So... how was Utley still safe after not touching the bag and running off the field?
because he was ruled out at first. then on the replay they ruled him safe. although I don't know what play they saw because the replay shows he didn't touch the bag. and although I think it's borderline, I don't think Utley's play was with intent (to hurt)

He was called out because he slammed into our starting fucking SS instead of going for the base then walked off like a fucking asshole. We didn't even get a chance to see if Tejada's glove touched him, I'm positive it did.

Yeah, that's what I still don't get. He NEVER touched second base. If he did, then yeah, I can agree with the safe call. But he didn't and then ran off the field. (Which I always thought was conceding the out call but apparently not!)

You're right. Any fans would. Doesn't make it right. Utleys slide was either illegal or insanely dirty and the ump missed the call.

The problem with this is, in the majority of cases, a runner will slide and actually touch the base. So you can review it and find "ok, he was safe."
But he didn't touch the base here, so the Mets could have tagged him or the base if the ump didn't make the out call. You have to go with the original call in that situation (safe or out, no matter who it favors).
