless it rewrote the second ending, it wouldn't change what people are annoyed about.

There's a trophy for building a nuke and one for disposing of a nuke. I can't imagine there's anything story related tied to it simply because of how the two options aren't a one time thing.

I don't think a single reviewer who played the game in a bootcamp setting is likely to have seen more of the game than the millions of people collectively playing it since Sep 1.

I have played through almost 30 hrs of the games and at no point it's indicated that you can develop your own nuke. Of course you acquire your own Metal Gear and then dispose it. I am sure we are missing something here.

I dont think it will rewrite it. I think it will provide a proper resolution.

I got the option to develop one but couldnt be bothered at the time. Seems you have to be online to do it and its tied to the FOB thing.
You can also invade people with nuked from what I gathered from the cutscene. That way you steal their nukes and decide to keep it or dispose of it.

Seems it has no bearing on the story at all really. Its just a gameplay mechanic.

I assume it was an FOB thing too since its in the patch notes, but it could be another thing cut thats still talked about in game.

Not that I believe you but a screenshot will be deeply appreciated brother.

Yep, iDroid > Resources > Scroll to nuclear weapons.

Devlop Nuke is 75000 Fuel and 50000 Minor Metals, GMP is 750000.

You can own up to 4. You also have the ability to dispose of them, so maybe there's a way to capture them as well.

The resolution to P.T. was found by a single Youtuber before it became viral. Think that for a second :)

Exactly. You don't think the same would have happened yet in MGS5 with all the people actively searching for every secret they can?

The woman who played through P.T. wasn't doing it alone. There were plenty people chipping away at the game trying to reach the end of it and sharing information.

At work now. So cant.

But it happened during Chapter 2 and soon after Battle Gear was done aswell.

But I will see what I can do once I get home.

Its just a really short, tiny cutscene where Ocelot explains the mechanics to you.

So I think in the coming weeks we're going to get a lot of ranking lists that put the gameplay of V at the top, and the story at the bottom. But where does it rank overall in the series? As an overall package including both the story and the gameplay

I guess this is it then. Kojima made it sound like it was a story element. Anyways, I have accepted that this is the worst metal gear game story wise.

Eh, I enjoyed it in the end especially with it's message about BB being a part of us and us being a part of him. It sure is fuck tons better than PW's story however when you think about it in general, the game is a prequel. MGS ended with 4 and I was fine with that. I'm glad we got more of the insanity though, shame that we may not get something like it ever again.

It's tough ranking it overall because it's so different than the rest of the series. While the story is alright, the gameplay is sublime and miles above all the other MGS games so it's hard. In the end most people(me included) mostly are in it for the story and while I was engaged with this one it's still not as good as the first 4 for me. It's only better than PW.

Above MGS IV definitely.

.

*raises hand as one of Rosemary's few defenders*

She added to the plot and some of her save conversations were funny. It's the single best portrayal of a dysfunctional man-woman relationship in videogames.

Overall I think most people will still consider 1 or 3 the best. People who dislike traditional MGS will love V.

2 > 3 > 1 > V > 4 > PW is my overall ranking.

3>>1>>>>2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5>>4

4 not only has a dreadful story, it has about 2 hours of gameplay. 5's story is not good either but that's because it's boring and pointless, not completely batshit fanservice like 4. What makes it better is that you spend a much bigger portion of the game playing as opposed to watching, MGS5 is really fun to play.

I only liked her in 2 at some parts but overall she was annoying however the ending of MGS2 justifies everything that happens within that game, fucking crazy. Disliked her in 4 though as a whole.

Game is actually really short, lol.

If you rush objectives, you're looking at like 3 minutes per mission. Thats the avg time I took to complete Extreme 16 and blow up the 4 walkers. Plus, there is hardly cutscenes so it goes fast. I think I completed Mission 32-38 within 30 minutes.

Crawling will never get you spotted and the WU is enough to deal with most opposition.

There is just so much padding and meanlingless side objectives within each mission. But imo they fall flat if you realize doing them will only risk your rank to go down (since you take longer, can be spotted etc). In a lot of missions I ran the other way and the radio said 'there it is'. While I was supposed to go around first.

Design is pretty bad if you dig deeper, imho.

