People mercilessly shit on Destiny (ironically another mechanically excellent game with weak story) for having perceived "cut content," but when MGSV comes out with obvious cut content with some of ACTUALLY SHOWN ON AN INCLUDED DVD, people praise Kojima as having planned it all along, and that he cut it intentionally to mess with people's perceptions of games!

Phantom Content, just like a Phantom Pain! Kojima is a genius!

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I don't think anyones called the cut content genius. Like nobody at all. You definitely are taking crazy pills, lol

There are people praising the cut content? I didn't see any. Also the Destiny comparison is pretty meaningless as MGSV still has TONS of stuff.

Can someone spoil the best place to find fuel for me? The OT isn't helping at all, and I'm pretty desperate for it to build my last struts in MB.

The Phantom Limbs:

1- Big Boss missing.
2- Eli running away, depriving us of the game's "ending", like in MGS2.
3- Kojima being fired; so we literally miss Kojima. No "A Hideo Kojima" game, because he is a phantom limb.
4- Seeing Big Boss supposedly going evil, yet it's the opposite, even for his double, there is none of this at all.
5- Skull Face's ending, heck, his whole speech and how V doesn't even react to it.
6- Chico is just gone, and Paz is now an illusion? A phantom limb?

I could go on.

Hello? This is manipulation. It's Kojima making us explore a theme in a way ONLY VIDEO GAMES COULD.

You guys really think Kojima isn't doing something clever here? This is the same Kojima as MGS2'. :)

It's not over yet!

This is either amazing sarcasm or a ridiculously bad fan theory to justify the numerous short comings of the story and final game.

I actually got episode 46 before episode 45 even showed up. I think it's because I was using a Butterfly on my emblem.

Anyways, I wish I never completed episode 45......................

I already lost quiet because i unlocked mission 45... but i completed mission 46 and watched the deleted scene. I cannot believe kojima actually found a way to explain Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2's Big Boss appearances. Also it is absurd that mission 51 was cut... That is so crucial to finishing this game's story arcs!

I'm kind of annoyed by the lack of Mission 51. But we knew Liquid and Mantis were going to survive and I preferred watching it in a 20 minute YouTube video than having to fight Sahelanthropus again. It was a conclusion but one that could be pretty easily intuited.

Losing Quiet is bullshit for gameplay. What was Kojima thinking? Let us use her in a flashback context or whatever.

about the ending , i think Kojima-san was planing on remaking MG and MG2:SS , and retcon-ing it, to make the story of Big Boss more relevant.
but now with Kojima-san being fired i guess his plan failed.

I'll be sincere, i don't think we have lost a lot because of the cut content...
i mean the cutscene is detailed enough to perfectly understand everything and leaves almost nothing to the imagination, sure we didn't get the Sahelanthropus fight but whatever it would have been a copy paste of the one we had

I feel like more was cut than just that. Chapter 2 feels completely rushed in comparison to the first half of the game.

Well ive pretty much watched all i needed to with PP. I can say with full certainty that its the best playable metal gear. i loved the implementation of over the shoulder view and octocam in MGS4. Whereas i felt the story wasnt as good as past games it was enjoyable with the best gameplay in the series. PP takes the crown now with an even worse story and best gameplay, i wanna buy it for that alone. But as someone who is also in it for the story, PP is not the 5th entry, it most certainly feels like its own thing, koj clearly shows he was sick of sticking to the lore this time. Its for the best he left Konami because now he wont be shackled to Metal Gear.

Still unsure if the level design and encounters are better with the open world setting at all, gotta actually play to realise that.

Logically speaking she won't survive for more than a day even if the crash didn't happen and there was no 2nd bomb, because the first bomb inside her body meant vital organs (likely at least her stomach) were removed, and she was given nutrition and adrenaline injection to keep her standing. She was completely a disposable bait set up by Skullface.

