Once you know the game its very broken and not that big either.

Sadly, the best way to deal with the notorious Mission 16 is just to drive to the airport and fulton the vehicle out. 2 minutes tops. This also means its real time, so the vehicle has an actual starting point you might not know during your first try.

I think every mission can be beaten within 3 minutes. And yes, thats pretty much an instant S rank as well so no need to waste time and risk a lower rank if you're into the ratings.

The final hours of MGS1-4 are all better than all Story Missions and "Bosses" combined in this game. What was Kojima even thinking.

MGS5 was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

It would have reviewed much worse if it didn't have MGS name on it as most wouldn't have played it till the truth mission before reviewing it and they'd have talked about the flaws more openly :p

I get no benefit of it in the following missions because they never affect anything outside of that particular mission or even within that mission. I dont see more Intel or advantage in the following missions that I otherwise won't have if I dont capture/destroy that key secondary target. And if ranking is my goal then they are even less important.

They are just side mission tasks. Side objectives are by definition optional.

And "what you get for extracting people" is typically a specialist that lets you research things. A lot of these are prisoners in missions that have nothing to do with the main objectives.

How is this different from like every metal gear game. The figuring out a fast exploit thing, not the ranks.

I didn't have the Fulton upgrade for mission 16 and it was absolute hell.

I came up with an extremely elaborate way to trap the skulls against a wall, so I could have Quiet take them to half health then I blow the shit out of them with rocket launcher without destroying the truck.

D-Walker's gatling gun makes them Swiss cheese pretty fast.

Final hours as an epic story MGS1-4 against these final hours I'd give you. I did love the sniper skull fight and the Metal Gear mission 31 fight a huge amount though.

I don't think it would have. A lot of the reviews are so enamoured with the gameplay like myself that it would have overcome a lot of things. Now, judging by the chapter 2 reactions in here, if certain outlets actually realised there was a chapter 2, it might have scored a bit worse... But not for me. Goddamn I've not had this much fun with a game in a long, long time.

You can do this in every single mission and get the highest rating from it. Classic MGS challenge was a no kill/alert/death run. I enjoyed those much more. Esp. in MGS3 HD.

This one relies much more on gameplay and open world design (which makes it very repetitive), but you can just go in a bee line and play it more linearly than even classic MG. You can go for all side things but I see little point in doing it.

Its an 'Exit the hot zone' fest. Got sick of that.

This one is barely 2 weeks old, and completely figured out. Its pretty shallow. I beat all 50 missions and... MGSV is really not that good. I would replay the old ones at least 5 times trying other things and using cool unlocks. This one? Probably never again.

Meh, I didnt really like that sniper fight. The fight vs Quiet was better. And even the fight vs Quiet was a joke compared to the pure epicness of the fight vs "The End" in 3.

The Metal Gear fight in Mission 31 was good though. Which makes it all the harder... what could have been....

I agree. It's Metal Gear and the expectations are high regarding the Story's quality, but I still don't see any other open world games with a 'better' story, not even TW3 (main storyline).

Exactly...they are side stuff which is why there needs to be an incentive that's worth it for me to consider doing that over just the main.

They have specialists sometimes but I dont feel hindered when it comes to development of the base if I dont extract them beacuse I do fine otherwise anyway, the specialists from side ops do much more for your base development than the side objectives in your main missin. Then you get to a certain level and all A to S rank people start showing up.

Say if I kill a secondary target, it would be nice to know that he was a commander of some other place I need to infilterate later and as such the dyna.ICS of that mission changes that what I would have normally expected were it not for the commander being dead. Etc.

For example take the case of you killing The End when he is on his wheelchair after a cutacene...killing him then and there meant no boss fight with The End but engagement with the Ocelot unit. I'm talking about that kind of dynamic design philosophy...it doesn't has to be that drastic or anything...just something that gives me an incentive to try other than just because I am a comoletionists and I like to see the boxes checked in.



About the fast completion. This I'd not "figuring it out" this is just blazing through the entire level in the most literal sense. And almost every mission can be broken down like this. You cant in previous games as you still had to at least take into consideration enemy placement and such...here you just ignore everything.

Are you speaking about how the story is told or the actual storyline ?

Because neither is "the best".

The story telling is downright awful, with 90% of very important things on tapes, and the main cutscenes diluted within dozen of filler missions. Not to mention the mute Snake syndrome. It had a strong direction that's about it. I won't mention the lack of interaction with the characters, that you used to get from codec of contextual action, here you do have some with Quiet, and Eli to some extent. Ocelot maybe with that L1 command, still a far cry from the usual.

As for the actual storyline, pretty sure the far fetched "truth" kinda ruined it.

I don't see how Assassin's Creed 2 or the GTA games, Red Dead and stuff did any worse in terms of story.

