Is this the first Metal Gear Solid without even as much as a single mention of Solid Snake? Are they seriously just calling it MGS for the brand recognition?
solid stands for 3d not solid snake.

plus he's mentioned like twice. once verbally in the truth tapes and again a few times in the timeline at the end.

Did everyone spot the reflection in the window when you zoom in inside the ACC? I don't know if it's there from the start, I only noticed once the horn was a bit bigger.

When/where do you encounter boss ai pod telling venom he isnt the snake she knows? It it a cassette tape or cutscene i missed?

I got the liquid cassette where his DNA test failed so at least that was a nice red herring as it made me think eli was someone else. Didnt make me think of a bb doppelganger.

So you see there are some nice ideas and red herrings, but the storytelling (through cassette tapes) kinda makes you miss out and not pay attention.

Especially since codetalkers wolbachia coppultaing vocal parasites lingua franca nonsense, sets your cassette tape listening tolerence to an all time low.

When you extract Huey.

Just finished the other night, can't believe Quiet's just gone. I mean story-wise it makes total sense, but god dammit I miss her :( I didn't think that would happen but after 100+ hours with the game I guess I got attached.

Really disappointed with chapter 2 overall, it didn't resolve any plot threads except Quiet's. Eli's just out there with Sahelanthropus? That's nuts! The Shining Lights mission felt like it should've been way earlier, too. It feels weird to say this about a 100+ hour game but it feels unfinished.

Also Ocelot is a terrible character in this game. He's all over the place and his VO is terrible, he never had a deep south accent and Baker's performance annoys the shit out of me, but he's badly written too. One minute he's torturing people the next he's the Good Cop. So inconsistent.

edit: Also there was a short cut scene at one point where Code Talker was talking to himself and then Boss interrupts him and he says "eyes on Kazuhira" or something, implying he's a traitor maybe? What's up with that. Nothing came of it.

Just accidentally triggered a massive bug with the PC version that let's you equip any part to any gun in the customize weapon menu holy shit.

Just by using left click instead of space or enter it seems to bug the whole thing out.

I just put an LMG mag on the sniper rifle

Trying to recreate it but I am like 90% sure it has to do with left click.

Holy shit you're right! That is insane.

To claifry some more:
Go into Weapon Customisation
Pick a gun
Use Left Click to select a slot
Can now pick anything for that slot, provided you have it unlocked for something
You can even pick items in slots that are blocked out (with the red box thing)

Finally can put a silencer on my rubber bullet firing assault rifle.

Uh who got that scene with Quiet jumping in the chlorine tank? I haven't seen that discussed before.

Got it. Such a nice scene. Then when i return after couple of mission, suddenly Quiet is tortured by ocelot and i was like WTF?

Now that i have reached the ending, i don't really mind it. A shame Eli end arc got cut off. I wonder why they didn't explain to it in tape or end card if they can't include it...
Something like 'eli abandoned sahalentropus and goes back to UK, while the other kids gone missing, presumably killed in their escape attempt"

Watch Episode 51 on youtube. It's the conclusion to Eli's story

oh yeah I saw some crazy guns on Something Awful with this. SMG rocket launchers or something.

Ok, is there some bug related to A Quiet Ending and the actual Quiet end? Because I've just YouTube'd that mission and her ending, and I DID NOT get to see that on my playthrough? For me, the last I saw of Quiet was when she jumped down to get the necklace. A Quiet Ending for me ended with them sending Huey out on the boat?!

Why didn't I get to see this?

Do you have a butterfly in your emblem?

Is your bond with her maximized? Just play some Side-Ops and it will eventually pop up.

After that scene she was assigned to the sickbay on my idroid for a while.

Alright, this is getting weirder - if my previosu post wasn't clear enough, I have beaten the game including the last mission, 46. I am SURE I've had A Quiet Ending and played it in my mission list, and since I didnt spoil myself I thought it had to do with her when I played it, but it was the Huey send-off mission, which I thought was weird. But I just thought that the mission name was supposed to make you think Quiet was going away, when it was in fact Huey who got an ending.

Now that I go back in to the game, post-completion, the A Quiet Ending-mission is NOT in my mission list. Still, I am absolutely positive it's been there and that I've accepted it...

