Has anyone completed all side ops or built their units to high levels? I'm having a tough time finding skilled soldiers and I have 24 side ops left.

Before the game came out, I thought all the enemy bosses in the game were going to be possible illusions, causing us to never quite know what was real or not, and allowing Kojima to make the fights as fun as desired without having them to be realistic. In fact I thought the whole game would play on this theme, where even some enemies would be possible illusions. For some reason the hospital scene looked like a dream, and I thought the whole game would feel like that.

Volgin on the unicorn, the giant whale, on fire, the lightning bolt, Mantis, I thought it was a hint of it. I even thought Big Boss and SF might be the same person, some sort of Tyler Durden thing, due to the XOF unit, SF having a scar where V had a horn, etc. I thought SF might be the demon inside BB himself, trying to take over BB's own mind by fighting against his own soldeirs using his own "mirrored" PMC.

I knew it couldn't be the case, but even in TPP I thought it could still be true until the Metal Gear part where obviously he's really there. Even the car ride made sense: BB says nothing cause he's talking to himself! His soldeirs just don't dare say hey who are you talking to :p

I kind of wish that's what it would have been. A literal demon inside BB, a split personality taking over, never quite entirely, but enough so to remain there until SS kills BB. It would explain why BB can be such a hero one moment, and then say stuff like sending kids back on the battlefield is fine.

:(

Where is the option to do that in? Combat Deployment?

I think its on S Rank Combat Deployment missions or something, never got past B rank.

Hey.

Remember that time when Volgin made that fire whale?

How come he never did anything like that again?

That was Big Boss hijacking Mantis for a bit.

That's just the ol' switcheroo.

Indeed. Watching that scene where The Third Boy copies Eli's appearance before the Sahelanthropus battle, and thinking back to that E3 trailer with the "Les Enfants Terribles, Zero called it" line...that was just cruel. Kojima is capable of such cruelty.

GMP is like water, who cares about how money you spent on Quiet. Game gave me like 100k in Precious Metal and you sure don't need that much.

Also looks like somebody finally got the Platinum!

Have mercy on his soul for doing 29 Extreme and 45 perfectly

Have mercy on his soul for doing 29 Extreme and 45 perfectly

29 Extreme (aka 42) is not actually that hard. The mission tasks come without trying. 45 on the other hand, the four missile weapon makes it a lot easier but extracting all the vehicles seems incredibly hard.

Looks like complete all tasks is the hardest to do. Or at least most time consuming. I think MGS2 and 4 are harder overall, although you could probably do them faster.

Trying SO hard to not read the page while asking this:

How many story missions are there? Can you keep doing side-ops after you beat the game?

I'm getting conflicting reports on the main-game. Some sites say 31 and the Sahelanthropus is the last mission and others say there are 47 or 50 main missions?

Halp pls

The Zero conversation tapes were a great way to end the game imo.

I agree. And the actor voicing Zero absolutely nailed it, too. I listened to them all together and I was spellbound the entire time. Compared to trying to pay attention to some of those ten-minute Code Talker biology lessons, anyway.

So this just came in. Kojima was kind enough to give me a retweet (for the 1000th time I think).

This is the weird part. Batzi wants to buy the arm off of me, but is not willing to make a video of something I already know he's going to do with the half-scale arm anyway. What a tease.

True, but I can't think of another explanation. The chances of a lightning bolt striking are unlikely.

There are two cutscenes seen in trailers that I can't place in the actual game. The primary one is the destroyed African village at the beginning of the Nuclear trailer, where Snake falls on his knees and screams. Don't recall seeing that. Did anyone else? The second is at the end of the Not Your Kind of People trailer, where Phantom Boss is getting on a Triumph motorcycle, which obviously never happened, so I guess that's a bit of deception on Kojima's part.

The part where he is on his knees screaming at the clouds is from the cut episode 51.

The part where he is walking through all the dead bodies in the beginning of the Nuclear trailer is not in the game however. At least I don't remember seeing it.

There are 38 story missions, and an extra 12 main missions that are extreme repeats of past missions. Sahelantrohpus Extreme is the 50th mission. The 12 extra missions are optional.

