Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

So far I am enjoying the taken king. One of my friends stated that if you like the looks of a piece of armor that you can put that look on another piece of armor. ALso that if you liked a stat on a particular gun (exotics excluded) that you could move it to another gun (again exotics excluded here as well). Is there any truth to this or was this just myth and conjecture?

For infusions, are there any restrictions on the type of weapon you use to upgrade others and does it give the full attack power to the infused gun? I really like the feel of my Answering Chord but it's only 200.

No restrictions on Type. It HAS to occupy the same slot

So primaries can be used to upgrade other primaries

Also the weapon you sacrifice has to be stronger than the one you are infusing. It raises the value in some percentage (not max right away like etheric light.) There is some kind of formula but the gist is that you will have to do more or less infusions depending on how far you want to close the gap

So I can't help but feel like I'm at a disadvantage in Crucible because I don't have a Messenger. Even if I do well I think I could've done even better if I had one, and every time I get killed by it just rubs more dirt in the wound.

The last time I was in this exact same position was when I was waiting for a Hawkmoon to drop. And I was right to feel that way, because Hawkmoon legitimately used to arguably be the best weapon in PvP.

Anyone know when Vance will be due to have the Messenger again?
I doubt we'll even get the same Messenger whenever Brovance returns. In the meantime, there are some other viable weapons you might want to look into that are still available: Bad juju, Mida, Red Death, Strangers Rifle, Preadyths Timepiece, VoC. Even some AR's can put in work in the right hands. when going up against a Messenger, just stay out of it's strengths which is long range and angles. If you get tagged by one, you're likely one shot from death since it can kill with 2 bursts..dont challenge, heal up and flank. It's slow ROF allows it to be countered by closing the gap.

False. You can upgrade legendary armor or weapons to max defense/attack, but you can't move perks and looks between items.

but is that different from the sword I got from the Crusable dude?

I'm a bit lost with 2 pages of Quests

my Tower has blinking marker but when I visit nothing there :(
dammit makes following my quests harder

Uhh no. It's the same one. Eris gives you the quest then Crucible guy makes it. Is there a second sword quest?

Not very many but after you finish it you open up a ton and I mean a ton of quest lines. Really there's too much to do after the story.

Yeah seriously. Those Taken War missions as someone with <220 light:

How are the quests though? Are they bounties with several steps?

Some are bounties and some are actual quests. Some are strikes as well. The actual quests that are unlocked are harder than what you've done in the story due to the enemy composition and not by sheer overpowering you with light levels. The strikes are some of the best in the game as well.

An example of how poor the store was portrayed before The Taken King...I didn't know that the guy from The Wire who does voice overs before missions is the Titan Vanguard...and I am a Titan. lol

Loving the new expansion right now, only 3 mission in but so far so good.

Seriously, I didn't realize Fillion played the robot dude either. It's nice to finally associate faces with these voices now.

Can someone explain the Court of Oryx items I'm accruing? Says I can summon enemies in the Court and power up some OTHER thing which can summon more powerful enemies.

Nice, I've only had like 3 or 4 hours to play so far but finished several of the missions and got my Titan to 39 just from doing those and some of the pve bounties.

Can't wait until Saturday evening and Sunday. Play all day.

I did about 3 or 4 last night, and was shocked to see that they're legit missions involved. I was expecting them to be like bounties as well.

They even dive into some the lore we've only read on grimoires.

This was one of the biggest jokes of the vanilla game. They hired major talent, recognizable and notable actors:

And then made them all fucking vendors or announcers with literally a page or two of dialog. Like, what the fuck happened?

The first story mission in TTK almost doubles the dialog and increases the amount of personality several of the characters have by a large magnitude compared to the vanilla game.

Not sure where that photo spread came from, but I'm amused at how Dinklage isn't even in there. :p

What level (and light value) are you now? And did you finish the vanilla Destiny story beforehand? Realistically they've interwoven the previous DLC episodes (Dark Below and House of Wolves) into the story so there's no real set order you need to do anything. Just pick a Quest that you find interesting (from the pause screen) and follow the thread. TDB content takes place on the Moon and Earth and starts around lv 10, House of Wolves is mostly Venus and starts around lv 17-Ish, and the new Taken King missions seem all over the place but start at level 25.

