The only comment that could even remotely be perceived as angry is this one.

And that's just showing disappointment with the real ending.

Dunno what thread you're reading.

I present to you:
I am certainly dissappointed with the ending, but I was already before the comic was read by me. The comic is only a catalyst because it's presenting a beautiful possiblitiy to end the game. To give it some roundness, some feels, some tears.

Kojima didn't finish the game properly. And this short comic shows how he could've rounded up the story with a few minutes of extra footage that would make men and women weep. It's on possibility. The ending as it is, is not satisfying. Neither as tie between games, nor as end of the stroy itself.

no we needed a scene showing everyone at mother base watching quiet shower

It isn't a 10/10 for me. It's an 8/10. The reason being the lack of or the disappointing boss battles. I believe MGS boss battles are integral to MGS gameplay. Since this game disappoints in that factor, I knocked it down.

I actually feel that what they did with the boss battles here is fine.

The point of a boss battle is to show what you've learned uptill that point. The sandbox gameplay allows for experimentation, and that is exactly what you should do with the boss fights.

drop a supply crate on quiet/ come in with a tank (which is an option that opens up much later) or just duel it out like a sniper ala End 2.0.

fulton the truck before you encounter the skulls

Avoid facing the skulls altogether as you upgrade ur camo

If a game teaches you mechanics and then you actually apply them in the game - then you have passed the test. For this reason, I think the boss fights are ok.

Except Sahlenthropus and mission 29. You just have to kill them. There are options to kill them even here (air strikes/D Walker machine gunning) but I'd prefer that there was way to avoid them altogether, that would be truer to the 'sandbox' nature of the game.

I'm not going to be the first one, and surely wont be the last one too. But I'm mad.

I enjoyed the hell of the game until the lackluster ending and the fact that I wont have Quiet back. It's a shame that we need o hold on that mission just to keep her. Now it's gone. Now I feel the phantom pain. #bringquietback

8/10 for me. The game has its lows but overall its great and more easy than I expected.

There's no need to get so pissed. This game is turning everyone into a demon.
I am?

I mean for my own reasons I really like the comic, but not to a point where I want tear Koj a new one. I still accept the original ending as is; this could be my head-canon supplementary to that.
Hmmm, nope, too hollywood for me; dislike.
Maybe but we got Meryl and Johnny Mr and Mrs. Smith-ing in Outer Haven

That was the most Hollywood thing that can ever happen in MGS.

So use it in your head-canon, my friend.

When can you develop the ability to open doors like a normal person? For the world's greatest soldier, BB has no idea how to open a door quietly.

Dunno if this was posted here already, but here's a relatively in depth write up of the ending from the Giant Bomb forums: http://www.giantbomb.com/metal-gear...te-ending-discussion-spoilers-1781915/?page=1

While the author's theories contextualize things better, I still hate that the game did this. Way to completely retcon Big Boss/Naked Snake as a character by making him into a complete nothing. Never mind the fact that earlier in the game, it was stated that XOF and skull face were the ones responsible for helping Snake in operation Snake Eater too, now on top of him never actually doing anything by himself his entire legacy after that is a lie too. So much for being The Boss's apprentice. After PW and MGSV, I'm convinced that Kojima just hated MGS3 and has been working to ruin it ever since. Everything to come out after 3 has done nothing but take away from its plot and characters.

Last Day in Outer Heaven.

If only Phantom Pain ended in something remotely close as to the depictions of this fan-made comic. This is my way to dealing with the phantom pain of this game.

This is perfection. The ending I imagined and dreamed up in my head. The final boss would be a re imagining of the battle with Solid Snake from Metal Gear, except you are playing as Big Boss (or, as we'd learn, the phantom). Full fucking circle.

; _ ;

Also I can't believe people are upset about MGS5's ending in the series that gave us MGS2's bullshit half-hour codec ending and MGS4's "SURPRISE BIG BOSS WASNT DEAD AFTER ALL and also Snake doesn't kill himself despite that being the natural conclusion for his arc we've been working towards the entire game" ending.

This is a great ending, especially by comparison.

You need to realise these are early knee-jerk reactions.

Everyone here finished the game a few days (or even hours) before.

Once the dust settles, people will be more level headed in how they judge the game.

Right now its just rage. THIS GAMMME IS TRASH, I'M BURNING MY MGS POSTERS, KOJIMA u HACK...yeah ok buddy this is the same dude who have us liquid arm and nanomachine BB which you praised as GOTY in their respective years...

Undercutting that with a last-minute Codec call to the real Big Boss would've been MGS 4-level pandering but I guess some people really like that.
Pretty much

I think the story is flawed and underdeveloped, but I don't need a touchy feely moment between Venom and Big Boss as an end to MGSV.

When can you develop the ability to open doors like a normal person? For the world's greatest soldier, BB has no idea how to open a door quietly.

Splinter Cell mastered the door opening mechanic ages ago! It gave you a context menu to bash it, open it normally, or manually control the speed at which you opened it so you could do it slowly.

That comic is terrible fan pandering wankery. I actually would have just been angry if it ended like that.

You know Venom, we really are The Phantom Pain.

Seconded. That's why it's fan fiction, it's the things everyone thinks they want to see, gotta spell it all out, gotta bring all the characters together for no reason, gotta make Meryl marry Johnny, gotta have Snake not die at the end, gotta have Big Boss show up one last time, oh look Zero is also there for some reason... you get the idea. People eat it up and it fills them up but it leaves nothing to the imagination. And yeah, that comic that's so "brilliant" just makes more explicit all the things the ending as-is hints at subtly and much more cleverly (the "Operation Intrude N313" tape, SO GOOD). Undercutting that with a last-minute Codec call to the real Big Boss would've been MGS 4-level pandering but I guess some people really like that.

