I think the entrance to Fort Hagen is broken for me. Without going into spoiler detail, the front door is blocked and you can't go that way, so you have to enter through a door on the roof. I got to this door, it's the only one on the roof.

I get no open prompt on it. I'm playing on PC, any ideas I can use to fix this?

There is a trap/cellar looking door on the roof kind of looking toward the blood clinic

So if I don't build my settlements at all, is my shit safe? I'm keeping a bunch of stuff in a cabinet in Red Rocket. Can raiders steal it?

So instead of buying Fallout 4, I have decided to boot up New Vegas instead, which I haven't spend that many hours in. Anyway, are Fallout 3 and New Vegas connected in any way? Are the stories a focus and interesting in these games?

^ Not really connected at all. And yes, story, quests and dialogues are great in NV (in FO3, not so much).

Holy flying fuckballs. WAT.

How do you even get people to come to your settlement? I need more farmers at sanctuary, dammit.

You'll need the transmitter beacon (under misc section in electricity iirc) - it'll invite one person a day to your settlement. Think it's only one per settlement, but you can always have them in your other settlements and then just move the new arrivals to where they're needed.

You'll at the very least want to make sure you have some good defenses around Red Rocket. Everytime I went there I got ambushed by super mutants. :p

It's just that everytime i play one of these games i always get the urge to move the plot, it's a bad habit that i kinda wanted to leave behind with fallout 4. Also i should really learn how to upload screenshots and videos from the PS4, a couple of cools things have happened to me and i wanted to share.

Damn that's so fucking cool, i have only managed to make a hobo house made of wood with a bunch of beds inside.

You just press the share button. And then square to save the past 15 minutes to your hdd or press triangle to save the screenshot. Every time you press share the 15minute auto record resets. From there you go to your saved vids and pics and you can host them up to a bunch of different outlets like youtube Twitter dailymotion etc.

I don't see why you can't, it's the same building system with the same building props/materials. You definitely should be able to!

Yeah exactly, you should have no problem building that on consoles....

Sidenote: I've noticed very few glitches/bugs/framerate dips when playing on PS4. I know some people have, but mine has been running fine.

That's technically the exit, you won't be getting in through there.

Kinda regretting going with a 1 in luck. I'm going to have to waste so many levels pumping points into it to get to the good perks. Are the bobble heads the only ways to get free special points? Are there more books like the one in the beginning?

Same i put 1 in luck and endurance, but the luck skills look pretty good

Quick question. Do you always get XP when your companion kills an enemy? Sometimes I don't see the XP notification on the top left screen when either dog meat or Cogsworth kill someone/something.

You need to do some portion of damage to it yourself in order to get xp.

New Vegas isn't connected to either 3 or 4. It's a standalone story really and definitely the best written.

i wonder if i'm playing this game wrong by going straight to
diamond city
i haven't really explored much and i did like two sidequests, maybe this why i haven't found any decent armor D: There's just something about the gravity of the main quest that pulls me in hard.
I'm currently doing the same thing on purpose. I was spoiled and then I ended up looking up some stuff from other people who got spoiled and then spoiled myself further so I'm currently just progressing the main story until I beat it so I can see this shit play out with my own eyes and get the nagging feeling out of my head.

I don't typically play Bethesda games for their main plot but this one seems to kinda put it front and center with the voiced protagonist and the kinda time sensitive feeling the whole plot has. Finding my son kinda seems urgent and more important than building a cot for some old woman, so with the spoilers in my head bothering me and the way the pacing seems kinda weird I'm just beelining the main quest right now. It may not be the ideal way most others play this game but the first thing I'm going to do after I finish that is make a new guy with a more thought out build and just flip the wasteland completely inside out and do everything I'm currently skipping, including the time consuming settlement stuff. This approach has calmed me about being spoiled and my obsession with digging into them.

Also I guess I can maybe thank the spoilers in a way, in most Bethesda games I barely progress the main plot until like 50 hours in where I end up saying to myself "I guess I should do that", which likely would have happened here had I not been given the urge to just see it with my own eyes, and I'm actually enjoying myself still despite knowing the outcomes. Nick Valentine is an awesome character.

So for the first time in my Bethesda life I'm focusing the main story first and front and center and then going back and doing what I would usually do.

Thanks! that clears a few things.

No connection except some very minor things if i remember correctly. New Vegas is a great game just remember to keep away from the Cazadores ;)

Good to know. I've heard some people say you can ignore the settlement stuff completely but I don't want my stuff to get stolen. Also seems like a pretty good income source for various things...

There are some pretty bad glitches. You can ask dogmeat to fetch items in locked cases. You can also walk through walls as long as there is a couch or chair on the other side. Just hit the E key to sit and you will clip through the wall. I bypassed chained doors this way haha.

Ran into a giant group of Ghouls, they were about to wreckmy shit when suddenly a huge explosion wrecks them all. A raider wearing armor is ontop of the roof with a fatman. Saved my life.

hah, remember the
quarry
very early on where you did a little sidequest to
turn on some pumps in the water
?

you might want to go back there later :p

is the % based on the entire game world of just that area?

It's hard for me to say since I've been focusing on sanctuary. I don't see why it would matter though. The game is open world but no two settlements are close enough as to where the game would have to render all the custom built assets at the same time.

I haven't even been to Diamond City yet, but it's probably not a bad idea. I imagine it's the main source of quests in the game, so you might as well load up on quests before striking out. The way I'm doing it, I'm encountering random places and clearing them out, but I'll no doubt have to return to them later when quests get attached to them.

every single quest I take on is too damn difficult

i'm running out of ammo all the time

every cave or building or whatever is fine until the final battle when it just becomes impossible

how am i supposed to level up and get new weapons and stuff when all the quests are too difficult?

i don't want to drop from normal difficulty because it feels like giving up.

I chose the red rocket settlement near vault 111 as my main one and i highly regret it, mainly because terrain is uneven and there's little place to build shit because the gas station itself you can't fix/add doors to.

I don't think I'll ever really bother with settlements until I at least have the local leader perk.

I wasn't feeling the game early, but I'm all addicted to it now, just like the other Fallout games. :) I do want to say having the local leader perk at 6 charisma SUCKS. Tempted to look up the info to give myself the perk through the console.

Explosives are your friend... Mines and sniper fire are a dangerous combo!

From this vantage point, if you turn right, there is a door on the floor on the next building(small gap between buildings)

The companion likes/dislikes seem all over the place. Strong praised me for swiping shit and said something like "ME LIKE HUMAN, HUMAN TAKE WHAT WANT" yet the game told me he "hated" that. And then I talked to him and he gave me a little talk about how he's learned to respect me. Make up your damn mind, mutie!

i got a bad bug in the
retrieve the transmitter for the brotherhood quest
i was playing an audiolog when i died and when i loaded i couldn't use the terminals to unlock a door, reloading the save fixed the issue but it kinda sucked. Also there was a weird graphical glitch when i was looking across a river at night, it appeared like there was some sort of grid in the distance, i wonder if that was an object that didn't load.

minutemen quests from preston are starting to repeat, sending me to settlements I already discovered. meh my OCD cant handle this, same shit as the brotherhood of steel quests, I need to just ignore them

Best advice I can give is that the chems are there to help you. Also consider other companions if you currently have the dog. The dog is great once you're doing decent damage or are ranged.

For example I'm a melee character so having the dog is near useless because the attack dog perk is largely to help ranged characters. So I now have a human companion all the time to provide ranged support for my melee/stealth character.
