Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Are we expecting the starting roster to be 11 males and 5 females? That's going off urien, alex, and the last two newcomers being all that's left. Can't recall the last two newcomers. But it seems only one might be female. Though I guess there's a possibility both might be.

Looks like it. That's the most female characters any vanilla mainline SF has ever had. So it's an improvement.

You only have 1 Super in games that have it. (Even SF3 was "Super Arts") Good chance they'll be introducing multiple CA options later.

I kind of wonder what utility you would gain from having multiple CAs. I mean, it's better than no choice obviously but the damage is so high it isn't like having an anti-air CA, for example, would automatically shut down jumping. That worked a lot better in SF4 when a small mistake could cost you 40% health if your opponent had Ultra.

I'd like it if/when they add CAs they expand the EX bar to give some CAs stocks like in SF3.

Yeah, I hope that's the system we end up with as well.

Two questions.

Do you expect the SF3 kiddy corp (Ibuki, Elena, and Makoto) in SFV and when?

And do you expect a heavily modified design from their SF3/SF4 versions or more akin to their pervious versions?

This system would allow them to play closer to sf3, but I'd expect revamps just like everybody has received.

They're were in the upper half of popularity in that SF popularity poll (I think it's obvious now that the poll is playing a role in who makes it in the game), and it wouldn't surprise me to see those characters take priority in terms of DLC since they're the characters that people will really want. And most of the characters have seen substantial revamps, so I wouldn't expect those characters to be any different.

Ibuki, yes
Makoto, maybe
Elena, no

I think they'd all be slightly modified along the same lines as Bison.

'Inspired by' is completely different to 'located in'. Just because the Forgotten Waterfall is inspired by New Zealand doesn't mean it's located there. I never understood why so many people couldn't understand this.

Well, there's tonnes of New Zealand related wild life in the background, so I think it's a safe bet to say it takes place in New Zealand.

I expect Ibuki and Makoto at some point as DLC. But it really depends on how many characters they do as DLC a year. I'm guessing no more than 6 a year.

That's pretty higher than my expectation. I would guess about 4-6 characters. Yes, I love to set my expectation low as possible.
I'm thinking they're gonna have a couple DLC characters ready to go right at launch, or shortly after, so I think the first year will have a fair amount.

If they truly want this to be a game that has long legs, they'll need to keep the content coming. This is a big experiment for them, and doing it half way won't win them any favors.

that would be painful

I think the amount of characters will be fine, but I'll crave the hype. hopefully they can keep non-character content rolling in steadily, too. alts, music packs, stages, etc.

I find it puzzling we still haven't gotten a release date yet. Based on how fast they're announcing these characters makes me believe they're launching in January. And if they did, I am guessing they will launch 4-6 DLC characters for 2016, and less if the game launched later in the year.

2-3 character leading up to EVO and another 2-3 leading up to Capcom Cup.

January would make the wait a lot more bearable than March.

If they are taking ques from popular F2P games I honestly can see them doing 1 a month or 1 every month and a half. I don't know if they'll give that pace up, but they'll want that money floodgate to open and it is an ok way of keeping people interested in the game.

If every character released comes with story elements/stage/other things I can see them pushing it to 2 months, but at least at release I expect it faster than that.

But when the season starts in March it's going to be hard for players to keep adapting to new balance changes and new character mechanics in a short period of time. The game needs to marinate with the players a bit.

I think it's really funny people are denying Urien because of some extremely vague statement that didn't even rule him out. Most people on here are feeling the crush though, so that's good.

I hope that's true. Stun and damage were my biggest complaints in the beta.

The damage was perfect and the stun was maybe a little high. The game needs much better walkspeed IMO... it troubles me that Capcom refuses to have like, actually good footsies like the old games.

That's true. I didn't think about few downloadable characters might be ready shortly after the release date.

Yeah, they really need to keep the hype ongoing for bigger base to keep playing more and buy more characters.

How many characters per season for Killer Instinct?

I'm not a fan of 0-effort, 30-40% damage combos no one will ever drop, feels like a slightly toned down MvC3, and I really hate MvC3.

Thanks for the totally necessary disparaging comments.

Why not just list your own picks instead of tearing down what someone else likes?

Yes please.
meh, i don't care too much who's in at this point. People just seem to like characters that haven't been in a lot of games, so whatever...

Yeah, I got to grandmaster a few times, won 90% of my matches. I played to a point where I just rather play USF4.

