Is Codsworth a good companion? I love him - love Dogmeat too though. Hate that they fixed it so you can't have Dogmeat and another companion like in Fallout 3.

Bethesda is still great at telling stories with the world/ruin design. They do a good job at leaving a striking impression of stuff that was happening right as the world went to shit. Just started exploring and found an area in the southwesternish part of the map called
Boston Mayoral Shelter
and listening to the Audio Logs and intuiting what happened based on where you find things inside was very cool.

Just got back home, started up my game on Xbox one, hit any button to bring up the menu, and it's just hanging with the loading in the bottom right hand corner.

I've had this issue a couple times, too. You have to go to 'quit' when you're leaving the game... if you do a quicksave, then power off your console (and leave it in active mode), I'm pretty sure it won't load correctly when you start playing again. You can also do a hard power off (hold down the power button) when you're done playing... it'll take longer to start up when you play again, but you shouldn't get stuck in the loading screen at the intro.

LAME.

Also... I completely forgot about loading up Dogmeat like a Pack Mule when I first started playing... I was weighed down constantly. He's now holding about 300 lbs of crap that I can't bring myself to drop.

If you hoard in these games (we all do), load him up with dupes, materials, etc., just in case you forgot.

I'm so happy one of your companions can unlock terminals for you... I suck so bad at those to the point where I just randomly press words until it works.

Too far away?

The generator is next to it so I dunno. Tried moving it to another place to and still not having it. Ah well.

I just put wire fences all round Sanctuary, but I accidentally put the gate ones down as they were the only thing that fit and I didn't read properly... superb defense a gate makes. I went around and scrapped them all and put up wooden junk barriers everywhere instead. I'll sit in the corner with my dunce hat now.

This game is ridiculously hard even on the lower levels. I'm getting destroyed

Yep...I've started hitting a bit of a brick wall of difficulty as well. I almost feel like I want to start again with a new build as I neglected putting points in the crafting perks early on and now I am just getting my ass handed to me in the major city areas (Those damn super mutants!)

As I didn't dump points into crafting, I cannot mod my armor and having alot of problems finding good weapons. Even grinding areas I have already been isnt working for me now either, as I dont appear to be gaining XP as the mobs are too low level.

I encountered a Deathclaw at level 3 by the Museum of Freedom. I killed it and jumped 2 levels.

Tips for Fallout.

1) SAVE!
2) Upgrade your guns and armour wherever possible
3) SAVE AGAIN!
4) V.A.T.S is your friend.
5) You think you're Saving enough? WRONG.

Anyone know how to take off mods a gun

It was explained a few pages back.

>Go to the crafting weapons table
>Select the lowest form of the mod (which should be the vanilla setup, top option)
>That will free up the mod you had equipped.
>Equip it on to another weapon.

I'm doing the first combat mission after arriving at Diamond City and I'm being cut to pieces. Is there a way to heal without going into the pip boy each time? Should I have armour and better guns by now? I'm thinking I might leave this til later.

You can fav a stimpak or whatever healing item.

When I'm getting fucked up in these games though.. i load up Pip Boy, pop a couple of stimpacks and do a bunch of drugs.

I'm a little freaked out by how stable this game is. After 15 or so hours, the only consistent bugs I've been getting are disappearing guns (which are fixed by zooming out the camera). I've got no crashes, no massive graphical glitches, and none of the general BGS bullshit.

Bethesda really learned a lot from Skyrim. Well done, guys.

Might seem like a dumb question...but if I craft, say a lockbox in sanctuary, I'm free to store stuff there and it won't disappear?

Yes.

If you're on console, pressing down on the dpad should already lead you straight to the mapped stimpacks. You can map anything you want to the dpad by pressing R1/RB on an item in your inventory, up to 3 things per direction on the dpad.

Pretty sure you just mod it again but pick the "default" option for the part you want to remove. I.e revert to the first gun stock to remove the stock you modded in.

Thanks!

Codsworth is awesome. He slices and dices Botflies without me asking him to. Which is awesome since they are pesky to fight with the baton. I have guns but I figure I should save them for harder enemies and I'm trying to keep my HP stays intact. Curse my OCD.

I see, I can find Dogmeat later. Good thing too. Now I have upgraded guns I haven't used in case I encounter nasty surprises.

I have found V.A.T.S. to not be that great, the enemies are more mobile and less "frozen" while in V.A.T.S. Spray and pray is the way.

So, how exactly do you dismiss or just leave Dogmeat in Sanctuary so you can use the Lone Wanderer perk? I'm really not sure I like having companions at all.

Anyone playing with custom rules atm? I'm currently self-imposing a no-SPECIAL improvements via level ups.

Also, anyone have anything to explain how power lines work in this game for your towns? Can't seem to get my stuff powered right now, even after creating power stations (won't let me drag lines to stuff I want to power).

at the mission "shadow of steel" after entering the vertibird the game crashes to desktop everytime. doesnt matter what i do. i even installed older nvidia drivers. no luck! come on Bethesda, fix your game.

