So I think I just finished the game and oh boy... my head is going to explode.
I have a few questions and I'm sure they have been answered but this thread is over 300 pages and I'm dead tired. Also I haven't listened to the tapes you get after beating the game yet.
- Is there a second ending? The story with Eli and Mantis wasn't really finished.
- Where's the scene with Paz they showed in trailers and even during the "coming up next" thing after first chapter?
- We do not see Zero in this game?

-The scene with Paz is in the medical bay on the third floor of the medical platform.
-Zero isn't in the game but his voice is in the Truth Record tapes.
At least you have control over Task Completion. Animal capture shit is worse.
And arguably key dispatch missions since those get dice roll-y too.
The first platinum trophy (which requires task completion) was only achieved yesterday. The tasks and animal hunting appear to be the toughest things to do.
You need to get near endgame, storywise to get the rest i think.

I agree with a lot of this. I haven't listened to all the OST fully but some songs i've had on repeat as a result of liking them so much. The OST is a lot more "subtle" maybe? I don't know. I feel like it's more typical hollywood in a lot of regards but it's also a lot more subdued compared to previous MGS soundtracks.
It works for me on a certain level given the tone of the plot itself. MGS1, 2, 3, 4 and even Peace Walker had OST's that matched their tones perfectly. I'm still trying to figure out if 5 fits the tone it has set well or not.
Also, a side note in regards to the Paz scene. As much as I didn't care for Kiefer's performance (didn't think it was bad, just an unnecessary change) I really liked his single "NO" in the final Paz scene. That accompanied with the music and framing of the scene really hit me in a way that I didn't expect. Especially as I didn't care for Paz as a character. It also worked for me on a meta level as I feel like we were supposed to be invested in Paz emotionally and hence that's our grief as opposed to BB who was up for taking her out in GZ....
And from the Peace Walker tapes and what not I got the impression most of the men got along with Paz. Hence why the Medic might have had that reaction.
Sorry, i'm waffling on a bit. It's just nice to discuss the game with people who have finished it haha.

All joking aside it seriously sucks that this happened because of development issues at some point. Mainly because the gameplay is really fun. That Diamond Dogs vs Metal Gear fight would've been a really good full circle method to tie into MGS1 boss fight, even has the same reference. Both VS and Eli say "it's not over yet."
You know, I love Peace Walker, but I've always disliked the whole "The Boss AI" thing.
But this game has renovated my love for the previous ones, including the silly AI thing. Compared to the twist in this game, Robotic The Boss is pure genius.
That first part - for quantity? Yeah. Quality? Very debatable.

Sound about right. Its more fun to try different tactics than in PW though. It seems like Kojima wanted to make a console version of PW and came up with some bullshit story to fit the mold and sprinkled in whatever themes he thought were compelling on top. Even the cut ending was exactly like PW with a child on the base taking control of the metal gear.

I'm gonna bank on the fact that this is just crazy MGS conspiracy theorist fans being crazy MGS conspiracy theorist fans. Though the bit about the fanbase feeling a Phantom Pain over the cut content that was supposed to be there, if not intentional on Kojima's part (and I don't think it was, because intentionally crippling your product just to be meta is way out there even for him), is a pretty funny coincidence.
There's only one cool story easter egg we know so far, I think only MGS fans would realize it's an easter egg otherwise it seems like randomness.

Well I unlocked mission 46 finally. Didn't have to beat all the missions, nor did I have to beat all the side ops, nor did I have to listen to all the yellow tapes. It just randomly unlocked after a side op.
I'd already watched the end, so no big surprise, but I can say I'm done with the game now. Will probably play it a little bit more, but after 86 hours, I'm burned out for now.

On a related note: Does anyone think the PC version was originally delayed (past 9/11) because of all this craziness? I know there was an article saying KojiPro LA worked hard to get it ready, but could this be why?

Yeah they do. In the Airport mission where you have to assassinate some guy there were 2 in the back. There is also an extreme version of that mission.

The "Ground Zeroes" connection is easier to make with the episode 51 NYC shot and ingsoc on 9/11. No need for whacky Z stuff.
I spotted some at the airport. Not sure if it was part of a mission or side op though.
