Also weird that Ant Man is in between infinity wars. Almost lowers the stakes already, if anyone gets what I mean? Like, there's no way he can be in that much trouble (unless the first is entirely set up)

The first movie is going to be the classic team we know and love getting fucking destroyed by Thanos. The second movie will be the New New Avengers like BP, Ant-Man/Wasp, Strange, Captain Marvel teaming up, with the GOTG coming to lend a hand

Good news about the sequel, but shame that Marvel had to push Captain Marvel back for a second time. Diversity remains their weakness.

That's an entirely different situation. They struck a deal with Sony, and then moved the Earth to accommodate a Spiderman film (ie. pushing everything back, including Black Panther) for a quick turnaround by 2017.

oh shit, i actually thought spider-man was releasing later than it was. I didn't realize he was getting a solo film before BP.

This doesn't really bother me. It seems to bother a lot of people. Just give me a well done movie, that's all I care about. I don't need main people to be dying for it to be good. We all know Thanos is killing people though.

It's going to keep happening because Marvel doesn't want to devote their entire first films to introductions and origin stories. It's a part of the benefit of the MCU, they can introduce characters and build up their popularity before the solo film.

It's happening with BP and Spidey and its gonna happen with Captain Marvel and various others.

It's probably going to be a sizable piece too. Like Scarlet Witch and Vision in Avengers. They aren't getting a lead status, but they'll have a good amount of screen time for sure. So by the time the BP films comes out. His character will be well established and probably mentioned in another film in between. Mrs. Marvel will have the same happen, most likely mentioned in one of the upcoming films(possible cameo), then a supporting role in Infinity War part 1

Still surprised about Ant Man getting its sequel so fast. For the worst performing film of Phase 2 by quite a bit and only topping the first CA and Hulk. But it did show strong legs, so they could be hoping to develop a FA to WS jump for it. Or trying to get him more establish before Evans and Downey Jr bail.

The difficulties came from people who no longer are working with the marvel films. It's just Feige now as opposed to a committee of note makers.

The situation has changed since then

Personally (And feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong) I feel that Wright left the project because Marvel asked him to include the
Falcon Fight
into the movie and didn't like someone dictating what he could and could not do. And I feel like something like that would be what Feige would want anyway.

Also I think Wright isn't cut out for things like this. Known of his movies have sequel and the Cornetto trilogy are three independent movies that don't even share the same universe (I love the Cornetto trilogy btw). Point is Edgar Wright probably doesn't even want to do with it again because he doesn't want to middle managed which isn't a bad thing, just not the personality you want to take into with a series like this. I'd prefer for him to continue doing his own thing.

Didn't think Ant-Man had made enough money for a sequel to be considered, but good on them. Ant-Man was a fun romp.

Also cool at Black Panther premiering during Black History Month. Hopefully it's not being sent to die or anything (can't remember the last movie that made 200+ million nationwide during February).

I wasn't hyped for it at all and have yet to see it.

I thought the trailer was good though.

it's pretty damn forgettable. there's 2 awesome action sequences though and also michael douglas was really good casting.

i imagine if wright stayed on it would have been the GOAT. as it stands though for being such a troubled production it's watchable which is more than i expected but its certainly not good imo. but there's some novel ideas in there with the use of his size.

It definitely wasn't the
Falcon fight
- that was the idea of McKay and Peyton Reed, if I remember rightly.

To be honest, the more I hear about Wright's script, the happier I am he left, given that it allegedly didn't feature Wasp at all. Plus it means he can do his own thing.

I guess there's no chance of Edgar Wright directing the sequel, is there?

I'm surprised they greenlit Ant-Man 2 considering the mixed critical response and the fact it didn't exactly set the box office on fire.

I wouldn't call 80% RT rating a mixed critical response.

Compared to Cap 1, which got a sequel, this movie had a higher RT rating, higher box office numbers (both domestically and worldwide), and a lower budget. A sequel was a no brainer.

I haven't heard much about Wright's script but that's said if it's true it didn't feature wasp at al. And yeah I have to agree Wright is better off doing his own thing.

Yeah, I feel pretty similar to this. Stoll, Douglas and Rudd did the best with what they had, there was a good joke with Michael Pena and one or two class action scenes.