Who wanted Meryl to marry Johnny? I don't think people who liked MGS4's ending even liked that shit. MGSV's minimal ending would have been better had the story and presentation beforehand been more substantial, the revelations been presented in a more satisfying manner. Instead we're just supposed to buy into this character as being the most capable and loyal man that Big Boss ever had despite never learning anything about his character. Not in GZ and not in TPP. It's a game built around a twist and not a story and as a result leaves players feeling cold. The twist itself isn't inherently bad, but it's bad because it simply reveals the twist and then expects that twist itself to be more than enough to satisfy players.

I'm guessing people that have trouble with doors are using keyboards?
I don't think there is a variable walk speed a la splinter cell if you use a keybard.

I present to you:

I'm a little peeved that the character you play as throughout the game gets zero characterization. I don't care about the pep talk at the end telling me that the real big boss was inside of our hearts all along, all we had to do was believe. Venom is still a separate human being. It's dumb to just fold him into the character of big boss because of hypnotherapy, but given Kojima's track record, maybe I shouldn't expect so much.

Edit: if you hold ctrl on a keyboard you walk slower. really only useful for doors, like you said, since the sneaking suit makes footsteps irrelevant.

It's really amazing how that Last of us joke works every time.

I still feel like Kojima vastly overestimated his face-capturing tech(they were even boasting about it). Throughout the game, you can see that Venom is supposed to be all about face and body expression, but it just isn't there. LA Noire tech would have nailed it.

Yeah, great. I make one significant decision throughout the entire game. I totally feel like I embody this character and have player agency that sends ripple effects throughout the rest of the story. The silent protagonist in Chrono Cross makes more significant story decisions than Venom Snake.

The walk speed doesn't seemingly matter. Even if you inch forward, the doors and gates in MGSV slam open and nearby guards will hear it.

Anyone should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Welcome to the Mass Effect 3 pain.

This is one of the main reasons that, despite the fact Venom is just a device for a plot twist/player ego stroke, I would actually be curious for more of him in the future.

You don't just tell a guy who firmly believe he's BB that he's not and expect him to be OK with it. There's just so much to explore from that.

You are wrong ;P, you can tell you opened it silently by it not making a slamming sound, it's fairly easy, I do it all the time.

Welcome to the Mass Effect 3 pain.

I don't mind lack of crucial decisions. But if we're gonna argue that Venom Snake is supposed to work as a player avatar, then there needs to be some point to it other than a half-assed "Big Boss is the legend you craft." Except I didn't craft shit other than to choose whether Quiet comes with me or not and who I fulton and who I don't. Raiden is a better player avatar than VS while still retaining his own character.

Everyone talks shit about Code Talker, but the guy did great.

It's not his fault that for the most part he was stuck with:

"Wolbachia, parasites, symbiosis, copulate, parasites, female, male, copulate, wolbachia, Jurassic park."

And that's what sucks about the ending, is that venom is only treated as a throwaway player insert character. that shit doesn't work if the player isn't self inserting throughout the whole game because they think they're big boss.

And maybe that's the point. we're meant to be upset that we weren't big boss at the end, because venom is as well. and that's why he punches the mirror. but even if that's the point, why does big boss's pep talk try to tell us the exact opposite, and that it's totally cool because we did this together?

I get it, but i think it falls flat. It's a twist seemingly engineered to have a sappy "YOU'RE big boss!" moment at the end of the game, and it's lame.

i think that years from now no one will remenber Diamond Dogs as having the same impression as MSF, FOXHOUND, or anything, Kaz will be remenbered for never shutting up instead of his revenge, MGSV Ocelot won't even be spoken of, and Venom will mostly be forgotten since he doesn't impact the other games at all. We'll just remenber how Big Boss was off somewhere, in a probably better game.

MG1?

Eli is my least favorite character in the game. He's angry all the time. His anger is such a critical plot point that it's the driving force behind the ruination of Skull Face's plans.

But why is he so angry? Why should I care about him? There are some blanks you can fill in thanks to a few lines ("I want to see my father"), but he's nothing except for his rage to destroy anyone or anything with authority over him. Nothing worth making him the antagonist for what would have been the final battle of the game.

So why did Big Boss kill him in MGS4?

He didn't kill Zero out of revenge, he put him out of his misery. Finally ending things once and for all since BB knows he's going to die soon too. Everything back to zero and what not.

Also Kojima didn't have any MGSV stuff in mind when he made MGS4.

The last 5 minutes in this game is sadly going to hog so much of the story discussion, when there's a whole game of story problems before we even get there.

My disappointment lies not with the twist, but with the overall poor story presentation and awful narrative choices throughout the game. Regardless off Venom and BB, the cut scenes were so average, the parasite story so fucking dry. Imagine if Venom started the game off as silent and as passive as he is, but then by the end was talking as much as any previous Snake. There was no sense of progression. The feeling of drawing closer to something was downright tangible in MGS1 and 3 for example. Here it was hopping around to a different circle on a map.

Exactly, everything points towards Big Boss fucking Venom over in the end. That comic would have changed it and made it worse than it already is.

Just finished mission 46....I dont know what to do with my life anymore....

BTW: What happens with Quiet...i mean after the tape she leave for Venom Snake