Did you used to play SF3 ? Even then there were simple, but powerful combos that could deplete the opponent's life in an instant. But, they would mostly depend on some error from the opponent: Not using AA, bad read, something like that.

I can't think of a BnB combo that can cause that kind of damage without V-Trigger or Super in it.

Not mechanically, just how easy it is to do big damage.

yeah, I did start to get a little bored with it. Game definitely still feels unfinished.

Not enough for me to go back to USF4 though lol...I have a love/hate relationship with 4. I get in ranked and play a good Sim, Gief, Blanka, and say "this is the best game ever!" Then I play Ibuki, Elf, and a whole 2 hours dominated by the twins and Rufus dive kicks and even after winning my enjoyment is just in the dumpster. If SFV doesn't bring me back in, only something like VF6 will.

Nope, lol. I'll be done with these threads after the next confirmation. That'll be it for me. I don't care about speculation.

The reveal threads have been awful for me with all of the drama surrounding gender politics, character popularity, NEW CHARACTER LOOKS LIKE GARBAGE/LOOKS AWESOME/BANANA HAIR and BS speculation. The game can't come soon enough.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is totally true plus I really just want to play this game.

I wonder if the threads for the flc character reveals are going to be as messy as these ones have been.

most other "esports" have balance changes constantly throughout the year/season. I guess it could be different here, but they aren't going to do everything for the pros.

I didn't really play SF3, but I know what you are talking about, and I wouldn't want this to be like SF3. I'd just like lower damage, what else can I say?

My concern with SFV is it might be a little too basic. I didn't like Focus Attack as a neutral mechanic, but I did like what you could with it during combos, blockstrings and whatnot. V-trigger is cool and all, but it didn't really add much for me.

Man, you would have not liked ST.

I did, and it's whatever to me. Don't hate or love it.

Well , since it seems like people have moved on to talking about DLC , it looks like we've all accepted Urien and Alex are going to get in :P

I'm fine with that , so since some of us have moved on to DLC discussion - I agree that it won't be more than 1 new character a month. I also think Akuma and Whoever the boss is are going to be in the game like always but you will only be able to fight them. Pretty easy choice to make them the first 2 DLC characters that way they could throw in the boss in March and have Akuma in May, take June off and then reveal a character each at comic-con, E3 and EVO , these characters would then come out in August, September and October. At next years TGS they could unveil a fourth edition that would make it out in early November. The game would then be locked in that state for Capcom Cup 2016 and upon the conclusion of the final match, a teaser for the 2017 lineup would be revealed. I could see another 8 characters coming that year January, February, March, April and then May/June/July is a mid season break followed by August, September, October, November.

Alternatively , Capcom could release a full package of 4 characters with maybe a stage and some alt outfits all at once so you can piecemeal it out with fight money (I predict 100,000 FM per character and maybe 50,000 FM for a new stage) or you just spend 19.99 to buy it all in zenny up front. During those off season months they could release cosmetic DLC that wouldn't change the game at all.

So to recap - 16 characters at launch, 18 total by EVO and 22 total by the end of 2016. 30 total with a couple new backgrounds by the end of 2017. Honestly, given the games status as a platform, they could conceivably catch up to the roster size of Ultra SF4 by the end of 2019. There will be a few characters I don't think we'll ever get back because they're redundant in a way but I look forward to seeing most of the old guard in SFV form.

What do you think of Rashid?

I did, and it's whatever to me. Don't hate or love it.

My point is that ST was very much a game where you did huge damage off of one hits, short combos and throws like SFV was shaping up to be before the damage nerfs in the current build.

I don't know, I'm just scratching my head on how you can compare SFV to Marvel just on damage potential alone.

I think I learned more street fighter from cross tekken then sf4. I'm glad sf5 is taking more from cross tekken and other street fighters that aren't 4. The beta solidified what I wanted in a street fighter game even if it was just the first early beta.

ST wasn't the first thing to come to mind when I thought of easy big damage, that's the only reason. Either way, I don't really feel like arguing about it since this is a roster thread. All I'm saying is I'm glad if they lowered damage since I didn't like how high it was, and that's it.

Especially since SF4 is the ultimate "30-40% damage combo that nobody will ever drop" Street Fighter game.

Execution is easy, but zero effort is hilarious. You do need to open your opponents up, afterall, to be able to hit them with combos.

I loved the damage. Only thing I would have changed is super damage scaling when canceled from a special.
