That's only really true for 3, every other game in the series tends to devolve into action/shooting towards the ending, which the engines weren't really prepared to handle. MGS4 is especially notorious for this, starting from the crappy escort mission in act 3 all the way to the five-minute-corridor plus lame boss fight that is act 5. How are those better at gameplay escalation than the reactive enemy behaviour, the increasingly densely populated bases or your own expanding toolset?

Neither helmets nor density have much to do with what I said. Never said MGS V doesn't have a difficulty curve.

I think you're arguing out of a misplaced sense of defensiveness. I'm saying MGS V lacks mission variety - that's plainly true. I'm saying previous MGS games - 1, 2, and 4 included - varied the task more, which is also true. You can argue the particulars and the degree, or even if mission variety is something you want, but I'm not going to entertain any notions about V being just as varied as past games.

It's the best I could do with everything I have so far. That sheep is more menacing than all Metal Gears combined.

Nice job. This one's mine:

To be fair there are 11 tracks on that album

so that's a 1/11 chance.

or something.

no way this is real, but I do have to question how a fake troll site set up their site two days before the official listing of the internal shift of Kojima Productions...

It's also one of exactly two songs on that 11-track record that has a title that can be related back to MGS5-- the other being the title track, 'Diamond Dogs.'

So if he was, say, listening to the entirety of the album, 'Diamond Dogs' in his spare time, and thought it would be cute to tweet a picture of him listening to that album, and decided to use one of those two particular tracks to really hit home the connection between the record and his recently-release video game, he has a 50% chance of tweeting the 9th out of 11 tracks.

And if we were to go even further, maybe he wants to inform his twitter audience specifically that the reason the game is set in 1984 is because Diamond Dogs has a track called 1984, and that record is "set" in 1984 as well-- the album title takes care of informing people that "Diamond Dogs" came from the record, and the track "1984" informs people that the year came from the record as well.

Something something farewell sausage.

You know i've kinda come around to some story elements in this game. As much as I find the twist dumb in regards to the canon. I feel that it works more when I look at it in purely meta terms.

Also there are some really strong scenes in the game that I really liked. For instance wiping out DD soldiers and the end of the Paz storyline.

As much as they didn't develop the plot all that much they were still really well done scenes in terms of cinematography and music.

Which brings me to my second point. I've been listening to the OST a lot and it's grown on me exponentially. In particular, the Paz scene, metallic archaea and return.

Although, as much as I love sins of the father it was horribly utilized in game. I mean seriously, what the hell was Kojima thinking? I kept expecting something to happen at the drops but nothing ever came of it. Also, it wouldn't have been so bad if Skullface and Snake had a really intense stare off but Snake does keep looking away as if he's really uninterested. It was pretty disappointing but maybe it'll grow on me when I go through it again.

My god that Quiet puddle dancing is the worst.

Anyhoo can anyone tell me how to trigger the stuff with Paz? Like I see youtube thumbnails and saw her in trailers but she never showed up for me.

The DD scene was great. I really like the scene where you kill Skullface. I thought it was really well done and the only time it shows Big Boss kind of being "evil"

There's a couple good scenes buried in the package but it amounts to very little. Compare it with Ground Zeroes; there we have three tightly choreographed well done scenes. Each one has a purpose, and you can tell there's a lot of great visual artistry at play (shot composition and camera movement).

The Phantom Pain lacks a lot of that. Most scenes are mainly shoulder height shots that track from one character to the next in accordance with their lines. Simple, unimaginative, and ultimately boring; if it wasn't in one shot it'd be no different than a basic soap opera back and forth.

All of Kojima's previous work demonstrated a great eye for choreography and a willingness to try inventive shot and scene composition. Its largely lacking here.

That was the one truly goosebump inducing awful scene in the game for me. It would be one thing if it was like the haunting version of Snake Eater while climbing the ladder, but the bravado of this song was just incredibly incongruous to the quiet drive to where Skullface's evil plans are going to come to fruition.

It was bad enough where I don't think it's possible it could have been a decision of pure artistic intent - it HAS to be a slapdash compromise late in development.

Blowing Skull Face's limbs off was like a taste of what everyone was expecting from the story and BB's character arc.

The Paz scene music is one of the few tracks on the OST that strike me as genius. It sounds like something out of 'A Beautiful Mind', it's a really good piece of music.

But so much of the music is forgettable. I can't remember what played when I fought Sahelanthropus. I can't remember what played when I was infiltrating OKB Zero. Or fighting the Man on Fire.

The Paz music, the Skulls theme (Parasites), the main theme (or at least the core melody) and the last half of the music that plays when you escape with Huey.

And the twist, yeah, when I first saw it I saw it purely in meta terms and it wasn't that bad. I saw Big Boss, the MSX and thought "I see what Kojima's doing". Then I realized that the twist explained actual story events, like Eli's blood test, and I hated the twist for intruding on the canon.

I wonder how many people are gonna get fucked over when they can't get 100% because they didn't develop everything for Quiet.

Assuming that prevents 100%.

It feels like they wanted to do so much more with this game but stuff got cut last minute it seems.

For example the Battle Gear, shit gets built but never used.

It's used in deployment.

After piloting Rex in MGS4, and developing and fighting Zeke in Peace Walker, I don't feel like Battle Gear was meant to just become an icon on the screen in one of the more obscure elements of the game.
It was removed during focus testing for being unbalanced.

Well obviously. I'm just saying it does get used. Didn't say it's used well.

So I think I just finished the game and oh boy... my head is going to explode.

I have a few questions and I'm sure they have been answered but this thread is over 300 pages and I'm dead tired. Also I haven't listened to the tapes you get after beating the game yet.
- Is there a second ending? The story with Eli and Mantis wasn't really finished.
- Where's the scene with Paz they showed in trailers and even during the "coming up next" thing after first chapter?
- We do not see Zero in this game? :(

Battle Gear looked like it was meant to be playable. Its size, quad legs for terrain navigation, hover capability. I thought for sure I would use it against Sahelanthropus.

Nope.

At least have the decency to cut the dramatic build up, Kojima.

-Somewhat. It was cut. Episode 51 is only viewable on the extra Blu Ray for the SE or something like that. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3e0LoFh8ew

-You need to go to the medical bay of Mother Base. Go to the top floor and look for a door with a blue light above it.

-We never see Zero. We only hear his voice in tapes.