Most of the film felt too shaggy, like it was in dire need of speeding up/Edgar Wright uber editing.

Will always wonder what could have been with Ant-Man.

While I do still want my Female-led MCU movie... the MCU overall has actually been doing pretty good with female characters overall. In Shield you have Skye, Simmons, May, and Mockingbird, then you got the female-led Agent Carter, and soon we will have the Netflix show, Jessica Jones, which is female led. So yeah, still want my movie, but I think the MCU has been building up quite a good list of good female characters. :)

The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and Daredevil are "spinning their wheels"?

The best stuff in Phase 2 blows the best stuff in Phase 1 out of the water.

Huh?

He has a major part in Civil War and his solo movie is two years after that.

"spinning its wheels"

Iron Man cures his health problems, SHIELD falls and The Winter Soldier is freed from Hydra, The Falcon teams up with Captain America, The Guardians of the Galaxy are formed, Loki usurps the throne of Asgard, The Scarlet Witch is created, Ultron almost destroys the planet, The Vision is born, Iron Man retires from The Avengers and The New Avengers are formed, and Thanos prepares to personally collect the Infinity Stones. The Hulk goes into hiding. Ant-Man goes public and The Wasp is given her suit. The Kree are discovered by SHIELD and new Inhumans are being born all over the planet. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen begins taking action.

This all happened in Phase 2.

"Spinning its wheels" my ass.
After Avengers 1 they haven't been able to escalate the tension. It's always some forgettable, undeveloped villain who is threatening to destroy the Earth, or galaxy or dimension with a tease for the next film which seems to get more discussion than the movie itself.

Holy crap..I forgot that with this news we'll have to start dealing with the scariest name to clog up a thread. Edgar Wright..it's already happening..

Marvel still trying to figure out how the hell they're gonna make a movie with Carol.

You would think the introduction would be easy. The kree are already introduced. Bring in moonstone, have monica be her rhodey if need be. Have the vells there for the future.

I was sort of hoping for Gi/Ant-Man or something like that, but I'm just as happy to see Wasp in the title. Sucks to see Captain Marvel pushed back, though.

*smacks forehead*

It's fun when movies are reviewed based on behind-the-scenes information that the average audience couldn't care less or wouldn't know about.

"Troubled production" surprisingly lead to a "watchable" Ant Man. Sheesh.

The character deserves it more than Captain Marvel.
Why do you hate Captain Marvel so much Slayven?

After Ant-Man doing better than what they expected I guess they said shit, we need another one. I think they had too many in the slot currently to fit it in, but they're more experienced people than me. They should know what they're doing.. At first I thought these 3 2020 films were both Avengers 3 and Inhumans, but the article make it sounds like completely new projects.

Jesus. I think I'll be dead before Captain Marvel releases.

For god's sake, I hope she's in a substantial role prior to the solo film and Infinity Wars Part 2 which are just 55 days apart from release!

I love these movies probably a lot more than the next guy, and maybe it was just the so-so nature of Age of Ultron, but I'm already starting to feel the fatigue. These movies started before my freshman year of high school, and now I'm a freshman in college. You're trying to tell me that there will be more after I graduate from college, and I'm expected to still care? I don't care so much about the shifting, but the fact that they're announcing more after Infinity War Part 2 puts a bad taste in my mouth. They need to take a break for 5 or 10 years, and then come back. That would be huge. Instead, they'll keep making more and more expensive movies that make a little bit less each time, and we'll end up with some of these cancelled and an unfulfilled story. I just wish the MCU could go out in a blaze of glory rather than fade away.

Captain Marvel needs as much time in the cooker as they can give it. Carol is a fairly bad character without any good storylines or villains, so for that movie to have a chance of being good it's going to need an Iron Man style reinvention of the property.

I agree on every point. The comic character is abysmal in virtually every way imaginable. The Captain Marvel character has a legit chance of being good with some MCU tweeking. I'm excited about the movie just to see the improvements.

Im still advocating for it to be a twist and it's actually a Moonstone movie where she masquerades as Captain Marvel.

I just don't like false idols when there are superior examples.

They make a Karla Sotfen movie? Brah my pants would be of no use.
