How much of a difference does the black widow perk make? I've got 4 charisma and I'm still failing all these yellow charisma checks.

Hard to tell. It's not a set amount of charisma you need to have to pass a check, but your amount of charisma dictates the percent chance of you passing the check. You can save mid-convo and cheese it if you really want to. The fun in Black Widow (at least in the previous games) will be in the alternative dialogue options it may give you rather than another means of passing the same speech check through regular means.

You need Local Leader 2 to have access to small / medium "Clothing, Weapon, Armor, Bar and Food"-shops. For the biggest stores (not sure of that actually changes anything gameplay-wise), you need to have Collector 2 ON TOP. To have access to the Doctor-shop, you need Medic 1 ON TOP (but not collector 2).

Ahh thanks.

Sanctuary is the new Hinterlands

I put 4 turrets, I'm better than you at least. :P
Yeah, the settlement is just overwhelming for me. It's a nice addition for those who love that kind of stuff though.

I mean.... last night I was going crazy trying to snap things on building a two floor house since the whole thing is so goddamn finicky (before I learned that you should put down your floor first so it can snap nicely on corners)... but wholeeey crap these things are on a whole different galaxies.

How many materials required to build stuff like those? O_o Mind-boggling.

I don't think I will bother, lol.

fallout controller someone on reddit has max luck damn...

So the [Quest Spoilers]
Show No Mercy Brotherhood of Steel quest is bugged for me. It keeps telling me to board the vertibird at either Prydwyn or Boston Airport
.

I could go back a save but that was like 30 minutes of game time and i dont wanna do the beginning of that all again :\

I just spent about 5 hours working on my first house in Sanctuary.

I'm really happy with how it turned out! I also like that you can use the workshop mode to place stuff like bottles. Gonna waste even more time decorating!

Best moment so far after ~25 hours:

Had goosebumps when the BoS Airship flew by the fort, it was night, they had their searchligts turned on, illuminating everything, speakers blasting me away wth their message, the helicopters flying out... that was REALLY great! Did not expect something like that

Do you have any idea how I can "close off" something like the premade hangar parts? There seems to be not a single wall that fits on those round parts of the wall. So if I place a normal wall onto the hangar piece there is always a hole left.

oh, well that's annoying.
It makes it so you can stay under water. There are other perks to help with radiation.

Fought my first Behemoth and boy did it kick my ass. Also the artillery help rocks when you're in range and you get a good spot in. I also didn't know you can pick up random dogs as companions. I found a hurt feral dog and it let me name him Sparky. I think he's lost now because the dialogue glitched and he followed me still but then went away.

One question, is it possible to throw frags in VATS? I know the final rank of demolition let's them do double damage but I dont know how to do it. Is my AP too low? I don't have much AG in my build.

So it's still a percentage chance except you can't see it anymore. Fair enough. I've got a low charisma build so I thought I'd get it to compensate. I can get to 5 now if I put on the suit and trillby hat. Cheese it is

I use the wooden "end wall" piece I think it's called. It doesn't snap and is pretty forgiving in placement. It's about half the size of the normal wall too which allows you to make doorways that look decent.

Snuck into a gun store and stole a gas mask, the owner obviously saw it and came to take it back, as the owner was returning to his position i stole a Gauss Rifle unnoticed, lol.

I don't think i was supposed to get the gun this early in the game though, don't think there's any way to get any ammo for it at this point, not even the store owner sells it :(

Feeling so OP right now, having an easy time mowing everything down with my recently gotten Assault Rifle and fully upgraded Combat Shotgun in close quarters.

I loved that quest.

I stuck with Dan and eliminated the scientist and her crones. I actually managed to talk her main lackey into letting me in, which led to around a dozen guards (who all sound like Garrus Vakarian of course) questioning his logic. Then we fought our way out and I let the girl go. Synth or not, whatev. Returned to Covenant and everyone was hostile. It's a ghost town now.
Garrus' voice actor, Brandon Keener, is definitely in the game. I've also heard his voice over in a Quarry location where he plays a character called Sully (I think?), near the upper left of the map by Sanctuary.

It makes it so you can stay under water. There are other perks to help with radiation.
My problem is that they add a perk to make it so you can swim in the few bodies of water in the game, and then they go and add extra radiation not covered by the perk in one lake. Makes the perk less valuable.

Bleh, I thought that I missed something. Wood on Steel will look shitty :-(

Thank you anyway, will check that one out later.

Had a coworker hype me for this, so I jumped in to see what all the fuss is about. Two hours later, I have conquered the character creator
and a few technical issues
.

So I just found two identical NPCs named "Art" in a battle to the death in the middle of Boston.

I'm not sure if this is an amazing glitch or some kind of sidequest I missed.

Is there anything beside leather, metal and combat armor? Combat armor looks so fugly and I'm getting sick of it. Been wearing it and metal for 30 hours now or so. I look like a tool:
Everything is legendary stuff, but c'mon... they did a really bad job with the armor designs.

I've built up a whole house in my red rocket settlement. Took the advice of a GAFer who told me to find a position to put some stairs to climb up the roof. I built a decently sized two story house there.

So yeah two questions:

1. I've put my generators with their connectors near equipment that requires it. Overall it works but I have two lamps that don't seem to work for something. They're connected and near their own connector thing. Is it because I need more generators to power those last two lamps? (I have it powering like a couple of things up there).

2. One of my companions that is in the settlement I cannot command to do things. It's my character's wife, I'm trying to command her to make one of the upstairs bed her assigned one, but I just can't select her whatsoever. She seems to be giving dialogue like if she was still following me but I have another companion at the moment. Is this a glitch or something the game does?

Playing this build and loving it. Took out an entire raider camp from a bridge about a mile away, then just waltz in there and took all there loot and a power suit

Any chance you could give some pointers on what stats / perks are good for the stealth sniper build? I've been playing with a similar build but have been really struggling at times.

It's a sidequest

When I encountered the two one had the other at gunpoint, claiming he is a synth and wanted to kill him and take over his life, I could decide which one to side with

I found them far away from Boston. It's not a quest but it is an encounter:

You happen on them and one is about to kill the other. Both accuse each other of being a Synth. You can try to intercede.

You're missing something ;) or at least you did lol

Ah! I reloaded and noticed that one drops a
synth component
. Is there more to this particular event or is it just an allusion to how the
Institute is replacing humans with identical synths
?

Ah, never mind, looks like I just missed the beginning of this encounter. Pretty cool to see though.

I feel like im overwhelmed with everything in this game, Im level 8 and feels like I still have no bloody idea what im doing.

What's the point of settlements are the worth the investment? Do they give money\supplies as time goes by?

What Perks are best to level up first.

Basically im looking for advice for whats like the main things to do when your a couple of hours in, things are constantly kicking my ass and im just running around like a headless chicken.

Diamond City Blues is an awesome quest so far and I can't believe that it's seemingly tied behind a charisma check. Does the quest just end if you let the bartender get shot?

Yeah, you can use Charisma to try and disarm the situation
but then the dude on his knees pulls a gun on you and you get into a gunfight anyway. The one who pulled the gun on me exploded into a bloody, fleshy mess, but I don't think I found the body for the other one...
