Karin announced for SFV

Ah, looks like they toned it down some. Looks quite a lot better/more natural now.
I photoshopped that shit, breh. Though on PC we'd probably be able to mod it.

I dunno, after seeing the more natural hair color edits, I appreciate the crazy yellow more.
You are crazy/This is why we can't have nice things
LBR attention direction will be 85% legs anyway

Yeah, I wish they'd gone a bit darker with the hair.

Would have matched this better.

So far all of the "blonde" characters are blonde x 9000. Like they're straight up super saiyan banana yellow. It looks great on Cammy. Not so much on Karin or Ken.
lovely specimen

Karin's motion card is up. The most interesting part is that her bio says that she's the head of the Kanzuki Zaibatsu. For those who don't know, a Zaibatsu is basically the Japanese term for a family-controlled industrial and financial business conglomerates in the Empire of Japan, whose influence and size allowed control over significant parts of the Japanese economy from the Meiji period until the end of World War II. Tekken also has this with the Mishima Zaibatsu, the control of which has changed hands over the course of the franchise (from Heihachi to Kazuya to Jin to whoever has it in Tekken 7). If I recall, control over a Zaibatsu doesn't change hands unless extreme circumstances cause it (which is hella common in the Tekken universe, given the dysfunctional Mishima/Kazama family). This means that, more likely than not, Karin's parents died since the events of Alpha 3. The possibility is further emphasized when Karin said that she was the head of the family as a whole in one of her win quotes. That being said, how Karin's parents died (if they did die) would still be a hanging thread that could impact Karin's role in the Street Fighter V story. Their deaths could have been from either sickness, old age, or murder at the hands of either Shadaloo or the Illuminati. If murder was what happened (which I'm starting to think is the case), then we may have Karin's tie to the potential Shadaloo vs. Illuminati plot of the story. This is why I hope that Siliconera is right. If the Illuminati did it (assuming that Karin's parents were killed, leading to Karin's untimely ascension to power), then Urien's gonna have hell to pay. Either way, if said parents were killed, I'm pretty sure either Bison, Vega, or Urien were the ones who did it. Gill doesn't seem like the type to get his hands dirty unless he has to.

If I remember correctly she took the company from her father.

Omar Dogan draws the best Karin, Sakura, and Ibuki.

I really can't see what's wrong with her visual, not even a "she's not that ugly", I think she looks pretty good. Both in character select and in-game, which is a rarity for this game, it seems.

Except for the hair, it's a bit weird, but whatever.

My personal take is that I think she looks slightly off. I think if they took the hair down a shade or two and brought her eyes back to thier original color she'd be perfect.

Also love the redesigned outfit, can't say enough about how impressed I am by it.

Kah-reen?

And here I was pronouncing it as Karen for 17 years!

A *LOT* of people mispronounced it to be completely fair.

that's a totally valid opinion, but at the same time this game reallys benefits from being seen in person. I know that's kind of a whack thing to say, but it really stood out to me during the beta in a way that it just does not even in HQ 60fps footage

I think both games look great for different reasons. I'd give Xrd the nod overall but that's personal preference for the visual style.

how do we get Capcom to take a look at these pics?

This is serious. We need to start a campaign. Surely it wouldn't require much work on their end to desaturate hair textures?

Edit: anyone else notice how their voices echo in that new stage? Nice little detail there.

He might want brush up on his proportions, that pic looks pretty bad when you notice how out of wack they are.
The proportions bother me as well. Mostly her waistline since it looks like you can snap her in half without really trying. Not as bad as artists like Rob Liefeild drawing women.

Man I really wanna see Karin's and everyone else's alternate costumes. Capcom has been killing it so far with them.

I am really hoping they don't give her the topless and bearded treatment like Ryu.

I'm sure at least someone is into that, but I don't think it fits her image.

I don't really notice. She just has anime proportions, which are deliberately exaggerated.
Those are BTAS Bruce Timm proportions, breh. Trying to shoehorn them on Street Fighters probably won't go so well, especially once you pair them with sausage fingers and Yeti feet/hands.

Skullgirls got it's inspirations from BTAS and old school western female cartoon designs. Parasoul is practically the biggest homage to Jessica Rabbit in video games.

After the announcement I was talking to friends about it who are huge anime nerds and usually correct every trivial/common mispronounciation of Japanese possible (ie, "karate", "samurai", etc.), and their reaction to "Kah-reen" being announced was "Who?" (Followed by "Oh!" after clarification to "Karen".)

So, at least from that small sample group, it seems saying it the wrong way might be the standard here on the West Coast.

It's the same BS as when people realized how to pronounce Ryu after 20 years of saying Rye-U~

Though I do take the stance of saying it however the hell you want, simply because people are not speaking Japanese/using their pronunciation. But that's just me.

I've been saying Rye-U since vanilla SFII on SNES. I'm not stopping now.

Kage, on the other hand, was an easy correction to make.

I'm on the East Coast and i have friends who should be able to pronounce it properly but don't as well. I think the thing is 17 years ago people were less knowledgeable about these things and it's just force of habit from when they learned her name.

Its fine. The announcer is speaking English, not Japanese. He should pronounce it like a native English speaker would.

Not that it matters, but I don't think most native English speakers would arrive at that pronunciation. It sounds like someone tried to describe the Japanese pronunciation in a text exactly once and left the poor announcer VA to his own devices.

How does the announcer say it?

Like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
