Detection is absolutely the biggest problem I'm having with the game so far.

I'm being shot at: Piper: "I think I hear something..."

I'm shooting at enemies: Raider the next room over: "Must have been nothin"

I turn a corner in power armor and am standing right next to a gunner. I back up, and not even a detected. Totally hidden.

Every human is deaf and blind in the Commonwealth.

There would be no reason to not use the power armor except it makes it slightly harder to sneak if it didn't require power.

Plus there's tons of fusion cores. I am in power armor 100% of the time in the field and have 5 stocked up.

Did you continue with the main quest or did you do a bunch of side missions?

I just want to do a few side missions and use the power armor the entire time. Are they easy to find doing side missions?

lol @ allowing us to paint the Green Monster into Blue

Yankees/Red Sox rivalry still going on in the Wasteland, I see

The whole fusion core thing takes away from the fun of a power armor. You can't explore in it which sucks.

I thought so too but ~20 hours later and I have 18 cores and am casually strolling through the Glowing Sea :)
Just keep an eye out for the fusion core stations

Just ran into Cait but can't take her with me, will she stay in the
Combat Zone?

Also can I do multiple romances in one playthrough? Can I create one giant harem for my Wastelander?

Only just realised that damn bobblehead stand is in the build menu....I was looking around for that thing everywhere lol

Theres also a magazine holder in there for all those mags you pick up

Here's something I learned. If you have a water purifier in your settlement, water will be deposited automatically in your workshop. But, you won't get anymore until you completely remove all the water from the workshop. You'll come back later to find more.

Might just be me so far, but I'm only 8 hours in so far and have stuck mostly to the main quest line, but this is really hard in places =/

The fight with
all of sheer amount of synths in fort hagen before confronting kellogg was tough!

I'm slightly disappointed with the song selection. There seems to be too many from past games and not enough new selections.

Can anyone tell me what the points of no return are for the factions?

I'll spoiler tag this just in case. I don't know if anyone will actually think of these as spoilers, but hey.

The Institute: Mankind Redefined
Brotherhood: Semper Invicta
Railroad: Underground Undercover
Minutemen: Old Guns

Going past those quests will trigger faction hostility.

I'm side-missioning at the moment. I killed a super mutant and it was either he had 2 fusion cores on him or they were in the trunk next to him. I was like "Neat."

Another time I stepped into one of the buildings downtown and a fusion generator with a core was just sitting there. So yeah, they're pretty easy to find.

I swear as good as the gameplay is I feel like just going back to play New Vegas or at least wait like 6 months for mods to fix everything. I wasn't prepared for just how bad the dialogue and writing turned out to be.

the lack of dialog choices tied to skills, factions, reputation -- fucking anything other than charisma -- is a travesty

I mean, this was a feature in fallout 1

That's just the text on the screen for the Fallout 4 options, which express a general intent but not the actual things the character says; you're comparing shorthand options that lead to fully spoken dialogue to the fully written dialogue in other games. It would be more comparable if their recorded lines were there.

The problem ( or main problem at least ), isn't that they shortened the dialogue options.

Just look at the differences for a moment. In the FO3 and especially NV, you had not only more numerous options in many many situations, you could also see what those options where exactly. You then also had unique options around skills and other things, like stealth, science and gender that were only avaiable if you had a certain proficiency in the various skills.

In Fallout 4 you litterally never have more than 4 options to choose for, and those 4 options are very very often these 4 essentially - sarcastic, accept, no, elaborate.

I love Fallout 4 so far. But man, the dialogue system is such a monumental downgrade in terms of depth, it's really quite depressing.

I'll echo that the dialogue and roleplaying systems in the game are absolutely horrible.

It's like they didn't give a shit about the most important aspect to the Fallout series...

My expectations were pretty spot on after the e3 reveal, "Let's fuck some shit up" is basically this game. (with a splash of "Let's build some shit up")

I've only been able to play two hours since Tuesday. Finally sit down for a good long session, and the game won't recognize any input at all. No keyboard, mouse, or controller.

Great.

McGRIZZLE'S FISTS-ONLY ADVENTURES IN THE WASTELAND -- LOG 5
Previous Logs: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Long day today, so I'll keep it short. Got a lot of real good punchin' in today. Did a little cleanup after.

Even guys like me gotta take a rest sometime.

Til next time, keep on punchin'.

- McGrizzle

how do you move bodies? On X1, maybe it's PC only via console or mod?

What do you mean faction hostility? Ive done Semper Invicta (hell you can do that like 2 hours into the game, its just doing one of each of the other 2 people quests at the police station) and Old Guns. Actually I think Ive done the
Railroad
one also

Will I know if I find a location where I can create a settlement? I'm stocking up on objects to build with but don't know how easy settlement locations are to find.