She's in the Brig for me..

PC version is already loaded with cheaters, so this just makes them more cheaty.

It's funny that with all the cheating it still seems like there isn't a defense in getting CQC'd the. Fulton'd unless I'm wrong.

Speaking of Fultons, just noticed D Walker's Fulton launcher targets are free. If GMP wasn't easy enough to get, would be a nice way of grinding I guess.

I got it. Nice scene but I'm not sure if my game bugged or it's the normal way it pans out but the next cutscene I got was Quiet being tortured, I was like really guys ?

Yeah that was just pure bad triggering on your game's part

Still, it's crazy Miller as always.

I thought it was implied that while she was being treated for the injuries sustained when she jumped into the chlorine, they discovered the other stuff that allowed them to determine who she really was and that's why the torture.

I just finished the true ending myself. Yeah, wow. The implications. "Ground Zeroes" as a term makes sense now. It's crazy.

And now after the credits, there's about 12 tapes to listen to. Anything to keep this mindfuck going.

Implications aren't that deep after all.
Venom died at the end of MG1 anyway.

Personally i like this twist, but i hoped it'd get a little deeper than that, and by having it, we actually skip the main plot point that the game was supposed to tackle (Big Boss shift to being a real prick).

Infact, given the events of this game, we find out that BB was basically just always a big prick, but we still never see this transition.

I guess the way it affected Liquid is the biggest thing, but even then Liquid didn't live for very long considering the revelations of MGS4.

That is correct, they find a petal of the hospital's flower in the lungs, as well as that shit BB throws on her to burn her to death, but they should've had a cutscene showing that, to make it more clear and not having Big Boss feeling like an apathetic monster.

OR DID HE?!

To be never continued
The way i understand it (and i never played MG1, so i'm going by what i've seen and read of it) is that the real BB talks to you and guides you through the mission, but then at the end you face Venom Snake as dupe BB (of course this was all a plan of the real BB).
So you do kill him there.
And then in MG2 you (try to but fail to) burn the real BB to death.

I get fucking mad when I read shit like this:

The whole story of MGSV is handled poorly. In fact, everything but the gameplay is handled poorly.

I tink the story tackles some very interesting plot points, and also i like the darker tone more, but yeah, it's just put together very clumsily.
Some blame the open world structure for this, but i disagree with that notion.

Having some of those crucial tapes be cutscenes and sprinkle them throughout would've helped a lot already.
They have some useless (shower scene) cutscenes, and then some crucial moments are relegated to audiologs, it's a cretin choice.

More over, they spend so much time with Quiet, when she is a mostly useless character for the story's progression.
It wouldn't have a problem, if the game wasn't so starved on story development, but as of now it feels like Kojima ruined the game to fulfill his fucking crush on that model.

Just read in another thread that letting D-Horse poop on you works too.
I think I'll give it a miss.

You not into that?

I've just had a staff member back at motherbase tell me "Boss.... Harder.." when I told him to spit it out. This game is getting pretty hot between them and horse hard sports.

Yeah...as shitty a thing as it seems to be to say right now, after the way pretty much everything related to the plot in this game went, I'm not all that torn up anymore about someone other than Kojima getting a shot at the series. I'm beginning to think maybe the problems they had transitioning someone else into the director's chair were more his being a control freak and less "everybody else sucks."

It's good for him and everyone else involved that he's gonna get some distance from the franchise now.

Anyone got the "you stink boss" cutscene? I've not showered in about 20 hours and still haven't got it.

From what I've read, you need to not die as well. Dumpsters help a lot to get the flies.

I got it pretty early on because I never noticed the showers. Just do a bunch of the easy earlier missions and get bloodied up real good.

Yeah, after this I'm fine with someone else taking a punt at the game, but I really hope the team responsible for most of the gameplay decisions and the eye for detail the gameplay allows for is still there if they do decide to make more in the same vein as this one.

My list keeps growing.

There is also a texture for Paz which has The Boss's chest/scar on it and two pairs of teeth, as if for some reason both characters were supposed to be one in some way, maybe through hallucinations.

Oh and is Quiet gone for everybody else after the final ending? Because for me she's still selectable as a buddy.