I don't understand why he wouldn't agree to those terms.

Haha. "From one fan (phantom) to another (true)". I don't think that's flattery, Medic Boss.

So these "extreme" missions are just harder versions of past missions? Or are they different and add more to the story?

Also, thanks for the reply.

Wow that hand is way bigger than I imagined. Would be a pretty sweet controller holder if it had some grip

They're all just different restrictions, the missions play out identically.

Extreme is general difficulty, one is for not being able to bring any equipment/buddy/support in, one is being detected = game over.

I feel so silly writing this, much less thinking it, but reading the spoiler stopped my progress dead in its tracks. I had an inkling that you might be a body double during the hospital scene, but reading it being confirmed and all the nonsense that comes with it killed my buzz for this game. Now I know MGS4 went off the rails constantly, had nanomachines as the answer to everything, and ended with the wedding of two garbage characters and Big Boss's double fakeout, but I just cant. I cant even think of a reason why I cant, I just went full on basic bitch and cant even describe a reason why I cant describe a reason. I've become the Exo Stranger. Fun game though.

Get to mission 43 at least. It's one of the best narrative-driven gameplay sequences in any game regardless how you see the very ending.

Seriously, such easy terms.

Wait, so he was referring to himself at the 'true' fan? That mother f....

It does have grip. I put my PS4 controller in the hand when I'm not using it.

This here. Even the cutscenes remain the same.

The Zero tapes are pretty great. Fantastically voice acted. But they're also weird because whoops it turns out the whole time that BB getting shat on by Cipher was a weird rogue element and not actually a fight between Zero and BB at all except it still kind of was but wasn't? Anyway everything returns to Zero and I'm gonna rip out your breathing tube for some reason. Anyway I'm the head of the illuminati somehow even though I was just a major who was basically forced into Snake Eater by the CIA and they still really never explained how Zero and Sigint and Paramedic basically became the secret gods of the USA except that 'they were really good'.

Also all the Paz stuff makes almost no sense post-reveal, because what the fuck does V know about all this Paz stuff except that he didn't save her?

The reveal cutscene is sick tho. Amazingly shot.

Oh man, 43 was just brutal. The saluting and the PW theme playing did not help.

Hell, imagine if the early rumors were true in that you had to purge ALL of Mother Base.

I look forward to that mission. Thank you. I still very much enjoyed the gameplay. Scouting a town out from afar, making my way in and around the buildings and systematically taking out and fultoning guards was so much fun. I've just put the game on the backburner for now, but I wi'll finish it up since MGS is one of my favorite series of all time.

The chapter division is weird...

It should be...

Chapter 1 - Ground Zeroes
Chapter 2 - Afghanistan
Chapter 3 - Angola-Zaire
Chapter 4 - Skull Face Confrontation (should lead into...)
Chapter 5 - The Truth
Epilogue - Eli/Quiet/Miller fates

Yeah but still, it's baffling why important things like this are left in the game files.

as a programmer myself, I can't begin think about the inner chaos games can look like when things are all said and done.

I've written programs that have had seemingly unconnected sections cause the entire project to stop working because of some type of six degrees of connection.

it's more safe (or rather easy) to just leave things in the data and not have an access point within the normal operating of the game instead of digging and removing shit.

So...

uhh

why the fuck did Chico have a headphone jack in his chest?

Also where is my return to Camp Omega?

Kojima is the real villain

By This structure it should go
Prologue = ground zeroes
Chapter 1 = Awakening
Chapter 2 = Afghanistan
Chapter 3 = Africa
Chapter 4 = Skull face
Chapter 5 = Eli/Quiet conclusions (fate)
Chapter 6 = The Truth
Epilogue = Ocelot/Miller/ Venom conclusions (Fate)

I see it working better this way.

Supposibly in the japanese version datamine, the game was suppose to be 5 chapters. Ca anyone confirm?

After 200k heroism you'll start finding S rank soldiers in the wild. The higher your heroism the better.

Usually found at least one S rank soldier with 130k-ish heroism. However, I just passed 180k (got 30k heroism, don't know why though) and now I'm getting volunteers with S rank.
