There's a cut-scene in the trailers were some MB soldiers fight in the rain and Snake makes one of them stab him with a knife. Where does this happen in the game?

Ocelot hypno'd himself to believing he could hypno other people and everyone else just went along with it. Venom is actually Big Boss, but he pretends to be Venom. The entire series is just a ruse to keep Ocelot believing that he can hypno people.

Big Bawse actually died back in Ground Zereos. All of TPP takes place inside Ocelot's head.

The atmosphere during the Metal Gear S fight was ridiculously good, especially when it shot the red smoke flares.

This happened randomly for me when I went back to mother base...it was just another scene that seemed to not really have a point, like so many others in this game =/

Happens when you have negative GMP which is stupid considering it's one of the better Big Boss moments in the game next to schooling Eli

Thats the one you need your money in the red and then visit motherbase? I had it randomly near the endgame.

MGS1 ended with what was, back then, a legendary boss fight never before seen in a videogame with a comfortable ending.

MGS2 ended with the story completely breaking away from videogame stereotype and in turn making a statement about the manipulation of information. The boss fight was pretty cool too.

MGS3 ended with probably the most iconic end boss fight in videogame history, and a conclusion that still is held to a high regard by many.

MGS4 ended with a boss fight that paid tribute to the series' history. Story concludes attempting to wrap everything up and put the final nail in the story.

Peace Walker ended with a Metal Gear boss fight as the last piece of the story was revealed.

MGSV ended with you replaying the tutorial again, with a needless retcon thrown in because you get to be Big Boss or something even though everyone already connected to the original BB.

How is this not sad? They should've ended the game with "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea" with a boss thrown in and just ended the series with some dignity.

shit

when they called him master miller, they were talking about his status as the legendary hamburger patron, "Master Miller"
He was probably killed by Ocelot or Liquid using one of his retiree art projects too.

Making it a Knick Knack Patty Whack

So where was he this whole time

Was he in peacewalker
No he's just a random MSF soldier who appears as a red shirt with 2 lines in GZ and then is suddenly so good he's literally Big Boss. Unlike Grey Fox who's introduced in 1, then gets an actual character and story in 2, and finally gets a satisfying conclusion in MGS, while also acknowledging that Snake is the better warrior.

urgh lets just ignore this game, a fucking Medic having the same skills as Big Boss is so stupid i can't even

I personally can't.
If the story/plot makes up majority of a game for you, then I understand.
But for me, this game has seriously good game play. Probably one of the best.
Thats why I can't simply ignore it. Its a game, its not a movie.
If the game play was shit too, then yeah, I would ignore it too.

But at the same time, because the game play is so good,
I'm depressed at how unfinished the story is.

it doesn't matter, maybe he was some random dude you fulton'd in PW. the point is he wasn't some random medic they picked off the streets to become BB, they tell you he was the best man BB had.

One thing that has to be said is with Venom being a player avatar the person they're talking about is you, YOU are BB's best and most loyal man, the one who's always been by his side. Who he was in universe isn't supposed to matter, he's you.

I don''t think Kojima did a very good job however of making Venom a true avatar, he's in some weird in between place.

Pax Hamburgana was the best thing to come out of this game.

Damn you Liquid. Now the dream of the ultimate burger utopia will never come true!

I just feel the player character being an avatar was done better with Raiden in MGS2 -- Raiden still had a character, it still worked on a surface level, and the subtext worked just as well, too. The mirror scene at the end of MGSV and the narration accompanying it is a bit on the nose.

Is it worthwhile to even finish the Paz side story? I wasn't against seeing her again, because I liked Paz, but give me a fucking break, they already retconed Ground Zeroes by making it seem like they actually found the second bomb, lol. like...what?

It should have been Grey Fox. It would have made so much more sense and we all know that fox was boss's best soldier. I would have bought it.

But then he'd have to go back to being Fox somehow.

Was anyone else disappointed with the OST? I don't recall a single song in the whole game that I liked.

MGSIV has one of my favorite scores in any game and I listen to it a lot while I'm reading comics.

I'm watching

http://www.twitch.tv/uknighted

right now and one of my favorite tracks just came on.

