I really can't wait to see Guile. I hope he's early DLC and that we even see him in the story mode. His theme is just too perfect to not be used at a pivotal story moment, ya feel me?

He's gotta be in the story somewhere, but who knows if they'll use in-game models.

I am looking forward to seeing his model in this engine. His SFIV one was so wonky.

yea he he looked like butt. they didn't get his look right at all IMO. I feel the same way about gief. i mean a lot of characters looked a bit off which is understandable given a new artstyle and 3d models, but those two were the most disappointing.

SvC had the best Guile model/sprite

Speaking of Guile, there has got to be 1 or 2 slots reserved for zoners. I also think we are due 1 shoto and 1 pure grappler. And what about a boxer and rekka character?

5 more characters to fulfill these gameplay styles.

If Siliconera is right, the rekka will be Karin.

People are guessing the new brazilian will be a MMA fighter, so that should fill the boxer. I hope they are wrong though, I would love to play as the brazilian, but I am not a big fan of boxers.

Outside Dudley, guy is awesome, but I suck with him. The only boxer I adapted well was Akihiko in P4 Arena.

Rainbow Mika is already our pure grappler. And if Siliconera is right, Karin will be our rekka character.

Zoning also seems like it would get blasted with all of the anti zoning tech every character has.
Exactly. Anyone whose gimmick is zoning is gonna get their ass handed to them in SFV unless they have ways around all of the anti-zoning tech in the game.

Fireball zoners might have an awful time due to the mechanics of this game.

If there is ever a projectile zoner, my selfish vote goes to Remy.

SF3 is the antithesis of zoning but Remy somehow avoided the gutter trash tier.

anti-air are good in this game. Give guile his c.hp and his air throw priority and good recovery booms hes good. His buttons are generally good. He will fit in fine in SFV. with vortex on knockdown gone he will be fine in SFV. I will say with as good as anti airs are in this game and with good recovery on boom he will be top tier.

Who in this game would take down Dhalsim for free?

I actually hypothesize that our zoner will maintain space more through mobility than attacks. Imagine a Dhalsim with Teleport as his V-Skill.

Zoning can survive pretty well in SFV. Quick recovery on a fireball, or variable ones like Gouken and Poison, combined worh good normals/anti-airs could work well. Zoning has always depended on the player being constantly on-point to avoid being blown up with a good jump/parry/focus. With higher damage on individual hits or small combos a dedicated zoner could thrive.

I was thinking more of zoners with projectiles as their means of zoning, but Rashid could do something about Dhalsim.

SvC Guile is ugly as sin.

Just because the game didn't get a release in the West doesn't automatically make all the designs cool. Most of the designs in that game look like complete shit.

Potion is the perfect example.

Was it not released here at all? I played a cab of SVC in a family fun center a couple mounths ago. I

New Ono interview

Well here’s a question that will be easier to answer: do you have a favorite Street Fighter character?

I’ve always said over the years as people have asked me, my favorite characters are Cammy and Rainbow Mika. Mika in particular has not been in the series for a long time and over the years I’ve heard many many people say to me “Bring her back! Bring her back!” because she only appeared in one game. Now she’s back! I really hope people can see that I wasn’t ignoring them, I was just finding a way to bring her back into the game. It makes me very happy to see her return too.

For Street Fighter 5, you’ve taken a different approach to DLCs where new characters can be unlocked rather than purchased, which is a great thing for gamers, of course, but I’m just curious about what brought on this change.

For me, anything that makes the players happy is fine with me, although I’d be lying if I said there weren’t many elements within Capcom who were worried about taking the approach in that direction in terms of business.

But basically we want to have a product that matches the times of its release date and this system we had with Street Fighter 4 where we released a number of disc-based updates like the Super Version, the Ultra Version, and the 2012 Version, and asking users to essentially pay for a new product every time. I think we’ve kind of gone from that. PC games, online games, and mobile games have really changed the game in that sense in that there’s less and less of a trend in the industry of people to pay you a certain amount for a big product and that’s it. They got it and they play it.

There’s a certain change in the way things are going and it ties into the way we want to use the PS4 online services effectively. As you know we have these characters and people have the option to buy the character at once. If they don’t want to there are other ways to get it in the game. We wanted to put these services out for the players so that they can choose which way they want to interact with them.

