I have to assume so, because Huey has to get remarried and Hal needs to smang Huey's wife.

how do you think Huey killed himself?

Yes. This was told in MGS2.

Yeah and then Hal banged Huey's new wife and so Huey drowned himself in their pool.

I don't feel so bad for Huey about that whole story after this game.

Sorry for asking, but to me it felt like this wasn't resolved. It could've been on a cassette tape or in the ending timeline. Did The Patriots take Hal?

I just have one question: How many of the open world maps are there? I'm around story mission 15 and I'm seen Afghanistan and now the African jungle. I remember hearing there were FIVE of these locations?

Big Boss, dying in the graveyard: Anyway, now that we've established that you didn't really fight me in Outer Heaven.

Old Snake: That's horseshit, but okay.

Big Boss: I'm surprised your friend Hal turned out okay. His dad was a real prick.

Old Snake: All I know is that he was born on the same day as Hiroshima and he possibly drowned himself in a pool because he found out that Otacon was sleeping with his new wife.

Big Boss: Oh. Well...

Old Snake: Otacon beats himself up over designing REX and causing all that and shaming his father into death.

Big Boss: Oh, well it's good I'm here then, you can tell him that neither of those are really his fault.

Old Snake: what the fuck now

Big Boss: His dad actually built the first Metal Gear that was basically just an anorexic REX, then he built another one that was REX but it could stand up like a person and had a sword and whip. Little Mantis controlled that one but it had a cockpit for little kids only.

Old Snake: what

Big Boss: Yeah, Hal probably stole all that shit. Didn't do a thing, really. Anyway, Huey - that's Hal's father, by the by - probably killed himself out of the shame of setting my mercenaries up to be slaughtered like twice, then helping a bad guy named Skull Face, then wanting to put Hal in the cockpit of a Metal Gear as a test subject, then killing Hal's mother for not wanting that last part.

Old Snake: Otacon has been tormented by the knowledge that he indirectly killed his father for decades. Which is kind of familiar, but I'm having second thoughts about the regrets part.

Big Boss: Nah, Huey was a huge asshole, it's fine.

Fucking hilarious. I could read parodies of that scene all day.

It is kind of weird that the jokes regarding Big Boss appearance in MGS4 have now shifted to making fun of the MGSV plot.

it was explained in tapes, Strangelove sent Hal to a safe location. It is implied later on that that Huey somewhat recovers him, remarries, and tries to live a normal life. Im guessing after all the buildup of being a super scumbag in MGSV he wanted to atone for his mistakes.

Please be the director / scenario writer for the next Metal Gear. That would be amazing.
I also imagined something like it. I mean, apart from not making us feel sorry for Huey about his doomed by canon death, I don't see the whole point of him being such an ass in MGSV

Also, I wanted to say to the person(s) who made the French translation : You have done a TERRIBLE job. I could've made a better one.

Sure it is difficult to translate all the difficult terms and techno-babble speak from some characters.

But all the typos, the grammatical errors, missing characters, plain translation errors and mistakes are unforgivable.

Example :
Big Boss in one of the tape in English said:
I'll think it over [he's talking about Quiet helping him as a buddy on the battlefield]
Big Boss in French for the same line said:
C'est terminé
...which means "it's over". It doesn't make sense in any language, it's stupid, it's like they did not read the whole script / re-read themselves / didn't give a fuck.
The whole game is riddled with this kind of typos.

Big Boss: Nah, Huey was a huge asshole, it's fine.

What you should take away from every MGS game post-MGS3 is that every person who has died in MGS has deserved it because they were huge assholes. And everyone who was a huge asshole was only pretending to be a huge asshole for the greater good. Olga Gurlukovich was actually a cruel and ruthless soldier who didn't really care about her child, in fact she hated Sunny. But she only helped the Patriots because the Patriots promised to kill Sunny if she succeeded. But the Patriots didn't kill Sunny because they weren't actually evil, but only pretending to be evil to expose the greater evil living in the shadows. Also Emma Emmerich killed her real father after trying to seduce him, causing her mother to marry Otacon's father and her sick incest obsession extended to her step brother.

When Kojima was explaining why X character was relevant and significant to X game, I was just like

Fixed that for you. It's embarrassing sometimes :lol

I wish there was a website to micromanage the Mother Base staff, or at least a way to have them all in the waiting room, then assign them one by one. I'm roughly 900 soldiers strong and I keep having to fire ten before I start a mission because I know I'll find a few S/A++ ranks in the field, but they will be assigned to the wrong facility because the one they're good at is full up.

