Gameplay is 95% the same anyway. It just needs an update considering it came out over a year before TPP.
even if we're only talking about infiltration gameplay, it's not. they did a lot of tweaking between gz and tpp and the differences are sometimes pretty pronounced. even then, tpp has the upper hand massively in terms of what you can use and the strategies you can employ.

Not a huge diss, just stats barely matter in FF7 so who cares about Aeris/th

I like DDog but in the latter side ops I found him to be useless. Particularly all of the eliminate the tank unit ones with snipers.

I like DDog for those snipers... I can just go up behind them and take them out..

Is there a reason to use D-Walker?

Not like I can use Quiet anymore

I beat Chapter 2.

The story is basically brain poison. All kinds of stupid.

I'll lay out my thoughts more some other time, but I feel like the fun meta point (you and Big Boss are both part of the legend!) is drowned by the completely bizarre, constantly shifting character motivations, and the tale's utter pointlessness in the overall series canon. Everyone is ridiculous. Every interesting plot idea is sabotaged in one way or another. Even by series standards, the plot is smothered by pseudoscience bullshit. And that's before getting into the blatantly unfinished portions of the story.

It's a good thing the game is fun as hell to play.

Once I learnt that to get Quiet to scout you had to use the menu I loved her. Before that I thought she was bad, especially without a silenced rifle.

Once she got the silenced tranq gun and I knew how to make her scout she became god tier. Once I got her the big ass super rifle she became the best for skulls.

Then she left and now all I have is this dog painted like a fox ;_;

(this is page 313 for normal people. Operation Intrude page 313 is a go. *MSX noises*)

D Walker has some pretty insane damage output, but a lot of his best upgrades are tied to security team which is the lowest prioritized base by default so it takes a long time to get to the point where it can melt entire bases.

Every time I look at DD - or more importantly DHorse - since Quiet left, all I could think of is this

IDK about you guys, but the plot is actually pretty damn appreciable when you realize the truth behind the truth of the story.

The whole plot is massive and elaborate long-tail setup for a five-second
"Vaping is for losers" joke

Note that Venom Snake's "cigar" is an E-Cig, which he uses the whole game... But the REAL DEAL Big Boss immediately goes to smoke a REAL cigar?

"V
aper
has come to."

This was immediately the first thing I thought of when that happened

The funniest thing about this game is how Skull Face's evil mastermind plan went to shit because of a 12 year old punk kid with daddy issues. Even more funny and ironic that Skull Face wanted to destroy the English language but instead got rekd by a kid with a thick English accent lol.

Whats the point of the interpreters like Pashto? I don't remember any enemies speaking Pashto. As far as I recall people only ever spoke Russian or Afrikaans. I don't even remember enemies needing the Kikongo translator.

Pashto is for the Mujahideen, which I think you only find as prisoners.

Kikongo is for the child soldiers.

For the 5th time; I am referring to story, pacing, and playing as real Big Boss.

And yet none of those missions last as long as TPP's and aren't as satisfying. Plus no real Big Boss in TPP.

Pacing, story, & real Big Boss make it better.

this is kind of hilarious considering you spent 99% of the game not knowing he was a fake

unless, of course, you hung around the spoiler thread a before you got it. in which case it's still hilarious

I know it's down to shoddy writing in the end, but I really like to think in my head canon that Skull Face was just not all there in the head and that's why a lot of what he did was so weird and vague. Like, I don't know, at some point he looked in the mirror and thought, Goddman, I have a Skull as my face, and just went bonkers and starting randomly wearing a domino mask thinking he was the Lone Ranger while saying some really ridiculous stuff. I actually liked his look and mannerisms and stuff.

Strangelove's final moments are really disturbing, good thing Otacon turned out the way he did.

So I just beat it.

I understand the story and everything, and it's been fun paging through the thread, but I'm wondering one thing still.

When is Paz in the game? Cuz I don't remember seeing her at all? Maybe I was just really tired and forgot or something but I don't think I ever saw Paz in this game. Is it an optional side thing?