I mean the whole plot twist revolves around some random dude that got a magical surgery that alters race, hair type, eye color, height, voice, that suddenly replaces the most skilled human being on the planet without anybody noticing.

What a great fucking story.

TW3 has better story, that also happens to be better written. It also has great characterisation. Even if it's a simple plot, the story itself is well presented and that's not what I can say about this game.

it was only withheld from community people like yeong, etc

pretty sure a good few reviewers even got the chapter 2 endings as well.

the reality is, the core game (i.e episode 1-31) won people over enough to give a good review.
 
Christ, the FOB system in this game is such garbage. I just accidentally logged in a few moments ago (I've been playing offline because I didn't want to deal with that bullshit) and because I accidentally hit "accept" this time I got (several?) failed to defend FOB messages and all my struts leveled down.

The game actively punishes you for being offline. What the hell kind of game design is that?

the main story? naah. just as bad as MGSV story. side stories like the baron-quest are pretty good though.
 
Guys I have some questions: Why XOF destroyed MSF in Ground Zeroes? Why Skull Face wanted to kill Big Boss at the hospital? Did Zero knew or approved? If yes, why does he help Big Boss by creating Venom in MGS V?
 
It's conflicting.

It's not a bad game.

It was actually excellent.

But "what could have been", missing parts of the game, the lack of codec, mute snake, almost non existing boss fights, awkward cutscenes, the fact you have to redo the missions twice, and the awfully shitty "plot twist reveal", kind of ruin the game.

I thought it was excellent after playing mission 31. Right now I consider it a huge letdown, and I have a lot of hate for the story and final product when I look back on it.

I rarely played a game that retroactively made me hate it. Hate is probably a strong word, it's just a game. But wow I am salty about that whole thing.
 
I don't want to play conspiracy theorist here but perhaps Konami knew the ending would be polarised and that's why they decided to hold these review events the way that they did.

Because I honestly think the way it all ended is definitely something that sounds terrible if you didn't play the game at all and is deflating if you did.

It was another fight where he controls metal gear .

The whole "chapter 2" was supposed to be on a third open world map.

With a war going on, your base versus Eli, at the climax.

That's mostly why you have to replay chapter 1 mission to get new cutscenes, instead of having new missions...........

People need to post total game times or something. I find it hard to believe on an initial playthrough you were ably to just blaze through everything. Even the initial Afghan bases, let alone Code Talker mission or whatever.

I mean I guess it's possible to just run around and get shot at and try to avoid dying and alert bases all the time and still complete main objectives. If you want to play like that, go ahead!
 
Everyday passing, the unfinished thing is getting more and more annoying. I hate it so much right now.

I am not mad at Konami or Kojima, I am just mad that this shit happened.

If this game had actual level design, more locations such as the mansion, you would really need to use your sneaking skills and you wouldn't be able to go into a straight line as per 90% of this game. But I tackled the mansion in this by interrogating one guard who gave up the location and just walk there through the side entrance right towards the old guy (because this entrance had non moving guards and was out of others sight lines). That was my first run and I was disappointed. I hoped I had to search the place.

If they made side missions relevant and required (and not feel like padding), it would already take more effort to beat.

I feel the same. I loved the gameplay but I really do struggle to play the game after seeing the ending. I feel so strongly about it that I sold every part of my Collector's Edition except the game.

Sometimes you get specialists, which'll make later missions easier if you develop stuff, but I totally agree.

Seems so. I really wonder how far along they were with the third area, if they had cutscenes 30% done for it.
 
I am very interested in seeing a single segment 50 mission speedrun for MGSV from a fresh save. It would take serious planning due to the developments, endurance, and memorization.

It can surely be done in 4 hours.

Yeah, I honestly feel like the whole twist is game breaking. It ruins the experience on repeat play. And it needlessly ruins Metal Gear too.

I love the game, don't get me wrong. But yeah the twist is just so dumb.

Granted the first 20 missions took me a long ass time, but then I sort of got burnt out by the game and tried a more direct approach. I beat most missions from there within mere minutes. And my ranks improved. That didn't feel right to me.

I think Pitch Dark was one of the best missions. You had 2 required objectives at least, and it wasn't wise to set off the first one before you did the second.
 
So let me get this straight: Mantis wears that red thing on his shoulder when he helps Eli and he wears the R Kelly mask when he helps Skullface. So the time time when he wears the horn in his head means he was summoning the giant whale to help Venom temporarily? Either way, I'm still thinking about how dumb Skullface was to rely on something that can switch sides so easily or just stop to look at something else ( like when he stopped Volgin's attack to look at that dying kid).

The "you have to replay the same missions at chapter 2 to open new story missions" need to go. I have only played the yellow new missions and some side ops in between to open more story missions.