I never bought Huey as the sociopathic Gendo Ikari wife killer that the game so wants you to think he is. If I hated anyone from those interrogations, it was Ocelot because he seemed to pull accusations and theories straight from his asshole and just kept pushing it as real without any hard or circumstantial evidence to back it up. The only hard evidence they have was the AI pod recording of Strangelove. And even then we don't know if Huey could actually open it from the outside or if Skull Face was forcing him to listen to his wife die because we all know how fucked up Skull Face is.

Then again I can't recall anything about Peace Walker's characters, so maybe he was a self serving asshole in that and I just forgot.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. My interpretation was that Huey was more or less innocent and it was Miller and Ocelot who were pushing accusation after accusation against him. The AI pod thing was so ambiguous and we don't even know if Huey was in the room when Strangelove fell in. The most screwed up thing he did that we know of for sure is try to get Hal to pilot Sahelanthropus. When Huey starts calling out Diamond Dogs for being warmongering psychopaths, I felt like his character arc was supposed to show us that Venom and his men were turning into extremists, not that Huey was a dirtbag. I was surprised to see the unanimous interpretation that Huey was a liar, a rat, and a sociopath once I came into spoiler threads on the internet.

He isn't trustworthy, so assuming he was bullshitting all along makes sense.

He has to be tortured before he is willing to tell Ocelot about OKB Zero. He isn't a team player, and the recording of Strangelove shows that his "It was suicide" excuse was bull; she's pleading for him to let her out, or let her die. He also causes the Mother Base outbreak with his actions but gives Snake shit for having to execute his soldiers.

Huey's a lying piece of shit.

Lmao :D

I felt a little bad for Huey after the first interrogations. After all, the stuff they had on him was really only circumstantial. But, between the Sahlanthrapus repairs, the leaking of radiation to staff, the radio calls to the CIA, and the death of Strangelove, I got enough to make me get on board with declaring him guilty. In MGS2 I always felt this haunting pity for Huey knowing that he killed himself after discovering his son to be having an affair with his step-mom, but knowing the monster he (probably) is, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

You think that before you listen to the tape and before Huey confesses. You think maybe everyone is just piling on him because they don't have any other scapegoat. They you find out he did lock Strangelove in the pod, he tried to use Hal to test Metal Gear, he actually liked building these weapons of mass destruction. His pointing out how Diamond Dogs are monsters and how DD is actually a wolf but no one cares and rationalises him as being an abandoned hound like them is then ignored by everyone because Huey is already the villain.

He celebrated when Sahelanthropus was brought back, he was more than eager to make D-Walker and the Battle Gear for more killing, he lied and lied and lied about everything he was questioned with until the truth actually got out, he was happy to use Hal as a test subject in Metal Gear when the AI stuff wouldn't work. He just tried to dodge every question or rationalise it by blaming others.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if there were more evidence behind the accusations. Everytime an accusation was lobbed at Huey I just thought "Where the fuck did that come from?" Everytime something bad happened, everyone just went "IT MUST BE HUEY!" to the point where it seemed like everyone was just clouded by vengeance and wanting to kill Huey at every oppurtunity.

:(

That sucks, so we don't know what happenend to Eli, the real Big Boss, Huey (Was he really lying about everything?). And who the hell was skull face? And what about Volgin and that Psycho Mantis kinda kid?
I'm so confused.

Don't worry, there are still answers to those. Side Ops 144 is entirely about Volgin.

As for Eli and Mantis, that was actually a cut mission slated to be Mission 51. It was quite far along, here are the cut scenes they had for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3e0LoFh8ew

Yeah but then we have the recording of Strangelove begging him to let her out and he imnediately goes back to the "but it was a suicide!" claim. Huey's just a huge piece of shit, bigger than Big Boss or Zero will ever be.

Huey was the prime suspect following Ground Zeroes, so that's why people are suspicious of him. They give him plenty of opportunities to prove his innocence and he just keeps tripping over his prior statements. The only decide to pass judgement on him when they get hard evidence.

The only thing they don't do is give him the benefit of the doubt. They were certainly biased but they ended up pointing the finger at the right guy, someone who deluded himself and couldn't be proven as a liar until the Strangelove recording.