Untrue. I showed the ending scene of GZ to mu dad & my uncle, both of which are doctors. They said it's entirely plausable that an object the size of that bomb could fit in her. Our organs are not tighly packed together with no room. What they did say, however, is that there is no way she'd have the strength to get up & move around like she did after that emergency procedure.

SmartWaffles is referring to a tape in GZ in which it's said that Paz had organs removed and was being kept alive artificially.

Oh. I haven't listened to those tapes in awhile.

I like how they made Huey seem like a complete goddamn monster by the end.

I'm still lost on this. So what was Huey's deal? Did he betray MSF? Was he telling the truth? Did he cause that shit on the quarantine platform? Seems odd that after all that, he goes back to the states, gets his son back, remarries, and then commits suicide after finding out Hal slept with his wife.

Yeah I'm still trying to piece together what he did. I mean he obviously had problems, as you can tell by the tapes and Strangelove, but I still don't think the question was answered as to whether he did know that the base was going to be blown up, and he had exchanged its location for his safety.

Anyone got tips for beating Quiet and Sahelanthropus on Extreme, other than just upgrading sniper and launcher to their maximum? I could do both eventually, but it's just so tiresome.

Honestly the whole Huey thing was a mess. The only reason nobody on Mother Base puts one between his eyes seems to solely revolve around the fact that we already know how he's supposed to die. Venom just looks like a supreme dumbass the entire time, first sitting behind the two way mirror staring blankly at Ocelot and Kaz interrogate him, and then putting him on a boat with food for... some reason.

For a bunch of dudes on a quest for revenge, the three stooges are really easily convinced not to actually kill anybody important.

Haven't done Sahelanthropus, but for Quiet, I took D-Dog and used a trick of slightly popping out of cover and back down so she'd fire, and then try and get a shot on her while she was reloading. If you can land a headshot, it'll take off a decent bit more of her health than usual too. Even at that, it's a difficult fight. I found it was easier in daytime too as she's much easier to spot.

I genuinely think the way Huey was dealt with in this game was inspired by Baltar in the BSG reboot. Just reminded me of him a few times. I really wish they recast his voice too though, his was one of the worst vocal performances in the game for me.

Drop something on her head. (Supply drops only work on normal though, bombs work on everything!)

Yeah, Quiet being unavailable has basically finished the game for me. I've put over 100 hours in according to the Record and I've seen the full ending, and I've had more than my fill of the gameplay itself which was excellent, so I'm done. Can't be bothered with completing the last of the redux missions, especially if there's nothing worthwhile to get out of it. I know that she's gone for a reason, but having an unavoidable point of no return for her sucks. I hope they patch her back in.

The worst thing is, her final mission was probably one of my favourites in the game and arguably the most MGS moment of the game for me. Such a good ending for her.

OK...That was fucked..just did the final Quiet mission..fight off a dozen tanks and a helicopter..and BB goes down to a fucking snake (So do Cobra teeth just sink straight through layers of leather?) resulting in Quiet disappearing and I guess dying, since she activated her parasites?

Even more confusing is that BB somehow didn't contract the parasite. She was standing right over him and talking for awhile. And since when do snakes survive a round of bullets?

don't remove it ever?

I would rather watch the mission on YouTube. I regret playing through it as I can't access her in the game any more now. I'll restart the game at some point, but I feel cheated as I've played it for three days straight. :<

Think I'm going to take a day or 2 off, that was just very deflating..20 hours in I think this overtook Witcher 3 as my GOTY, but there's just something very bland about pretty much every character except Huey..who's basically turned into a pile of shit, that's probably put W3 ahead again.

just realised i can't go back to the acc to change it. welp. i may do the same as you and restart at some point now.

I guess "the third child" could refer to Chico/Paz as being the first two. If the point is to try to fuel Big Boss' descent into madness, maybe that's how they were used.

There's twice as many side ops as there needs to be, isn't there? Seems excessive that there's ten different takes on the same mission goals. And you can't sweep them all in one go because they drip feed the unlocks. Seems kind of worse than Ubi design, at least they're not sending you to the damn chopper every time.