People might say that they don’t want to buy a game because they know that there will be a newer version later in the year and they might have some concerns. But this is it. If you go and buy this game on the day it comes out, you’ve got Street Fighter 5. It’s gonna run continuously from there on.

I told you that I said I’d be lying if there were elements in the company who were maybe concerned about this direction. What I want to do is relieve those concerns and get them off my back by and to say to you guys out there that you can go out on day 1 and buy this or even pre-order it right now if you want and that’s it, you’re in the game, you’ve got Street Fighter 5, you’ve got full confidence in the fact that it’s all right there for you. That’s the part I need you guys’ help on to help [Capcom] realize that this was the right way to go with the game.

So this is basically reassurance that they won't do a Super version or anything of the sort.
He's been saying that for months.

It sounds more like Ono not so gently suggesting you go out and buy this shit so he doesn't look like an asshole in front of his bosses.
Indeed. Makes me want to buy DLC here and there to let Capcom know this is the right way.

I just wonder how Capcom will be able to churn out enough content to keep people interested. They'll probably have to go for lots of cheapo DLC like Character Announcer DLC and Color Alt DLC.

I could see them releasing color packs for the alt colors found in SFII, III, & IV. Third Strike - Online Edition did something similar for the New Generation & Second Impact colors (for the characters who were in those games, obviously).

Someone tweet Ono and tell him to give us a new character hint/tease!

I still think they will as a form of 'goty'-like release after a year or 2.

I am hoping they talk about Beta2 at TGS.

I also want to know what the hell Psycho Inferno is for now if it's negative on block. Seriously, what is this move for?

Yeah, I'm sure there will be annual "collections" as we get more characters, and I'm likewise sure that ignorant people will be like, "GLAD I WAITED!" "CACPCOM GONNA CAPCOM!" "I THOUGHT THEY SAID NO UPDATES!" and the like.

Well, I have little issue with that.

The "go out and buy it" part I mean.

It's his job to tell people to buy the game. What they're doing with this entry is risky, so it's nor surprising that he's being upfront about it. The free character DLC approach isn't something you see any other fighting game series trying. Even if it does take a long time to unlock them, it's still an option that doesn't exist elsewhere. So, as he said it's important to show those at Capcom that this was the right direction for the franchise.

I kinda expect them to take a DoA path with the costume DLC. Lots of them to make up for the free characters. And they have crossover costume possibilities that'll ramp up sales as well. A Jill BSAA costume for Cammy would be very popular.

I think they will just have bundle sales like Legue of Legends and won't really call it anything other than character/ costume bundles or whatever have you.

I agree. In fact, I prefer this method of unlocking characters even though it might take a bit of grinding to do so.

Maybe it's just the cynic in me, but that interview read eerily similar to any number of those where execs embellish their microtransaction/DLC nonsense ("looking at the PC/mobile markets" "giving players choice/options").

I've nothing in particular against Ono, so I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt until they finally reveal in detail how this whole thing will be handled. I'd love to be the first to eat my hat.

Nah, it's a reassurance that if they make a Super or what ever version, it'll also be available as a free update. They're not saying there wont be any other SFV updated releases, just that you're good to go with the base game.

I'll be sad if there's no Super/Hyper/EX edition down the line. It's Street Fighter tradition at this point. Just make it part of the free DLC.

But Ken Bogard specifically said no Super version.

Just using Super as an example of big updates with disc release, they hinted at big updates during EVO panel along with more story contents post release. They don't want only competitive players sticking with the game post release. What I assume would happen is:

- SFV, lets say, 2.0 with balance update, some new mechanics maybe, extra online features, new stages, new story contents, all the character and costumes released between Vanilla SFV and 2.0 in a 60$ package.
- Those who only bought Vanilla SFV would get all the gameplay related stuff and online features as a free update. Everything else they'd have to either pay for as a DLC or pick up the new disc release to get it.

I believe they've said you would only ever need 1 disc ever.

I have to imagine that throughout the years they'll have to keep releasing new discs with all the the DLC characters as "GOTY" editions.

They want the microtransaction money from costumes and stuff- they're not going to let you get everything for 60 bucks.