It's become quite a bit more nonlinear; no real right or wrong path, just do whatever feels right. Content should have a suggested level and light value marked on the main map screen.

Level 25, I just got something that made my light go way up but I don't know, like 240? 140? I really didn't pay too much attention other than it shot way up. So I should just jump to taken king then?

As far as finishing vanilla is concerned, I did everything except raid, I never got into a raid.

For my money, Hopscotch Pilgrim's the best pulse in the game at the mo, but to be honest there's not that much between the top 5 or 6.

I did snag a great new purple cannon today. Seems to be related to Hawkmoon and has even better range when perked up.

Cool, that's pretty much what I expected. Haven't gotten anything worth infusing until now.

Did you check every corner of the tower? You may have a dead orbit quest but it's bugged. Get closer to the hanger and see if anything shows up or just run around the entire tower.

i did check with everyone there. none seemed to activate it

edit: just found a bunch of quests at the abandoned quest station.

I put it together for the post. Omitted Dinklage since he was the one actor who had a significant amount of work in the game to justify his hiring.

Haha even this post is an understatement. The drop system actually makes sense now. It really is smart loot and not straight up lottery winnings lol.

Not sure how accurate this is. I had a level 40 set of legendary gloves for some reason given to me when I was 36. Then I hit 40 and the first legendary the game gives me is a, you guessed it, gloves. So I was all greens and blues and one purple and it gives me another purple to replace the only purple I already had. There's definitely more blue drops now though. It rains them.

does anyone know why the game is telling me i have a quest at the tower when i obviously have none?

Same. There's no one waiting for a quest turn in anywhere, but it says I have one.

For some reason I don't have the veteran's tour quest showing up. I'm not sure why. I bought TTK and I have both DLCs. Could it be because I didn't finish every quest for the DLC yet or something like that? Really annoying. I want that loot.

did anyone pick up an armsday package?

Reddit is saying they are 280 weapons.... but if your rank one can you really just pick up a 280 weapon every week that easily? Seems too easy.

edit: top of the page!

Ha I've actually been cycling through all of those trying to find a good fit. My performance has been comparable to pre-patch but it's tough knowing I could be potentially doing even better if I had a Messenger.

Good tips for going against one.

I purchased the TKK and it came with the first two expansions. I have not played any expansion. Is there a guide that will tell me the order to play this in? Choosing a mission has me a bit confused. I completed the main story long ago.

I think you need to wait a week. I bought the Suros Scout order and didn't get a weapon, so I guess it comes next week. Also you can only have 1 order per week it seems.

-edit- Hopefully it is a 280 weapon, but with infuse it doesn't really matter. By next week I'm sure I already have a 280+ weapon.

I think cashing in motes for gear XP is an unsung hero of the expansion. From running a few activities last night and today, I had 10 motes. After turning in some quest steps and engrams, I had a lot of new gear, cashed in the motes, and got the first several nodes unlocked on each. They seem to drop ~1,000 XP per mote. I have 900 of them in the vault - they'll come in handy once I get more legendary and exotic gear.

Destiny does a good job now of feeding a steady stream of gear and loot not tied to RNG. At any point in time 3 or 4 of my gear kit has come from quest drops, not RNG, and that seems to be increasing as I work into the later quest stages. When combined with motes it means there's a dedicated stream of good gear, and a way to unlock perks on them quickly. They get to be awesome right away. (I'm all for gear drops, but this is a better mix of gear sources than before.)

I also noticed that a lot of the new quests are there in part to nudge us into to discovering what has changed in the game. Go and kill high profile targets on patrol, one says. Okay, sure. I'll go kill some level 3 shanks.

Oh wait, it's a level 40 reaver vandal and his level 40 buddies and they're kicking my ass. Oh. And killing them drops 500 glimmer, 400 XP, faction and Vanguard rep. Patrol missions are both more challenging - and fun - and more rewarding than before. Without the quest to point me on that direction, I might not have noticed, because I never run those patrol missions.

Good stuff.