Just got done exploring Fort Hagen, my first marked location (I went south along the border for a while after leaving the vault). Forgot how much I loved exploring old abandoned places...and then finding them not so abandoned. Had a protectron protect me for a while...then turn on me. Not sure why but it was nice while it lasted.

If you find a location that has a workbench, you can turn it into a settlement. Though sometimes it is required to do a quest for the place first. There are a few really close to sanctuary.

Edit: Sorry, Red Workshop. Not workbench.

Oh and of course the Occasional Charm Response which usually amounts to "C'mon think about it" or if at the beginning of a Quest "Eh, it's a bit risky for such low pay."

Haha, I love that. I don't think they bothered to record a single unique line for even the hardest generic charisma checks. Even with the reddest, hardest "even more money" checks the character really just says "no i want more money"

So fucking charismatic

I'm a bit late to playing, but my initial impressions are pretty solid so far. It'll take getting used to, but I'm enjoying the changes to the base mechanics. Shooting feels good, movement feels good, VATS feels....good, and I like the way the world is laid out and how looting is much more efficient.

Only thing I don't like so far is the dialogue. As others have said, it's just too simplified, especially coming from a run in FO3. It's also been giving me issues when it comes to the NPCs moving around and getting out of range of the system, which prompts me to have to go back up to them and interact with them again. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I wish them had gone with something closer to the old style trees while keeping the world moving around you.

how do i tell an escort to fucking wait for me to clear out the area?

this is actually the most annoying. they have like no health and charge head on and take shots from 5 angles.

You can join as many as you want but eventually you will have to commit to one.

That's unfortunate, though not entirely unforeseen. Though, I suppose the deciding factor in the end would really be whether you get to still keep your Minutemen settlements if you side with someone else.

So intimidation...am I just leaving experience points on the table by using this? Doesn't feel like I'm getting any and it seems like the effects just wear off after a while. Should I be shooting all these people in the back of the head upon success?

19 hours in, only completed 5 quests (I think only one or two main).

Wow, settlements are addicting, as well as just exploring everything very slowly and thoroughly.

I also just discovered how the multi layer armor system works.

So something happened in game that scared the shit out of me.

I was walking towards a side mission in my power armor and I came accross a site with a few cars so I go in exploring to see if I find anything useful. Mind you this is at night. I'm going threw the wreckage than all of a sudden I hear this not human sound beating on Dogmeat. Everytime it attack it made this hissing like sound and Dogmeat would cry out in pain every time. So I'm looking in circles and I can't see Dogmeat but I keep hearing him cry out in pain because he was being attacked. I'm starting to get frantic because it more than one thing attacking Dogmeat now and I can't see them. I turn the ran around this busted looking truck and finally found Dogmeat on the ground and it was those mongol dogs beating on dogmeat. I stimpack dogmeat and start attacking the four, Dogmeat came back with a fucking vengeance. He killed two of the four pretty easily after i even up the odds.

This games atmosphere at night is fucking awesome.

Oh yeah and at one point I literally yelled out loud stop hitting my fucking dog.

Indeed, the dialogue has been the most glaring issue for me so far (aside from the less-than-desirable character models) and that's kinda a problem.

So I'm trying to build a fence, nothing fancy, but because of the snapping feature half of the fence is hovering midair. Is there a way to prevent this, or is this just how it's going to be?

how it is.

Hopefully they patch in a function to fill the space below a fence with post till it gets to the ground.

How do you stimpack Dogmeat?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to continue with my original power armor plans now.

alright, so for "The Molecular Level" quest, after setting up the whole transmitter receiver thing, it asks me to talk to the Elder, but any time I talk to him he just says "I'll send for you if I need you."

help?

So I'm not really sure what I'm doing when I level up...

I'm level 10 and have been spending every upgrade to make each of the PERKS 10 - I haven't upgraded any particular skills aside from the categories themselves.

Is that the right way to play? Do I get a bump every time I increase the overall category by +1?

So my sneaky character decided to try power armor.

Like, why not wear this shit all the time? I have 54 fusion cores and merchants that stock them. There's no reason not to just go into combat like a freaking Space Marine.

Lol my companion tried to have his compulsory "i like you enough" talk in the middle of a crucial story moment. 3 conversations going off at once, this game is fucked lol.

Are there any hazmat/radiations suits to find? I'm coming into contact with a ton of heavy radiation areas. I could use something to help deter the effects.

I apparently picked up a magazine that taught me how to build patio furniture?

Didn't know you could new building techniques...

I also picked up a tattoo magazine? UNLOCKED a "new face" tattoo? How do I change those. Probably diamond city, right? Haven't touched diamond yet.