That, plus the story is all over the place. Quiet helps child soldier, but 2 moments later Quiet is tortured. Its disjointed. No build up so I didn't feel anything about it. Same with Skull Face, the guy was developed better in GZ. Here all he says is 'you will die hahaha'. And then right before his own demise he lays out his plans, and Snake obviously doesn't give a flying fuck about it. Then he loses because something falls on him, and then you get a pretty good and brutal execution gameplay scene. I'd rather had a jeep chase with him, with you having to CQC and pummel him before brutally executing him tbh. But I actually didn't hate SF at this point. Because I didn't know wtf he was about, you get the tapes AFTER his death. And because all he did was killing Paz and Chico to some extent which were good riddance.

It seems they made the cutscenes last and just chucked them somewhere between the byte sized missions. Starting to think this game might not be as good as I first thought.

I've not finished it completely, I've put in >25 hours and I haven't broke 30% completion yet.

That being said, it's my least favourite out of the lot. Before release I thought it looked a little "Ubisofty", and after playing it, I especially stand by it (particularly the side ops!).

It's an excellent game, don't get me wrong. But I just don't think the open world has been done very well at all, especially not in favour of a more "focused" environment, like we saw in Ground Zeroes and the other games.

MGS3 > MGS1 Twin Snakes > MGS2 > MGS4 > MGS5

I may change my mind later?

Hopefully you don't have to do the side objectives to reach 100%. All 50 S ranks and Side Ops is a sufficiently tall order already.

MGS3 > MGS1 > MGSV > MGS2 > MGS PW > MGS4

The odd numbered games are the best, IMO. I never really found MGS2 terribly fun to play.

What arc?

She's some assassin who gets fried, becomes a super assassin and decides to chill with Big Boss.

What was her arc?

She can't talk because the other English parasite was inside of her already, so she refuses to use English. The only person who understands her and shares another language with her is Codetalker.

She leaves, Big Boss recovers her, but they get lost in a sandstorm while be presued, Big Boss gets bitten by a snake and is near dead and Quiet has to speak to direct the helicopter to their location so she can save the Boss who she came to love.

She then disappears for good as a hummed version of her theme plays and you walk to recover a cassette recording she made explaining this.

When you've used the character are your buddy for a large part the game, this kind of thing has an impact.

What I find odd is, Quiet could still write? She could talk a different language with an interpreter if needed? She could explain wtf was going on.

It was very obvious she had the English strain. Skull Face even said its close to you. And then Ocelot is like 'could be anyone..? anyone who behaves odd or speaks different around you?'. And I was like 'come on, you're supposed to be smart... its clearly Quiet?'.

Did anyone else giggle out loud when Skullface's monologue is interrupted by a song that plays while he and Snake just stare one at another for a solid three minutes?

She talks, for quite a while, without consequence, negating the English parasite thing. Evidentially she never did learn how to write, either.

She's a character who comes out of nowhere to rub herself down with water. Any sense of poignancy is lost where she seems oblivious to the fact that she's designed for looking sexy and nothing else.

I don't know if anyone really had a character arc in this. Kaz comes the closest, but that's only if you consider his change from Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes. Probably Huey, actually. Everyone else leaves the game as they enter it, including Quiet.

Bad pacing. Its no patch on the songs used in past games at certain moments. Even the infamous ladder of death scene was actually pretty good. With you reaching the top and making the climb less boring.

Jeep scene was a very boring scene altogether. Also because of little character development on forehand.

I chuckled but then said this is the most dramatic, awesome car ride ever. Totally a thing only to be found in an MGS game, loved it.

Didn't giggle but thought it was pretty jarring. It wasn't Metal Gear goofy, it was just badly placed and sorta boring.

How do you extract the Skulls btw?

Way back I won the sniper battle with Tranq sniper but I couldn't do a thing with their bodies. Fulton is maxed out I think.

When do soldeirs start to get infected? Logically it's not Quiet's fault since she didn't speak until she called the helicopter, she might not even have had it at all since nothing happens as a result of her calling the chopper. On the other hand, if that had triggered the spread at MB, it would have been interesting; for Big Boss to live, his own soldeirs had to be sacrificed. BB is immune for whatever reason.

But in the game that scene happens after the infection has spread no?

Lol, has anyone taken a look at the mission objectives for the Finale Quiet Horde Battle? You need to extract essentially every vehicle in the mission, haha.