All the Huey business just comes of as a really elaborate way to redeem Otacon's affair as something not that fucked up. Which is why I ignore everything that happens post-MGS3. Everything is connected. Characters who died deserved to die. Characters who are evil are not actually evil because Kojima realized they were cool characters and couldn't possibly have people liking evil villains. The mysteries surrounding MGS2's ending is so much more interesting without the whole Cipher/Big Boss conflict behind it. And Big Boss is so much more interesting as a tragic villain than some martyr. I like Ocelot more as an unrelenting backstabbing, double crossing, torture loving bad guy. Him in MGS1/2 is so different than him in MGSV. The tape of him going "Awww that whole torture business? It's just some persona I put on to scare people. Once people believe a lie, it becomes real" was some of the lamest stuff.

Still can't deal with it.There HAS to be something more.

It's not that Kojima can do no wrong but all the other games in the series felt complete no matter how crazy or bad the story was. This is... too half-assed and I'm not buying the Konami excuse.Even they were forced to meet a deadline it's unbelievable they wouldn't prioritize on finishing up the story first.

Damn, I almost wish Huey didn't have his lovable Christopher Randolf nerd voice now.

Also before this game I used to think he was a carbon copy of Otacon looks-wise, but they actually look different enough from each other.

It was probably unintentional, but Hal has some of the softer, rounder features of Strangelove.

I made a post earlier about this, but yeah, it's clear that the game is unfinished.

FUCK YOU Konami :( Urgh what the hell, there's hardly any real plot in this game. Damn that's really disappointing
The gameplay is solid, but apart from that the game is a giant pile of what-could-have-been. And even in the gameplay there were a few things that were underused or not there despite being build up, like cameras or Battle Gear. I am also fairly sure that we were supposed to have more buddies.

Was feeling a solid 8/10 until Burger Tape 3 & 4, which bumped it up a whole point. PAX HAMBURGANA

And then the true ending bumped it up another full point.

Not sure if it's a coincidence but MGS1-3 were co-written by Tomokazu Fukushima. He left afterwards, and I feel like the writing took a significant turn post 3.

Yeah, not sure if I should blame Kojima or Shuyo Murata. Maybe both. Honestly, I really like the body double twist and it explains how Solid Snake kills Big Boss twice. Skull Face's plan to sell shitty nukes that don't work is also a really cool evil villain plan that completely fits with evil villain plans of past MGS games. It's everything else I have an issue with. And all the stuff I take issue with, MGS4 is doubly guilty of. It's the character retcons, the character assassinations, how small they make their world by making everything connected to everyone, the "MANTIS WAS BEHIND EVERYTHING" bullshit, the nanomachines/parasites deus ex machina, the lack of villain development for Zero, the ENTIRE Cipher conflict that retcons all past games into being this struggle between Big Boss and Zero. I still hate MGS4 more because MGSV is only following the bullshit that 4 set up.

The body double twist explains nothing. Snake never really killed Big Boss in MG1. Big Boss says as much at the end of MG1.

MGSV gets just as stupid as MGS4, but it does so whilst explaining nothing in the series canon. It's dumb for the sake of being dumb. Most of it is 'bet you didn't see that coming' tripe for no other reason than being that.

I find it amazing (In a sad way) how the crap twist of this game has even ruined the trailers for me.

I went back and watched a bunch of trailers. I remember being so excited for the plot of this game. Jack, Naked Snake, finally descending to hell and becoming the hardcore, corrupted soldier who wanted to create wars and start their flames.

So many possibilities. Will Sniper Wolf be there? The setting and the time period match. I bet she will make an appearance! After all, Mantis and Liquid are there already!

A 'she defended herself from rape and stabbed a dude in the dick 12 times, then massacred all of the other soldiers involved' story, rather.

It's ... weird.

This.
She basically prevented her own rape.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEGgI33SZ6s&feature=youtu.be&a

guy was about to do the deed, or at least sounds like it. She literally woke up and massacred EVERYONE before anything occurred besides pulling down her pants.

She wasn't raped, she prevented it.

Inb4 this post goes unnoticed and people still think actual rape occurred.

Big Boss was lying to perpetuate the legend you see? Because everything that happened in MG1,2,MGS1,2,4 was one big hoax set up by Big Boss and Ocelot to combat CIpher/Patriots!

MGSV couldn't explain anything because MGS4 already established that Big Boss wasn't truly evil. He was just trying to combat Cipher/Zero. It's hard to establish a downward spiraling character arc when the end of the timeline and the Big Boss man himself pretty much go "lol I wasn't evil at all anyways!"

The marketing stunts and trailers are the best thing about MGSV.