Also, holy shit, there's cutscenes and boss battles in MGSIV!

Yeah, the soundtrack feels like Kojima just said "dark knight please"

I personally loved the soundtrack. It punctuated tense moments perfectly.

So... are we to assume the reason why Solid Snake fights Big Boss twice in Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2...is because the first one Venom Snake, and Zanzibar Land was the real Big Boss?

Because I noticed on the cassette tape, on the opposite side of "From the man who sold the world" it said "operation intrude n3..." which was the mission from Metal Gear 1.

he's the best man they had they didn't mention until it because necessary to shock the player with it *shrug*

yeah i agree with you tho, i get the metaintent but it's just not executed well at all

That's true, but I mean they changed his face once they could do it again. They'd have to drop the whole "Venom being the one you killed in MG1" which is one of the good things to come out of this twist. But at least if it was Fox, the twist would have had a little more weight, like Fox was willing to give up his life just to protect the man he looks up to most. Instead of it being me, and I'll be honest I'm a pretty boring character in the Metal Gear universe lol

Spoiler impressions from the main thread, crossposted:

I'm not really spoiling anything in detail, but I beat the game and thought I'd put most of my thoughts in spoiler just incase since people are super sensitive:
Well, I finished the game at mission
46
and I am disappointed. i can write more, about the voice acting (and why a certain character does a good job at one point in the game but then basically disappears and does mediocre job the entire rest of the game), or how it does't make sense cannon-wise, or whatever.

This was, without a doubt, the best Metal Gear game to play, but the story, voice acting, writing, and whatever narrative things you wish to add, are worse than any other Metal Gear Solid game, bar none. I loved sneaking into bases, adapting my play, calling in support helicopters, relying on my buddy, which was always...
Quiet
and having fun. Rarely did the game break its mechanics and ruin the experience. Sure, there are some absolutely terrible and unforgiving missions, especially those that result in the game preventing a certain play-style, but for the most part, things hold up remarkably well mechanically.
It's such a shame the narrative is such garbage, disjointed, and arbitrary. I got cutscenes out of order for some reason, and without any guidance. Something major happens to a character, and it isn't telegraphed, and it is irreversible. It's a goddamn mess narratively, and anyone who justifies or excuses is pandering, like Kojima and the character...
Quiet
.

I loved plaything this game, with its elasticity to game mechanics, but I'll never play it again like other Metal Gear games because of its garbage characters, bad and inconsistent voice acting, stupid story, and whatnot. And, it's a shame. I've played MGS2 the most, followed by MGS3 and MGS1, and I've gone through MGS4 a couple of times and admiring moments in it... but this game? As an MGS fan? It's bad... It's something else. It's...

I don't know. It's a fucking mess. There's no way any sane person can excuse the story progression, the cutscene unlocking, or anything relating to the story. This is the best playing game I've played this year with the worst narrative and all the trappings.

Questions I have after finishing the game which may contain MAJOR SPOILERS:
So, Quiet left the base with ZERO fanfare, got captured by Soviets, and... for what? Was that her plan? And, really, did she almost need to be raped. What garbage for her character at the end. Not that she had a character at all... I'm of the opinion that anyone who liked her just liked her for her looks; she has no character and is dull and lifeless.

Big Boss leaves... because... what? Why? The end makes no sense. ZERO.

Eli, or Liquid as listed in the credits, is gone, with a Metal Gear prototype, but why, and why did the DNA tests come back negative? Why was he in this game? Where was Jack? He's listed in this game as well. Did I miss him because of the fucking stupid story progression cutscenes?

Why was Skull Face's plan so stupid? What's up with PAZ? Is she dead? Did I miss when Chico died?

Is there a reason why Big Boss became the enemy of MGS more than the end of MGS3? Did we get any character progression from him in this game? If not, what was the fucking point?

Why is Miller so bipolar in his voice acting and character? NANO MACHINES/PARASITES?!?!?!?!?!?

Why does Ocelot sound like garbage? Why did Troy Baker give such a bad performance?

Will people ever get over Keifer Sutherland being a star in a bad drama and realize he isn't a good actor?!??!

Anyway, I'm done. Best playing Metal Gear Solid game, but at the same time it is the worst "Metal Gear Solid" game.