It's an optional side quest on he medbay deck. You can still do it now if you want. Ties into the wandering MB soldiers side op.

Yeah, it's a side thing. The game doesn't direct you there, she's in the medical part of MB.

Huey is easily the most interesting character in the whole game.

I think it's pretty obvious that he didn't actually mean for the UN inspection to be a cover for XOF obliterating mother base and MSF.

But he does such a bad job of selling himself as an ally, he constantly shits all over diamond dogs, he lets his own lies that he has built up around traumatic experiences ruin any reason for people to trust him, he acts like he cares but the second you turn against him he acts like he doesnt care.

Hell he was probably telling himself that strangelove was gonna be fine in the AI pod or something.

Fuckin Huey man, he's a real monster. He's like the perfect example of a passive evil.

I was thinking Huey was going to be a pretty alright guy, too, just going to be like Otacon and all, you know, and in Peace Walker he pretty much was. But damn, did that go south.

I agree with this. Huey is a complex and interesting character. I wish he had more scenes in PP.

Huey isn't really a malevolent character. He's just astronomically selfish and a huge coward who is desperate to be on whichever side he thinks he'll be safest on.

This is pretty funny, yes. I wonder if Eli was even aware he was controlling it.

I still think there's more to the Strangelove pod death than we know, like Huey wasn't there when she fell in or something.

Still, the way he defects from XOF as soon as he hears Big Boss is back, the way he tries so hard to sell his allegiance to DD (although admittedly Kaz was being a huge dick), his constant lies, berating Venom for killing his men during the infection HE STARTED presumably to make himself feel better about causing it (seriously dude?), and the way he totally misses the point of leaving Skull Face to die and shoots him in the head... he's a shady character for sure. The way he's written as a man who rewrites the truth and believes his own lies is actually very well done.

Also, ocelot saying "les infants terribles" with no accent at all was hilarious
..."Less infants terribles"

"You never did like the French"

for all of his great plan he got rekt by Zero's greater plan.

It's basically Skull Face's fault that Zero's AIs went out of control, so he one upped him postmortem.

Liquid shouting 'Its Not Over Yet" with The Twin Towers behind.

Hmmm.

That reminds me, what was up with the different times at the end of the Prologue and Mission 46?

Prologue- Ocelot brings Venom Snake onto the ship around 3-4am
Mission 46- Ocelot meets up with Big Boss while Venom is still inside the ambulance at 6am

Well, in the final scene he did gave us a "smoke and mirrors" kind of thing with VS's reflection walking into the smoke. I'm just glad the twist didn't bother me at all as I was expecting something crazier lol.

As I said before I enjoyed aspects of the story and I'm still playing the game, unlocking new things and loving it.

my favourite bit is when he's yelling at big boss about shooting his own infected dudes

yo huey, you've built two crazy death superweapons in your life and you know for a fact if any of these guys get out there the world is gonna be obliterated by throat parasites, shut your face

"Hilarious" how? Knowing we're not playing as the real Big Boss & that the real Big Boss wasn't doing shit in terms of the events of this game has soured this shit for me.

I think you have a very level headed approach towards the game. What is your take on the twist and the timings that dont match in the prologue and true ending? For me, I am a Phantom now and I am angry at the plot. May be you can help reason it for me brother?

Also, what is your take on this?

hey, if the mere thought that this guy who looks the same, talks the same, has the same abilities (but actually controls better)...being canonically a different person than the one in the demo is enough to ruin an entire game for you, then i sympathize.

but i still find it hilarious

I'm sure it was just my GPU frying or something, but at one point I was carrying a soldier to the chopper and his outfit turned completely white. Kind of like the scene from the deleted episode where Venom saw red as white.

Anyways..

This ingsoc.org shit is insane.

As well as the thread on reddit/r/mgs surrounding it.

Black Hound.... 9/11... Ground Zeroes...

KOJIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

So Skull Face was always supporting Snake in the background, right? During MGS3 and whatnot -- Did they ever mention any specifics of what he was doing? Anything we could see when playing MGS3 and contextualize as Skull Face's doing?