I was doing 'no fast travel', but goddamn if I don't sometimes need it to offload some gear. The loot overload in this game is ridiculous.

I tend not to follow my compass while going for objectives, instead sticking to roads and seeing how it goes from there. Only when I'm in a suit of Power Armor and it makes sense to take the most energy efficient route will I actually follow my quest markers. :lol

So I'm assuming the person you set to do the supply line between settlements can die and thus stop your supply line? After I told one to start a supply line between two settlements I followed him and they seem to travel between them to keep it alive, if he gets attacked and killed, I'm assuming it'll end and I need a replacement? Anyone know?

I didn't actually realize they physically moved between them. I assume they can get killed then. You can check your trade routes on the pup boy. Is the trade route still there?

Also, does it matter how you connect your settlements? Can I have all of them connected directly to a single base, or do I want more of a continuous line?

Quoting myself for others to see context. Okay I just semi-confirmed that if they die the supply route disappears and you need a new settler and to assign them to do that supply line again. In Sanctuary I assigned a settler to do a supply line to another settlement. He then became the name "Provisioner". I followed him as he left Sanctuary and he went all the way to the other settlement. He didn't go 100% the way there, but I'd say 95%, then he turned back. I quickly went there to build and could use materials I had at Sanctuary.

I then proceeded to shoot him and kill him, I didn't get any notification that my supply line was dead/removed. I open the map, press C to view supply line and it was gone. I then now checked to see if I could build something with materials from sanctuary and I couldn't any more. So killing the supply line settler did end the supply line. I'm not sure if it's because I killed him that's why I say it's semi-confirmed, can only confirm 100% if I am not following him and he is killed by another AI. While we were travelling we did get attacked though but it was by 1 boat fly and Codsworth and him killed it. I'm assuming if they die via AI you may get a notification that your supply line was disrupted or whatever.

Also, I'm not entirely sure how supply lines now work. I thought it also shared your total inventory? I could not access weapons I stored at sanctuary, I was only able to build new things at the settlement I set a supply line to with materials from sanctuary. Is it even possible to share that total inventory? Do I need to build stores like Trader for that or? No idea. This is very interesting though.

Yeah, in a Fallout game no fast-travel is just a bad time. Even in the pen and paper fast travel basically happens by just telling the DM you want to go somewhere. I've never quite understood that imposition.

I'm liking this game more than I thought I would. I went in not knowing anything, so I didn't expect the scavenging/crafting/building/settlements systems to be so expansive.

Talk to him and "dismiss." It'll give you areas to send him to. I sent his ass to the garage as soon as I could. My real-life dog whines all the time too and I only tolerate it because I love the bastard. No way I'm listening to a virtual pet do that.

Mini nukes lobbed at me from a block away is frickin BS.

Also Codsworth is a murder machine. He keeps the enemies off me and cuts them to pieces.

Btw I am playing on Hard and not seen any legendary stuff, what gives?

So is there a solid idea of what drains the fusion cores while in a suit of power armour? Does it only drain if you move normally? Will actions like jumping from ledges or doing melee attacks drain it even faster than normal? If I stand still will it still drain?

Really curious because Fusion Cores aren't growing on trees.

He's one of my favorite characters so far. I love how receptive he is to you poking fun at him with sarcastic responses.

I was fine with him until I noticed that haha. Not done any sarcastic responses yet, not sure why as I normally would. Maybe on another playthrough, but stuck at the moment because on a particular quest after joining them:
It tells me to board the vertibird to go to a fort I think? But it just flies down to the airport, and when I board that it goes back? Not sure what I am doing wrong if anything :\ I'm assuming boarding it should take me to the fort, but it's not. Unless I board it and walk there, but the icon points back to the vertibird.

Does it make sense to spec big guns but not explosives? What are my options for big guns that don't cause explosions (rocket launcher, fat man etc). I only know of the Minigun so far.

Hmm, I have like 25 of them right now and I never really went out of my way to find or buy them.

I think basically just being in the suit slowly drains it over time. I don't think any particular action makes it drain more or less.

It's my first fallout since 1 and am pretty sure I did shit on my build lol. But there is so many things to put point in.

Also I don't like meeting new people and not be able to recruit them or fail at negotiating with them.

Yes.

-No reloading saves. Whatever happens happens and I have to keep going forward no matter how things turn out, unless I die. Obviously this makes me quicksave quite often but I'm really liking it.
-I must unlock every Luck perk before I can put points into anything else. I must unlock all tiers of Idiot Savant, Mysterious Stranger and Ricochet as soon as they become available.
-Dogmeat only

I'm also very attached to my classy Gas Mask/Clean Black Suit ensemble, and would like to try to stick to it through as much of the game as possible. I already die in two or three hits to most things and I'm still able to make progress, so we'll see. If I encounter an area that is just an absolute no-go, I can always come back with the ol' Power Armor.