I hope Kojima does something outside of this universe instead of running it into the ground.

TRULY MAJOR SPOILERS:

Why is Psycho Mantis in this game? Why is he mad, or in the state of "revenge" or "phantom pain" against Big Boss? Why
.

Why?

WHY?

.....

Whatever. Best/Worst Metal Gear Solid game.

Finished the game. That was a whole bundle of disappointing story-wise. Despite having a lot of ideas and elements that could make for an amazing game, it never really congealed into a coherent product though. As strange as it sounds, I think this game really needed more interaction with the cast and the villains to make it work at even a basic level, i.e. cutscenes.

Other things:

While I can see how this can cause the rift between Miller and Big Boss for Metal Gear and MG2: Solid Snake, I think it makes a weak case for it when especially considering how close they had been through the tribulations of Peace Walker. It's a good start but it needed more oomph.

Ocelot being so chummy in this seems bizarre as hell but I guess it leads to how Ocelot ends up working for Big Boss' dream throughout the series after the first Metal Gear. It just feels off without some of the Bravado that Ocelot has had in every incarnation of the character. I see why they had him be the calm guy because Miller is the angry bad cop but It's hard to see Ocelot as a good cop at all, lol.

Huey is a fucking asshole in this game. He was kind of whatever in Peace Walker but holy shit in this. If there's anything TPP does well, it's make me hate Huey. That Strangelove tape too. ;_;

Skull Face could have been a cool villain but he didn't interact with the cast much at all. They freaking info-dumped him right at the end of the Ch 1 too which was lol. His interactions in the tapes were a little better but it wasn't enough.

On the twist, I pretty much saw this at the start when they were showing all of the images facts from later in the series. I like the idea of this twist and it could fit within the canon of MG but considering how stupid MGS4 was written, it kind of rules out any cool things that could have been done using the developments from this game. My headcanon probably works better than the actual MGS canon, lol. Edit: My headcanon was partially correct but I would have done that Venom part a little different.

The MGS2 parallel was interesting after the reveal but it didn't have the exposition to really drive it home. The MGS1 stuff good as it didn't need the exposition

Quiet was a cool character but not enough development or interaction with her in the game. I'm OK with her reasoning and all that but she really needed more interaction time and all that. I can kind of see what Kojima meant to do with her in regards to Venom Snake but it doesn't work without more screen time.

Eh, there's more stuff to say but it's hard to organize without a bit more thought.

Quiet was just there for the boobs because Kojima is a pervert.

Big Boss left to set up Zanzibar Land in MG2.

The DNA tests came back negative because they tested it against Venom's DNA rather than Naked Snake. Watch the cut episode 51 if you haven't already to get some closure on the Eli stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B4JIHh5Jqk

Yes Paz is dead. Skull Face's plan was stupid because he had permanent brain damage after accidentally falling out of a helicopter.

No there was not much Big Boss character progression other than finding out he's already a huge jerk by manipulating his poor loyal man and stealing his identity.

Miller has always been a huge asshole.

Ocelot was fine to me.

Keifer Sutherland actually did a good job, much better than the Hayter garbage in the last couple of games. Too bad he didn't get much to work with.

So I just beat Metal Gear S an watching credits...I'm confused on what happens with the parasite that Eli has. I'm also confused about two things: where do we get that Eli is Liquid? And what is all this talk about Venom Snake not being Big Boss?

I'll let the credits finish and see if there is anything else then watch the video of that cut mission. Otherwise I'll have to check back here or Google for some answers.

Seriously? I know people think kojima is amazing but do you really expect him to put hints about a character for the sequel that he doesn't even know he is making. The medic is supposed to be a brand new character, one that is created by the player.

Just rewatched the final battle in MG1. Venom is just there, waiting for Snake, and then he says "I won't die for nothing" before fighting him... and dying.

I like to think the mirror punching scene happened directly before that. Dude knows he is gonna die at that point, whether he wins or not.

Was that mission 31? That's not the end at all lol

Stealth camo takes up a whole lot of Common Metal to use. I was wondering why it was taking so long for me to get any, then I noticed I was using 650 per loadout. Whoops!
